I saw it last night, yea soundwave still has that growly voice goin on, would it have killed them to jus do his voice like it should be, its his voice that made him a fan favourite in the 1st place!

Also SPOILER SPOILER

Why didnt anyone acknowledge Ironhides death!? Seriously even Jazz got a "ohh ... Jazz" in the 1st film, but Optimus doesnt speak a word for the death of one of his oldest friends?! Not even a "this is for Ironhide!" moment when he fights sentinal!

i think most likely because they were fighting an invading force of decepticons.. i don't remember seeing lennox standing around talking about the men he'd lost. they probably would've said something if there were more of an epilogue. i don't quite mind it. everything happened so fast that there wasn't really a moment to reflect on his death. but i love the way he died. man it was brutal.

WTHeck is up with that ending? Looked like Bay wanted to screw whatever director comes in behind him that tried to continue the story arc.

Bay ended the story arc, so he didn't screw any director who does the next Trilogy

But it was for Ironhide. And Jazz. And Wheeljack. And Jetfire. And any innocent to be crushed under the heel of Decepticon tyranny. People need to remember that when they question any perceived brutality on Optimus' part. He was avenging millions of years worth of wrongs.

That's only for the unimaginative.

Intentionally or not, Mike Bay actually left the door wide open with a ton of new possibilities. For instance, based on the nature of the Decepticons expulsion from Earth (essentially, via molecular and spatial displacement), a whole new WORLD (literally) is open. And you've got Prime's turning on their own factions.

There is almost nothing you couldn't do with the Bayverse as now constituted. The only thing I might've preferred would have been if the Decepticons had actually WON.

Dino and Que are such stoopid names for Transformers IMO. :( I have Speed Star Trans-Scan Mirage, and thankfully he is called Mirage and not Dino. I'm just gonna call them Mirage and Wheeljack, just like I call TF1 Brawl "Brawl" and not 'Devastator' as the film called him.

Someone may come along and figure out how to incorporate a better and more simple story that works for Transformers movies, but they won't be able to improve much on the visual experience of what Bay did. Nobody could have done that better. As well as Bay is all that could be hoped for. Those old Batman movies were oozing cheese from every orifice from the very start. The only thing they provided was a what not to do method for future Batman movies.

Future Transformers movies will build on what Bay created. It will take his methods and hopefully find ways to incorporate newer technologies to improve upon them. These Transformers movies will never be a forgotten about chapter.

Story > visual effects.

Hands up anyone who prefers the Original Star Wars Trilogy over the Prequel Trilogy? <raises.hand>

I'm calling him mirage. I don't care. :redface

Same. I don't know anyone who calls the green tank Decepticon from the first movie "Devastator" even though the movie calls him Devastator. Everyone I know calls him "Brawl," as the toy is called. Hasbro has already released a Dino toy called "Mirage" (thank Primus), and hopefully this will mean that they'll call Que "Wheeljack" too.

But putting our personal preferences aside, let's look at facts:

FACT: The green tank Decepticon from TF1 is called Devastator in the movie.

FACT: The toy of this character is called Brawl. Therefore, we can call our toy "Brawl" because that's what Hasbro called it!

FACT: The red Ferrari Autobot in DOTM is called Dino in the movie.

FACT: The toy of this character is called Mirage. Therefore, we should be calling him "Mirage" because that's what Hasbro calls it. I mean, you can call him Dino or Bobhammed or Cheryl, but officially the toy's name will be Mirage. :)

One of the Mirage/Dino toys already shown in package said Mirage and I'm sure Wheeljack will be the same when his toy comes out.

+1

Here's a photo which shows my Speed Star Trans Scan Mirage - as you can see, the toy is called "Mirage." Yay. :)

Don't know who's stupid idea it was to use Dino and Que, maybe Nelson's LOL

I dunno, but this isn't the first time Transformers have been given different names in the movie compared to the toys.

e.g.

Devastator (tank) -> Brawl

Wheelbot -> Demolishor

Skipjack/Rampage -> Rampage

Doctor -> Scalpel

Dino -> Mirage

Que -> Wheeljack? (I hope)

As Taaron said, they DID keep his voice the same! Frank Welker voices Soundwave in ROTF and DOTM in the same way he voiced Soundwave in the G1 cartoon. The difference is that in the G1 cartoon Sunbow went and electronically modified his voice to make it sounds more mechanical - something which Welker never liked. ROTF and DOTM's Soundwave voice is pure Welker, the way he had always intended for Soundwave to sound like. So in fact, movie-Soundwave's voice is more accurate to what Soundwave should have sounded like than G1 Soundwave!

If you watch the G1 season 1 episode "Roll For It", look at the scene where Ravage captures Christopher "Chip" Chase... when Ravage returns to Soundwave, Soundwave says "Excellent, Ravage." At that moment, they forgot to electronically modify Welker's voice, so we can hear Welker's actual unmodified Soundwave voice - which sounds just like he does in Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon! While we're quick to criticise the Bay movies for making undesirable decisions like changing names of characters like Mirage and Wheeljack to Dino and Que, we should also give credit where credit's due -- so kudos to them for actually giving Soundwave a pure Soundwave voice! :)

I agree. Some people complained that Bay killed off a lot of staple G1 characters. What? He killed off some Gee-Wun characters, but G1 is so much more than G1. Megatron's gone - good. Replace him with someone else. There are plenty of other Decepticon leaders from G1 that we can draw from, such as:

+ Galvatron - he doesn't have to be the same character as Megatron. The original G1 toy bio describes him as a separate character, and the IDW comics currently portray him as a separate character too.

+ Ratbat

+ Scorponok (although they should call him Zarak to avoid confusion with the Scorponok that already exists in the TF movieverse)

+ Bludgeon (who already exists in the movieverse - and wasn't killed (we only saw him defeated - it's very possible that he still functions))

+ Thunderwing

+ Clench (I wonder if they could call the character Colossus in the film, but name the toy "Clench" or vice versa? ;) That would be one name misalignment that would make sense :))

...and that's just from Anglophone G1 continuity. There's even more if we look at G2 (e.g. Jhiaxus, Liege Maximo etc.) or Japanese G1 (e.g. Overlord, Deathsaurus etc.)

I actually would prefer if they use the names Dino and Que for the toys when they come out. Neither character seemed like Mirage or Wheeljack. Que made gadgets like Wheeljack did, but Wheeljack was more a grease monkey while Que is more of an absent minded professor.

Which makes him like a blend between Wheeljack and Perceptor. But movie Optimus Prime's character is drastically different from G1 Optimus Prime's -- if anything, movie Optimus Prime's persona is a LOT more like Dai Atlas... so do you think movie Optimus Prime should have been called Dai Atlas instead of Optimus Prime? And movieverse Shockwave is NOTHING like his G1 namesake (he is in the comic adaptation, but not in the film).

And then in future movies they could bring in a Mirage and Wheeljack that are more true to their G1 counterparts...

The movieverse is a different continuity, so the characters don't have to be the same as their namesakes -- but Dino and Que are just poor names for Transformers IMO. Transformer names usually sound like superhero names - because as we all know, the original G1 mythos was born from Marvel Comics. Dino sounds like the name of Fred Flintstone's pet dinosaur, and Que sounds like the 10 point tile in Scrabble. :P

Not a Scrabble player, eh?

Apparently the name "Que" is meant to be a reference to James Bond and "Dino" is a reference to Ferrari. That makes them even lamer IMHO.
