TFans' Official 'Transformers Movie' Thread

Recommended Posts

I grew up from the 80's myself, but I have to say that the old is cheesy, and in the case of megatron, utter rubbish. Peater was good as optimus yes, so that would be passable in the new movie. But not the original megatron. He has a crappy old-man-ish typical 80's badguy rubbishness.

You're by no means the first person to say that, not by a long shot.

Personally, I hope that, as with Prime, they cast the best person for the role, and I don't think that's anyone we've heard as Megatron yet.

really? another one of these threads?

really? another one of these threads?

try to post a constructive answer instead of some silly comment.

i guess you havent seen the flametastic threads about the movie yet. well if your expecting anything constructive to amount of this thread, then sir you are the one who is silly.

As one of the loudest voices for "change is good" I am a child of the 80s and am so :clap :bounce :boogie about Peter Cullen being cast I can hardly stand it.

It happens because Transformers caters to the fan community. When it does not involve direct contact (with the likes of Don Murphy or Aaron Archer) it deals with spying. It is no large surprise that (for example) some great kitbashes somehow manage to be made into actual toys.

This all started because Don Murphy himself entered into the Transformers community. Oh the job he has, dealing with all the bickering fans, it is not a job I would like. I just hope that he doesn't take it personally when his product is finished and people still don't like it.

Of all the series fandoms, Transformers has not only the most tightly knit fans, but also the greatest diversity. Instead of appreciating all that Transformers has been over the years, people tend to take sides and cause wars over such things as the infamous "TRUKK vs MONKEY" debacle when TF fans of Beast Wars clashed with the older G1 fans. It was probably at this point that the first major divide occured. We have a bit to go before we see if AEC gets their own whiney group of fans, but I am pretty sure that the Movie will bring in some non-traditional fans, that will probably take a stance that is not G1 nor Beast Saga.

the movie's already caused a rift in the fandom. i'll read one of these threads every once in a while, but otherwise i'm staying the hell away from them. it's pretty Powerglideing pathetic that everytime somebody says they don't like "x" design from the movie, or expresses concerns that the movie doesn't feel like transformers to them, everybody jumps down their throat and starts throwing around derogatory terms and comments. i'm not gonna point the finger at any single person, but it's pretty damn juvenile.

It's the whole "change is good" mentality.

It's not good, it's not bad, it's change and can wind up being either.

But for some it seems that's no longer the case, there's no distinction, all change is good.

So it doesn't matter which change, how many or your reasons, you're against change; change is good and you don't want good things to happen.

I especially like that, after years of seeing geewunners complain and hearing others point out that A/E/C is not G1, has nothing to do with G1, is change, something new, we're getting many of those same people telling us that actually they were just G1, and that geewunners have dictated these lines long enough.

Not just here but all across the fandom.

And in a few years, when Hasbro try out another tradically different line, they'll say the same about this.

In fact, some already are, citing the use of names as it being just another G1 slave.

I'd guess that the advantage to having the original voice actors would be to connect to the older fanbase who are 25+. They are likely to make up the majority of the ticket buying public as they have kids and stuff. That doubles, triples, or even quadruples the tickets he buying. Multiply that by a factor of original fans and you get, like, a whole bunch. Anywho, as a 28 year old who will be attending this film with my kids, I'd prefer to hear Cullen as Prime but I'm not opposed to a new voice for Megatron. It's doubtful he'll be given many lines anyway as this likely won't have any "Decepticon Lair" scenes.

Why is the tf movie guy bending over to these g1 people? This is regarding he voicing.

They need to use garry chalk and co. They completly wipe the floor with peater and co...

The newer megatron fron beast wars onwords IS megatron. He has been the best so far. Also garry chalk has a more powerfull voice, and comes accross more better than peater...

I just hope they use the new megatron in the movie.... it will be doomed if they use the old one :/

I had to voice my opinion over this, as I'm sick of seeing all of the peater cullen hype all over the place. Yes he was good in the original, but thats were that ends.

*preps to be flamed by g1 fan boys*

I think they should have taken it a step further and used unknown actors altogether for the voices. For that matter, they could have avoided all this controversy by telling a new TF story with new characters. I'm sick of all these people crying about how Bay is making something new. No he's not. He's just making another incarnation of the G1 series all over again.
