I think IDW's reboot is the best version of the G1 story yet.

Ditto.. :awsum

Anyway..

#1 I only watched 2 episodes of Armada, Metamorphosis & Awakening, and felt like have had enough of it.

#2 Only watched 1 episode of RID, Mirage's Betrayal. Cheesy as faxk.

#3 Despite my dislikes on Unicron Trilogy & RID, I still bought Armada Meg & RID Meg. Hey, they're Megatron's incarnates after all! :awsum But never liked how people tease me, "I thought you said you hated that series?" :redface

#4 Thinks... Tidal Wave = G1 Reflector in reverse. Three alt modes > One bot. And ... three robots > One alt mode.

#5 Hopes for future installments to change the Seekers trio into Quadruplets, whether the fourth is Ramjet or Sunstorm, heck, I dun care.

#6 Hasbro/TakTom should really do the IDW version of G1 Megatron! IMMEDIATELY!! :argh

#7 Thinks G1 Predacons/Predaking is the most awesome (alongside Devastator & Bruticus), yet the most underrated and less-memorable gestalt by most fans.. :(

#8 Universe Classics should do less repaint from past lines, and elaborate with COMBINERS!! C'mon, ya got Silverbolt & Onslaught.. :redface

#9 Always thinks Decepticon warship, the Nemesis, should transform into a gigantic sentient robot. C'mon, the Ark's done it. :argh

#10 Animated Optimus Prime is probably the FIRST Optimus that I really dig into. He got full face, not just silly mask that renders him emotionless and all-ohsum-yet-lacks-of-character-development. Face FTW.

#11 Vowed only to collect the valiant Decepticons ....................................... with Animated Dlx Cyb. Prime is an exception :redface But soon gonna repaint him as Deceptiprime. :07evil

#12 Hopes FIRRIB duo appears on Animated. Yes. FIRRIB. :P :awsum

My point pretty much boils down to this; :tldr

:hammer Dude, I told you that I did NOT want to start a subs vs dubs debate!! *facepalm*

If you really want to discuss that, go make a thread for it in the non-TF section.

It's no where near as good as Marvel G1 IMO. I find that their issues aren't as "meaty" (although not as "lean" as DW). If you read them as collected trade paperbacks they're probably okay, but when you're collecting the issue month by month I find that each individual issue often just doesn't offer all that much punch for your buck. You kinda read an issue and think, "Oh... okay." Gradually things build up and when you see the overall picture you're kinda like, "oh yeah that's cool" but that's usually by time you've finished collecting that particularly mini-series (e.g.: Devastation). I know that "gradual plot seeding" is something that is very typical of Furman's writing... after all I've been exposed to it since 1985. But I find that he's just not packing in as much stuff into each issue like he used to back in the old Marvel days. *shrug*

Don't get me wrong, I really do love IDW's G1 reboot. It's a lot better than Dreamwave's. I guess I'd rate it as my 2nd favourite version of G1 aside from Marvel. :)

My favourite Armada/Micron Legend story would have to be the comics by Dreamwave.

In context of a show being aimed at kids I think that CR/RiD works really well. While I agree that there's little in the show that attempts to engage an adult audience, it doesn't really talk down to its audience either (Car Robot moreso than RiD). Overall it's pitched pretty well at its target audience.

But never liked how people tease me, "I thought you said you hated that series?"

You can like a toyline without liking its show or comics - and vice versa. :) I'd say that most adult fans are more fans of the toys over the show or comics.

#4 Thinks... Tidal Wave = G1 Reflector in reverse. Three alt modes > One bot. And ... three robots > One alt mode.

...although we'd already seen it in Magmatron during Beast Wars/Machines. :P Also I see it more as an expansion of the Duocons and Combiner (not gestalt) concept.

#6 Hasbro/TakTom should really do the IDW version of G1 Megatron! IMMEDIATELY!!

Cos the demand for such a toy is totally there. (/sarcasm) It could work as a Titanium Series... that'd be it really or some kind of statue. That'd be it.

I see your Predaking and I raise you a Lio Kaiser. :)

where's the debate? WPP and TV-Nihon subs rule dubs hands down.

I find The Low Road from BW to be a very fun episode.

I like the BW Dinobot toy....

....and thought TT ruined it by giving him a mouth for their 10th Ann. line (even if it was show accurate).

IDW Sentinel Prime is the best Autobot leader ever, IMO.

I think the name "Dynobots" is kind of neat.

DREAMWAVE!!!!!! :argh

Ahem, sorry.

Anyway, I never really knew about the G1/G2 comics until I joined the online fan community, so I never properly read the Marvel version of G1. From what I can tell, however, it's major drawback for me is that it seems a little "rough," like it doesn't know what to do with itself. Which isn't a knock against the story considering it was the first go at TF fiction. The writers were given this brand-new concept, with so many possibilities. The result seems kind of rough, and all over the place.

That's just my impression from what I know about it, however. Like I said, I never really had an opportunity to have a go at it.

What I like about IDW's take is that it flushes out the TF world. Which is in direct contrast to what I feel was the Marvel story's biggest weakness. Marvel had to build the TF universe from scratch. IDW has 20+ years of established canon to work with, which in turn leads to more organized, polished, and flushed out TF universe.

Like the concept of the Prime. Or the idea that the Autobots and Decepticons aren't two races of robots, but factions, with the Autobots being the Cybertronian security service and the Decepticons being a rebel insurgency (an idea Animated would barrow).

I also find IDW's choice to make Cybertron a dead world a good one. It adds tragic element to the war. The Autobots, who serve as Cybertron's security service are fighting to protect the institutions of a long dead world. The Decepticons are fighting to take over and revolutionize that same dead world. Their home world is destroyed, but they continue to fight because there's no real alternative.

Anyway, back on topic....

Classics Voyager Optimus Prime/Henkei! Convoy is probably my all time favourite OP figure.

IDW Sentinel Prime is the best Autobot leader ever, IMO.

Why? IMO he was nothing more than just a power-munchkin. He never did anything that came across as being particularly note-worthy... and the fact that even with his uber god armour Megatron was still able to tear him apart with his bare hands doesn't help him much either. :P

There are plenty of much better Autobot leaders above Sentinel Prime - IMO Sentinel Prime is a pretty ordinary leader. I think the best Autobot supreme leaders are:

+ Optimus Prime (nuff sed)

+ Grimlock (Pretender/Action Master)

+ Star Sabre

+ Ginrai

+ Fortress Maximus (Marvel)

+ Dai Atlas

I think the name "Dynobots" is kind of neat.

I agree. :)

Buh?! I'm still not entirely sure what you're perceiving as the main weakness of Marvel G1 here. :/

Marvel had to build the TF universe from scratch. IDW has 20+ years of established canon to work with, which in turn leads to more organized, polished, and flushed out TF universe.

If anything that gives me more respect for Marvel G1. It's a lot easier for IDW to tell this story which is a reboot of something which has existed for over 20 years. There's a rich history to draw from. With G1 there was nothing, they were making history rather than building from it. That's not to say that I don't appreciate what IDW does in terms of building from G1, but it's a different form of accomplishment. It's just a lot different when you're the first to do something - like being pioneers. :)

Of course, the irony here is that we're both talking about Simon Furman. :P :P

Like the concept of the Prime.

That came from G1 Marvel, which is where Prime Nova (called Nova Prime in IDW) and Sentinel Prime came from. Although IDW's made it more consistent.

Or the idea that the Autobots and Decepticons aren't two races of robots, but factions, with the Autobots being the Cybertronian security service and the Decepticons being a rebel insurgency (an idea Animated would barrow).

Marvel G1 portrayed the Transformers as being divided by faction rather than by races (although a few TFs like Bludgeon and Grimlock theorised that Primus had inadvertantly created separate races, but that was never definitively proven). Marvel G1 showed a lot of factionless neutral Transformers, such as Spanner who was enslaved by Decepticons and forced to help them build their Space Bridge. Maccadam's Oil House was located in a demilitarised neutral territory. The Autobots were portrayed as being a governing body, in the form of a Greek-like Republic with Cybertron itself being divided into Greek-style city-states such as Iacon etc. The Decepticons were a faction which rose out of the woodwork and took the Autobot Republic by surprise. It wasn't until Optimus Prime became Autobot leader that the Autobots became a full proper military faction - Sentinel Prime was under the command of the Autobot Council of Elders, whereas Optimus Prime was not (Optimus had supreme executive command). It proved to be the right choice for the Autobots. :) :sparta

No, the IDW-version of his Walther P38 mode. Kick ass.

My point is more to the Japanese typical anime-ish cheesiness with all those sweat, tear and etc expressions. :fail

Ah, pardon me for skipping the Magmatron, I'm more focused with in-show characters rather than comics-only when pointed out Tidal Wave & Reflector.

You beat me. Should have put more emphasizes on the bold lined stuffs there.. :redface :redface

optimusprime_mouthes.jpg

That laughing Prime in the top left always freaked me out, especially when he smacked Megatron's sweet-ass finned car with that telephone pole.
