Question about Bludgeon

"Battle armor secretes ordorous, mucus slime."

WTF?  Why even write that on there?

...dude... when was the last time you got into a fight?

The odour is psychologically disorienting, and psychology plays a big part of any fight - it's used for distraction, confusion, intimidation etc.

As for the mucous, Bludgeon's character is clearly inspired by the Samurai and Metallikato by the romantic ideals of Bushido (something which was further emphasised in the comics). Ever watched The Last Samurai? Remember that scene where Nathan Algren (Cruise) is watch the samurai sparring with each other in unarmed combat? They were using a form of grappling that was heavily employed by the Samurai known as Taijutsu.

...kinda hard to grapple somebody like this if their body is all slimey and slippery - also makes it easier for the defender to get out of any initial grabs/grapples.

Shut up. You don't know me well enough to comment like that.

Dude... I was having a go at the way you spelt "honour." It wasn't a swipe at your character. :P

Yeah, I don't think the idea works without some size shifting. The Japanese cartoon with Metalhawk had him becoming a normal sized human. It was actually half way cool.

I was gonna say - u gotta see masterforce to appreciate pretenders - then u immediately want metalhawk - then u see the price of a good one - and u get the others - lol - I have only one classic-  starscream - but I like them alot too - I have yet to get the pretender beasts - but I wanna check those out for sure - I like em - they do grow on u for sure

and you need to appreciate the value of learning how to spell "you" correctly. :P

I've seen Masterforce... I've seen and played with Metalhawk... meh... not terribly inspired to go buy the toy, particularly at the prices that he's going for. Yeah, he's a nice toy, but he's not that nice IMO. As far as Pretender robots go, I think Metalhawk is very well engineered - unlike most Pretenders, he actually has a well defined alt mode! I'd definitely get Metalhawk if he were reissued (and thus available at a reasonable price).

Having said that, I still think that Bumblebee is the best Pretender toy ever made. Neither his robot mode nor vehicular mode suffer as a result of him needing to squeeze inside his Pretender shell.

it's an abbreviation - I do it alot on forums - it is pretty accepted even at work place in emails - that comment was just sad...

I want the toy cause I like the character..i agree on the alt mode - esp for a pretender

I really look forward to getting bumblebee - I have heard great things about him.  I like my starscream alot too....I really wanna check out grimlock too - anyone got him?

bludgeon would whip bumblebee's ass. even if he's not as articulated......but thunderwing would smoke everyone.(always gotta throw thunderwing some props)

i think bludgeon could hold his own, if he couldnt then why did he lead the decepticons for a short while(a very short stint). i dont think he deserves the price tag he's got right now but he is rare as hell mosc american. I think he was a cool character in the comics.

...dude...

....dude....

...I was talking about the toy.  (holy senility, Batman!)

As far as the toy is concerned, Bludgeon is pretty ordinary. By Pretender standards, Bludgeon is good insofar as the fact that his tank mode looks quite realistic and is immediately recognisable as a tank. Recognisable alt modes is a common weakness amongst the Pretenders. Waverider, Splashdown, Groundbreaker... they all transform into "WTF?" style vehicles. Their robot modes also tend to suffer from Mary-Kate-esque Annorexia because of how they have to squeeze into their Pretender shells.

Although Bludgeon's robot mode isn't bulemic, it is rather ordinary.

Bumblebee on the other hand has a fantastic vehicle mode and robot mode. His vehicle mode is immediately recognisable as a VW Beetle - one that's even better proportioned than the original Bumblebee's (which was super deformed to the style of Takara's Choro-Q line) as well as Goldbug. His robot mode is also very well done, giving us our first comic/show-like Bumblebee.

Maybe at your workplace... certainly not mine. Anyway, since this point bears no relevance to Transformers, let's just move on...

I really look forward to getting bumblebee - I have heard great things about him.  I like my starscream alot too....I really wanna check out grimlock too - anyone got him?

I have all the Classic Pretenders (url=http://photobucket.com/albums/y227/goktimusprime/Transformers%20Collection/?action=view&current=collection04.jpg]photo[/url]) and Bumblebee is by far the best.

The others all suffer the typical symptoms of Pretender TFs - constrictions of needing to compact themselves into their shells. Starscream is the second best of the lot - with a pretty accurate robot and jet mode, albeit far more simplistic. Jazz comes next... his car mode is okay, but his robot mode kinda sucks. Grimlock is by far the worse. His alt mode screams Pokémon (which sucks even more considering that this toy predates Pokémon, so we weren't even able to make that comparison back then!) and his robot mode... bleeecchh.

But I've always loved the fact that Simon Furman could take these otherwise extremely mediocre toys and turn them into very cool and classic characters! Let's face it, as a toy, Thunderwing sucks. As a character, he is legend.

I believe it was the lucky charms bit that annoyed me.

i hate stereotypes like that. i especially hate the one of English people being ugly as hell, with bad teeth, SE accents and drinking tea all the bloody time.especially since i fit into none of those catagories

c717905: in that case, you may also want to check out my Cybertronian Martial Arts Compendium -- everything on that site comes from official canon (unless otherwise stated), and it also has pics of a friend and I demonstrating some of these arts! :D

Ok, that looks like it took some serious effort to make.

I didn't realize that there were all these martial arts in TFs. I don't read the comics and they never named anything in the cartoons, so this is all new to me. You guys have obviously done some research. I love how you included the pics for illustration btw, I am impressed.

Now the real question, do either of you guys practice any martial arts?
