This girl at the checkout counter at my local TRU told me that she thought it was "cute" that I collect Transformers.

I think she is pretty cute herself so next time I go in there I might have to convert to mac mode.

i've been buying the cybertron and a lot of the optimus primes and now i am going to be on disability my wife is taking my credit card.  since i wont be leaving the house for two to three months she thinks its a good idea.  im just trying to memorize the number.

also in our family room there are two shelves on the wall that are filled with cybertron figures.  my wife was a little apprehensive but she loves transformers too so she doesnt care

Me and my gf have been looking for a house and she has picked one out and said she picked it cuz it had everything i wanted plus an extra room for my goodies!

I'm glad there are female TF fans, though I'm curious how female fans get into something like this. I mean, it's not usually something your parents would hand to their young daughters for their toybox full of dolls/whatever unless they're tomboys or something and play with boys' toys anyway... did you just get into this hobby, or is it a childhood thing?

I wish my fiancé was into TFs. She's into everything else I am, which is great, so I'm not gonna ask for too much from her. She does think it's cute though ;)

Being a person who has several female Transfan friends, and having once had one for a gf, I can tell you that it is not due to any tomboyishness (well, maybe in one girl's case, but I digress). It's usually because some people just don't want to conform to stereotypes that society tries to impose on them. The problem with girls toys is that there are few positive strong role models. Typical toys like Barbie and Bratz are primarily about, "let's be beautiful and emotionally superficial!" (although the recent Barbie cartoon is trying to change this). One thing that makes Sailormoon so popular is that it places girls as the main action protagonists - as the main heroes (heroines).

But for girls who didn't want to spend their childhood accessorising dolls and wondering why they can't be as thin or busty as Barbie, then it's little wonder that they will turn to alternative pursuits, such as boys toys.

But I find that female fans are generally less compulsive on the toy collecting side of the fandom. They tend to be more into the mythos. The majority of female fans I know have very modest collections. Over a hundred TFs is quite large for a female fan's collection. But this does NOT devalue them as dedicated fans nonetheless.

For example, Transfandom's largest Fanfic hub, The Lexicon was created and is maintained by an Australian female fan (Charl).

Doing something because they don't want to conform with everything else is a stupid reason to do something, IMO. Ppl should do it because they want to.

And Barbie/Bratz are hideous...

Barbie ain't busty :tflaugh
