It's probably a combination of a couple of things.

 

First point bad character and bad figure design with the exposed head and all.

 

Second from the looks of things it was over produced and over shipped, he has been in every Mega assortment thus far, WHY?

 

The Mega size figures are suffering from the same thing that killed the last He-Man line. When you went to the store most of the time the only two figures were He-man and Skeletor, and what do we see when we go to the store to buy a new Transformer, shelves and shelves of Ironhides. I really don't think it's that the figure didn't sell that well, but more due to the fact that they are so damn many. What are people going to do make an army of the most annoying character on the show?

 

So PLEASE Hasbro if you happen to read this we don't need anymore Energon Ironhide figures.

if i get an mega i will get magnus or tidalwave, both armada repaints but from what i've heard ironhid is a waste of time

I triple that motion - Carlos may not have been the most annoying kid from Armada, but he now definitely has the most annoying voice, because at least the fat kid from Armada isn't on the new series. Carlos and Ironhide are both around to torment us further. Make it stop! MAKE IT STOP!!

 

And yeah, too many of a crappy figure is always death to sales as well. As I recall, Armada Red alert was the same way though - way too many, not highly regarded (by some), and still showing up on clearance when Energon was coming out. 2nd-tier SUV characters just have it rough in this new TF continuity.

All they ever have at Target are the omnicons (wave 1) and like 25 Ironhides. Maybe if he was not one of the ugliest transformers ever they would have sold and wave 2 would be here. :tfmad

I took the chance and bought Ironhide, and I was not horribly impressed with him. Both modes lack that certain "something". At least the colors on the new figure are better, but hopefully we will be seeing less of him and more of the truly kick ass figures like Slugslinger and the combiners.

 

Perhaps if Ironhide had been a deluxe and not so (as someone mentioned previously) "Chibified" he would have looked cool. the massive legs kill me in robot mode. I can't stand them. And then in addition to the head being visible in vehicle mode, his head is completely obscured in robot mode unless you look at him head on. I look at him and then I look at Landmine and the decision was perfectly clear: Ironhide goes off the display shelf and into storage.

If you Transform his legs to how he'd be when "powerlinx'd", he looks a little bit better.
