Which line of Transformers do you collect and why?

Recommended Posts

Just curious as to which line of Transformers is best represented in your collection and why?

Me, I purely collect G1 Transformers or reissue G1 Transformers. I collect this line because it is all about nostalgia for me. Yes, I put nostalgia over poseability and design from the newer lines of Transformers. As a kid who grew up in the Eighties, Transformers have always been my favorite line over all the other toy lines like Gi Joe, Thundercats, Voltron, etc. Right now, I am just purchasing the figures I had or wanted as a kid like Mirage, Huffer, Bruticus, Skywarp/Thundercracker, Prime, etc.

So which line of Transformers be represents your collection?

Ahhh! I am sure this topic has been covered before, but it's always a good one.

I got back in to TFormers with Binaltech... the idea of transformers modeled after licensed cars AND being primarily die-cast metal, I was sold! After that, I dabbled a little in all the different lines, but outside of a few specific molds, I just didn't care for much until the classics/henkei line.

I'm still going strong with G1 and all the reissues (Commemorative/Encore/Ehobby), the Classics/Henkei (although I've pretty much sold all the US editions in favor of the Japanese ones), and of course the Binaltech (sold all my Alternators though). I just started collecting Masterpiece (Megatron, Skywarp, MP-4 Convoy w/trailer so far), and I am considering starting up with Animated (possibly Japanese line). I had every transformer from the first Bay movie, all still sealed, but I just sold that collection, still have about 40 loose Bayformers to sell though.

SO, my list:

1. - G1 + reissues (Encore, Commemorative, Ehobby, etc)

2. - Binaltech (Japanese only)

3. - Henkei/Classics (mostly just Japanese)

4. - Masterpiece

5. - Animated (possibly)

Thats my list!

I mostly, so far, have collected Animated - the line is reminiscent of the G1 stuff I enjoyed as a kid, but nicely updated (in my opinion). And the cartoon was kind of fun too. I'm starting to see bits and bobs in the Universe and Classics line that I like, so I think that's next.

edit: I'd buy Masterpiece too if I could afford them. Though I've seen Skywarp's that I could almost afford... almost...

Oh yeah, I do collect Masterpiece Transformers too. Although I only have two of them. Skywarp and Grimlock. They are completely awesome even if they are super expensive. I would like to get an Optimus Prime and Megatron one of these days (when I start working again). Other than those two, I really have no desires for the others that are currently out.

It's funny, because Skywarp is probably the coolest looking Masterpiece Jet yet he goes for so little on Ebay compared to all three Jet brothers. I did own Hasbro's Starscream for awhile, but I ended up selling him because I just wasn't feeling the awesomeness with him like I did with Skywarp and his cool black paint job. Yeah, get a Skywarp when you can. He's definitely worth the money. Purple and Black is an awesome combination.

I collect most retail figures, and don't care about what line it's from.

For a while I was chasing down the Takara exclusives, but I just kinda stopped after a while. It was becoming just to much for to much.

I tend to buy at least one of each mold from Scout(Minicons) through Leader. I haven't bought and kept a Supreme since Cybertron

FABs, Legends, Battle Bumpers, RPMs, those are for other people on average.

Thats just how I collect. I've never really seen it as "G1" or "Movie" even though there are obvious changes in the figures, they're all just Transformers to me :mwahaha

I like getting one of each mold to try, then judge the repaints acordingly. It was only recently that I started trading off some figures I wasn't really fond of because my shelves reached capacity and then some.

Even still, I hate seeing a figure go, and bought most back :P

I agree, though it's almost a draw with Thundercracker. Skywarp is my favourite paintjob for the animated seekers too.

I buy from all lines except Beast Machines. That is absolutely the worst line ever, even worse then Armada. I do have some figures from the Armada line even though I hate it. But BM will never be bought.

My top 5 lines though are

1) Classic, Universe, Generations (It's all the same line as far as I am concerned)

2) Cybertron

3) MovieVerse

4) Generation 1 thru Operation Combination. (Its all G1)

5) Binaltech

Classic/Henkei/Universe. Also some Unicron Trilogy.

#1 right now is Animated---enjoy the posability and the JLU styling, but I keep them separate from. . .

#2 Classics/Universe/Generations---these are my G1 reboot. If I could get a bot that I could fit into that line to represent every G1 character, I would be a happy camper

Those two battle it out for #1---I have most of the Cybertron stuff, but will probably phase it into my Classics stuff over time, renaming bots for the above reason

I think I'm going to try to get all of the reissue stuff over time, but it's not a huge priority

Of the movie line I only collect legends now except for the larger guys who I can repurpose as Classics cast members or place holders.

I buy mostly anything, if it's cool, or based on recommendations, though I have price limits. Though, mostly, I like the Classics/ Universe lines.
