Why do people hate the Transformer movie by Michael Bay

Recommended Posts

I watch a lot of movies. A LOT of movies. I've watched everything from Apocalypse Now to Howard's End to Evil Dead II, and I'll be the first to admit I can be a bit of a film snob at times, but I can also appreciate good camp and low-budget awesomeness.

Quite simply, Revenge of the Fallen is neither a big budget epic, nor a campy Diamond in the Rough; it's just not a very good movie.

I can provide evidence if you really want me to. LOT'S of evidence. I could probably write an entire college thesis on how and why ROTF is "not a very good" movie; but I'd rather not throw up some massive wall o' text right now. Granted I never expected M. Bay's Transformers franchise to have the depth and Craft of something like Blade Runner, but is it such a sin to want them to at least TRY for that sort of thing?

TF 1 and TF 2 are entertaining. Even Beast Machines held some entertaining value, just not that much. I never expected the movies to have any depth at all but they were entertaining and a huge boost to the toyline.

Its because in order to be a TF fan, you have to hate the product, but 10 years later you will love it. Remember Beast Wars/Machines?

Many fans have always liked Beast Wars. No one with a brain likes Beast Machines.

Beast Wars was as revolutionary in both terms of show and toy design as it was just plain awesome. Beast Machines... less so. It had a strange story and at least half the toyline wasnt very good. Alot of people think it was the worst show but I say nay, that lies with Energon or Cybertron.

Plus Jetstorm's character was pure win. Loved him everytime he was on screen.

Never seen Beast Machines, but I am very willing to bet it was twice the show Energon was. Energon is just... painful to watch.

Same here, my taste in movies ranges from serious drama to what is often considered crap, and I'm a MST3K fan as well, so I know bad movies. But nothing prepared me for just how bad Revenge of the Fallen really was.

I recall sitting in the theater thinking as the credits rolled thinking: "WHAT THE HECK JUST HAPPENED?? Did what I think just happened happen??"

I'm sad to say I went back on a matinée 4 days later just to see if I'd seen what I thought I'd seen and THAT was when I really realized how much I disliked it... I'm sure my friends got tired of hearing me talk about it for the hour afterward when we were at lunch... ^.^;

It makes me extra sad after I spent 2 years defending M. Bay and the questionable movie decisions in the '07 film to my skeptic friends...

sorry, couldnt resist.

It's one of those things that you just kind of have to learn to accept within any fandom. There is always going to be parts of the fiction/franchise that your going to like/love and others are going to dislike/hate. With Transformers there is some mathematical equation that for every part you love, there seems to be about two others that just hate it to the point of thinking your an idiot for liking it.

It can be frustrating, but hey, just try to shrug it off. I happen to like the movies too (not saying their perfect, but I do enjoy myself with them) and really enjoy the toys. It can be a little discerning to hear somebody refer to the stuff I like as "total garbage", or to look forward to something just to hear somebody else trash it. Or hey, my favorite TF of all time, even have some emotional attachment to it, is regularly downed on. There has even been times where I've liked something and somebody else has insulted my intelligence for it. Really, over a difference of opinions of a toy meant for children or the cartoon meant to sell it to children. Makes a lot of sense huh :roll

But you know what? Like I said, just try to shrug it off. Because in the end, in the very end, when it comes to how you like to enjoy Transformers (or any other similar hobby), it's up to nobody else but you how to enjoy it. As long as nobody is getting hurt, nobody else or their opinion matters when it comes to how you enjoy Transformers. It's not up to anyone else but you, and it's going to bother them a whole lot more than it will ever bother you.

Just don't go breaking any laws or hurting anybody in your enjoyment. Then you might wanna reconsider how your enjoying it :)

Another problem with the movies is the hypocrisy behind how they were conceived. The director and producers think G1 is stupid, but then they go ahead and make movies that are as bad, and even worse than, the old cartoon.

Here, this should explain everything.
