Seriously, What the Powerglide? Some of these people are treating this like this Summers Battlefield Earth in ineptitude. Just saw it & though I know my opinion matters little I know how to at least be critically objective. Any critic stupid enough to expect much of a plot from any Micheal Bay are sure to be sorely disappointed. What are they expecting out of this anyway it's a Summer movie with no other objective to be fun. Personally I thought plotwise the film stood up as a whole a lot better than anything Robert Emerich has directed. Though on the level of Armagedeon regarding scripting it's still a hell of a lot better/entertaining.

I haven't seen the movie yet and probably won't until next week (I live 80 miles from the closest theater), so I'm not saying it sucks or anything, but attitudes like that are exactly why things are as bad as they are right now in Hollywood. You're basically telling us that critics should just bend over and take it in the ass for expecting a movie to have a plot, like they're idiots for even thinking such a thing. God forbid that people should still have standards.

The odd thing to me is that the bigger movie critics are giving it much more favorable reviews (over 70%). Usually it's the other way around; the podunk newspapers are more generous towards movies.

Not to get all Hornet-y, but maybe the podunker thought the movie wasn't kiddie enough? I mean I'm not sure...maybe they expected much, much less in certain area and more in others?

No not at all. Thing is not all movies are held together by any disernable plot & are just meant to be fun not all artsy/thought provoking. You don't see Transformers, The Rock, Armagedeon to search for life's unanswered questions, new philosophies you go to enjoy yourself & munch a large bag of popcorn. I actually surprised more critics are getting it than not. Most of the reviews I've read seem to have unrelenting hate on for Bay/action movies in general & that IMO is biased. Regardless of what I think a bad movie is still a bad movie & Transformers though not any near perfect does not rank as low as many of the horrid films in the last while let alone be called worst CG! special effects movie ever. Have these guys even seen Battlefield Earth?

How quickly they forget the Godzilla remake...

I get what you're saying, it just seems like lately people have been using the "popcorn movie" excuse as a cop-out for every bad movie that comes out. And it doesn't have to be thought-provoking (I liked Armageddon and it was retarded), but these at least needs to be a coherant storyline. To this day I still have no idea what Attack of the Clones was all about. Who was Sifo Dias? What was Jango Fett's motivation? Why did they go to the bug planet and fight in a monster colliseum? At least I knew what was going on in Phantom Menace.

All I can say is that I genuinely had a great time watching Transformers. To me, a movie is "bad" if it fails to entertain me. But I wasn't bored watching Transformers, I didn't roll my eyes, I didn't think "when will this scene end", none of that. I had a great time. That's why I think it was a great movie. Now sure, I could critique the movie, but analyzing the movie is different from experiencing it.

Half the reviews at Rotten Tomatoes shouldn't even be there. They're not professional or they're swayed one way or the other. The real rating is the Cream of the Crop, which is at 72% right now. If you want to listen to someone that is paid to give their opinion that is. Personally, I'll take word of mouth from family, friends, and co-workers before I take it from one of these people.

Theres a difference between a film that is intentionally over the top and silly like say Commando and a film that is just plain stupid despite trying to pass itself off as being reasonably clever (Van Helsing).
