First Look @ 'Animated' Optimus Prime; New Info On Show

Recommended Posts

I really like the look of Optimus here.

And the toys will almost certainly look like lost Classics if this is any indication. The toys that transform, that is.

This show will have Transforming toys that look like Classics.

And it will also almost certainly have show accurate non-transforming figures too.

But I can see how that Optimus transforms already. Check out the headlights on the back of his fist.

Wait...2008?

Good Lord, do I ever not want to endure another year of fanboys going :emo, :slap, :epic, :danmit, and :argue.

Especially when, come this time next year, you'll all be uncontrollably salivating for the premiere of this show.

And you know it's going to be ANOTHER year of "OMG I HATE THIS UNTIL I LOVE IT" like what happened with the movie TFs.

i may have eaten my words for the movie, but i most certainly will NOT eat my words about this.

also, at least you got some relief when half of us saw the second trailer and stfu. they don't make trailers for tv shows, and NOTHING could make that look good. :mwahaha

Uncontrollably.

Salivating.

:pfx :pfx :pfx :pfx :pfx :pfx :pfx :pfx :pfx :pfx :pfx :pfx :pfx :pfx :pfx

my biggest problem with it is that it looks exactly like G1-Toon to me.

Boxy - Check

Subspace Kibble/Oversimplified design - Check

Man in a suit aesthetic - Check

sigh.

And here i was hoping that the movie designs were going to open up new possibilities for TFs.

Still - the stories might be good etc etc. I dont know.

Holy sh*t

Holy sh*t

Bring on Transformers: Clone Wars :clap

...

Any comments I say about this would be obvious. So I'll say them all. A/E/C > this Blot, I prefer KissPlay, I could draw Prime better, generic American cartoon insult, the toys better not be show accurate...

Meh, I'll give it a chance. I'm giving the movie a chance too, after all.

my biggest problem with it is that it looks exactly like G1-Toon to me.

How is this a surprise? Look at the differences between 1989 Batman and Batman: TAS. The movie generated the necessary interest to launch the cartoon, but the cartoon itself was totally retro old-school Batman. Guess what -- this is what retro old-school Transformers looks like. And in both cases, the retro-ness is balanced by an innovative stylistic approach.

...this is SO totally going to be a repeat of the movie angst.

I guess you are right to some extent.

However to make myself clear - there is a distinction between movie angst and Animated angst.

The movie made people uncomfortable because it was so different from what they were used to. G1 specifically.

This design aesthetic annoys me because its exactly the SAME.

So i dont know that this is going to be Movie angst again. Because the whole thing with the movie was - Wait until you see them move - wait until you see something DIFFERENT it will make sense.

This we don't have to wait for anything - we know exactly what its going to look like. And probably move like and everything else.

Well... at the very least I think this will make all the movie-design haters appreciate the movie designs now...

Nope.

The similarity I'm drawing is to the aformentioned I HATE YOU I HATE I HATE YOU... AND YET I FIND YOU STRANGELY ATTRACTIVE thing that you know is going to happen. It's just too predictable.

But if I may tag off of your point there... I would again go back to Batman. The 1989 film featured an all-black armored Batsuit. No gray tights, no blue cape / cowl -- just black sculpted armor. This was not something you saw in the Batman comics. It was a different direction for the look of the main character. Then along comes Batman: TAS and lo and behold, they've gone right back to the comics. He's wearing gray tights and a blue/black cape. How unoriginal! He looks just like the old comics! Where's the innovation?

This is exactly the same thing. The only difference is that Transformers isn't older than us, and thus doesn't have the automatic "classic" mystique that comes from something that is Before Your Time.

I agree with your point pete...but, IMO i just don't find that teaser image to be aesthetically pleasing...

Will i check it out? probably. But am i in love with what i'm seeing at this point in time? hardly.
