MP-SS and a word to the wise

Well as far as I can tell my Starscream doesn't have any stress marks, but I'd need to put him in jet mode to see 100%.

Aw Blot. Is there any way to fix this before it becomes a problem? I am starting to see the white stress fractures.

Perhaps if you've got a steady hand and a Dremel tool, you could probably sand down the black blocks that attach the wings to the fuselage.

Other than that...you could let it break, then once the black block is exposed, sand down all the friction bearing points, then glue the whole thing back together carefully. If there's nothing preventing the piece from moving smoothly, that glue repair should hold indefinitely.

Until then, just be careful with it.

I'm less than amused, but I'm willing to look at the positives in this situation.

Now, I'm concerned about the Masterpiece Megatron I have coming sometime this week or next (slow shipper...ridiculous) and I'll bet I'm gonna have to modify a bunch of joints and plugs on him as well. =\

That's...very unfortunate. I don't think I'll buy one.

the us release of MP starscream is of very bad quality platic i bought 2 and when i took the twist ties off his his main wings both broke off. i had the same problem when i bought classics hotrod and deluxe movie bumblebee. even a couple of my alternators broke right out of the box. hasbro needs to stop rushing there transformers like the repaints of alternators rollbar silverstreak and deadend. im a die hard transformers collecter but come repainting alternators deadend into sunstreaker made no sence they both have the same head mold. hasbro needs to start takeing feed back from the real trans fans and take there time in makeing the quality of transformers better.

Listen... it isn't a problem with the quality of the plastic.

The fact is that the toy attempts to do a lot of things in a very tight space, which means that not everything can be as well supported as one would like. As such, thinner plastic sections will be called upon to carry more stress than they ordinarily would be, which can result in stress fractures. The plastic quality of the toy is fine - any issues with it are design issues, not chemical.

Metal joints, for example, place stress on plastic - especially when they are of the "piano hinge" type. Likewise, any time a piece is moved in a manner it was not intended to, the plastic will become distressed and likely will not return to its original shape. In other words - read the directions and be verrrrrry careful - these are not intended for the same level of "play" which your average Transformer is.

As to your specific issues, LordMegamusPrime, it really does sound like you yank things out of their packaging. In this age of twist-ties, I've found that my best option for removing toys is to use a smiple tool everyone should have - a pair of toenail clippers. One quick snip cuts through the twist-tie, and since most can be reached from the front, this also eliminates any dragging of the twisty across the toy's surface.

In case you were wondering - yeah, my MP SS is perfectly fine.

Let me post what I posted there, OH Blot!! That is F'd up.

sounds like you are a little rough with them... my starscream, that i got last night!, is just as nice as skywarp as far as plastic. the scroch marks are a little sloppy, the back fin looks like it was handled before the grey was dry.. looks like a gloved fingerprint

as far as mine goes there are slight alignment issues that i'm not really too concerned about because it's likely a case of things just fitting togther just right much in the same way most alternators are. i have stress marks on my wings, but they arn't a big issue as i now know to just be careful with them. it seems to me that the problem isn't the plastic but the joint it's self and how one handles the joint. if you flip the wing around by the joint (i.e. with your fingers on the joint) carefully you won't have a problem but if you try to swing it at the end of the wing you can tell that it puts pressure on the joint. i noticed that right away. also, follow the instructions up to the wings, then throw them out, if you follow the instructions you'll break your wings. you MUST lift the center piece up BEFORE you push the wings down or you'll snap your joint. other than that everything's fine. well, i've got a qc issue with the right tail wing being loose and popping off but i don't care.

all in all this guy is amazing! simply a-Powerglideing-mazing. i can't wait to get him home so i can have him wield megatron. oh, and just as with 20th prime, i'm one of the morons that actually likes the weathered battle damaged look. it breaks up the monotony of the paint scheme and adds a bit of flavor and lively-hood to him. i'm not even sure that i want to clean off the nose cone. also, alot heavier than i'd expected! i just wish a few detains where painted (nipple missiles amirite?) in addition to wishing he could swivel his lower half while suspended on the base (which would enable a side looking pose), but i tink the toy designers did a marvelous job with the guy and he was WELL worth the $52 i paid for him. also, i couldn't believe how AWESOME his jet mode is, really makes me wish i had two of them, one for both modes. perhaps this guy may go on clearance some day?

say, is there anything inside the cardboard base of the packaging?

I learned when I first got MP-03, that the easiest way to transform him from jet mode was as previously stated, to start with the air brake, and I do so by opening the air brake enough to be able to grab the metal bar and lightly tug on it 'til the center section comes up, and then everything else, especially the wings, I can transform without any difficulty and have not yet noticed any stress marks.

I thought that's how you were supposed to transform him... I can see why it would cause problems if you don't do it that way.

say, is there anything inside the cardboard base of the packaging?

no idea... i didn't want to destroy the box as it may be a keeper...
