I expect Richard Roper to hate it. He's one of those guys who was like in his twenties during the 80s so I dobut that he'll "get" the movie. He hated the new TMNT movie.

Saw that review. Ninja Turtles aside Roper's biggest problem was as with myself/most others it was just a stupid movie. Conceptually I can see how he couldn't care less about it but what really killed it was the subpar scripting & the movies fanwank feel. With that much dedication into nostalga for the fans I can see how this wasn't accepted quite as well into a mainstream audience.

Transformers aside from character names & the original concept is trying to be anything but a fanwank 80s nostalga film. Everything about the direction Bay/Spielberg have taken the franchise has implied that this is not just another cartoon adaptation that only long time fans of the series will get. Not saying he'll like it but considering this is basically a WOTW with transforming robots & epic action/visual effects shots I think it does stand a good chance of being enjoyed by a lot of those who didn't grow up with toys/cartoons. Bay unfortunately does not have the best movie track record(most reviewers I think hate him. Especially after Bad Boys 2) but Transformers as a film looks a lot better than a majority of what he has done. Though the Island was basically DOA at the box office it did pull in a 40% fresh rating so maybe there is hope for Transformers.

Regardless of what the critics say this movie is looking to do a hella lot better than the Island or any other Bay movie to date.

The old farts always cast delusional expectations on Action films giving them horrible ratings. They are really loud and fast paced. Not for the conservative and feeble hearted that fell in love with the new cowboy movie of the 21'st century "Brokeback Mountain". The only people that truly have a say in the movie, TF fans, will love it, I think! Anytime you bring something like a cartoon that we pretty much grew up with and make it live action movie it's like bringing your imagination and all those hours spent in the back yard playing with Optimus Prime and Megatron to life! In our Generation there will still be skeptisim from the "Diehard" TF fans that won't be happy with the way things went down because the Movie didn't follow an etched in stone TF story line. I'm not sure about you, but I don't mind starting over and forgeting that TF the movie never happened and Optimus never died. I hated to see him killed off. Thats what the smaller characters are for (write-off's).

Most movie reviewers seem to be people who genuinely hate their jobs, and feel put out that they have to watch movies for a living. The fun movies never tend to get particularly good reviews, I suspect, for that reason. Roeper is one of the worst reveiwers for this reason. Remember, he hated Lilo & Stitch because he thought children would be scared by Stitch. No sense of fun, and stupid to boot. (Now watch him say he LOVES this movie...)

No, he just hates the whole idea of TMNT. The new movie was pretty good, nothing special, but not bad and certainly not worthy of the unfair treatment that he gave it.

The whole ancient warrior thing was more confusing than it needed to be. The story was about the Turtles and their own internal conflict. They should've been fighting something simple, like thieving, human ninjas (with or without Shredder), so that we wouldn't have to sideline the good Turtle conflict for LOTR style exposition in an 80 minute movie and exchanges such as:

Winters: "We had a deal."

Lady Ninja: "This wasn't part of the deal!"

Winters: "Abide by the deal!"

Lady Ninja: "Okay."

Audience: "Wha!? She just said it wasn't part of the deal. And she's right, I saw the scene where they made the deal. And now she's saying okay? What's going on?"

Movie reviewers can be dickish. Lenard Malton gave Gremlins a poor rating. When Gremlins made enough to warrant a sequel, they naturally had "Lenard Malton" assaulted by Gremlins while he said his first film review.

Lucky.
