First Look @ 'Animated' Optimus Prime; New Info On Show

All this "well these shows are made for kids thats why you no likey" stuff is pure crap. I've watched cartoons all my life. I watch cartoons today. Not all of them are so mind numbing I have to turn them off. I think RiD A/E/C were crap because they had substandard writing and animation for a MODERN cartoon. Kids shows can be intelegent enough for adults to enjoy. In my house we don't let the kids watch anything too dumb for us to stand. Hell, I can happily watch seseme street.

I'd actually say the same thing about the G1 cartoon, after watching the DVDs my primary thought was: "I could have sworn I remembered this being a lot better." And what makes it more embarrasing was that I was in college when I originally watched it, so I can't even use the "nostalgia glasses" excuse.

Put on a voltron some time. Some shows wer written better than others. I don't mind the designs in RiD but the style I don't like at all. Looks like the samuri Pizza cats. But it's the writing that is too crappy to endure. I don't see why I shouldn't be upset that in stead of a beast wars story type (also meant for kids) they've decided to make the "Titantic Transformin' Power Rangers". I'm just saying that there is a reason I don't have a power ranger collection. And that came out at a time I was demographically included. I dont have nostalgia glasses for the non tf cartoons I've watched in the last 10 years. I didn't even wach Beast wars till I was 23. It's not our age. We dont have to be delusional to not agree with you about Primes turkey neck

....oh boy.....

robot: Hey, what the hell are you doing?

Human: Uh, stealing this bank roll you overgrown toaster, duh! GET LOST!

*robot squashes human*

next episode

robot: Hey, what in the hell do you think you are you doing?

Human: Uh, crossing the street outside of a cross walk you overgrown Seiko watch, duh! GET LOST!

*robot zaps human*

wash, rinse, repeat

Seriously, without the Decepticons.......what's the need for a faction symbol? And now I'm going to use it *ahem* "How is this transformers?"

Well, maybe the humans have Ultra Mega Extreme armor robot type thingies or they're gonna cooperate with the decepticons or there's gonna be facsimiles like the one seen in IDW's 'ation' series.

seriously, watch the show, then say if you think it's good or not.

You know, I'm glad you mentioned Beast Wars. Because the animation in the first season was ROFFLE lame. And yet it ends up not mattering, because the writing and voice acting was really good.

I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere, but I just can't place it...

And for the record, G1's writing was awful by any decent standards.

edit: on second thought, I don't know why I'm bothering to argue about this. who friggin cares anyway

Wow, you must be younger than I am. PR came out I think while I was in Highschool & at that age I was WTF is this, & why would I waste my time watching it. JMO. Anyway I don't get this beatdown on stylized animation. Seriously, hands up, who didn't watch either BTAS or STAS & think they were kickass in nearly every aspect imaginable. Both series were drawn in a much more stylized anime esque style than anything at the time & quite honestly I don't remember anybody Starscreaming about Batman's ears being too large or Superman's chin sticking out as far as it did. Incidentally Gargoyles adapted a very similar style. The only thing that really changed in WBs techniqe was the anime influinced chibis in Teen Titans. Other than that the animation to all these shows has always been outstanding & well concieved. How one is able to call the animation quality of either JLU or TTs crap compared to the G1 animation of the 80s is astounding. What's been done with the Transformers is the same deal as Clone Wars/Hell Boy. It's a different approach to what we've seen in the past but in no way is it poorly excecuted. G1 was poorly excecuted not only in animation but story/plot structure as well. All the show was meant to do was sell toys & a hella lot of them. This made for very poor characterization/storys simply because there are just too many damn characters that keep floating in & out of subspace. It's kind of odd to say this but after Season 2 & the death of Optimus season 3 rectified this a bit by focussing on a smaller band of characters. Didn't help the series much considering Hasbro needed to introduce another half dozen gestalts/combiners & made Rodimus a complete emo who really didn't do anything but Starscream about not wanting to do stuff.

This for me is why G1 irratated the hell out of me. I've been able to support/accept every show following with ease because it's no longer about a show about a ton of generic robot characterizations. Instead each show begining with Beast Wars has focused only on a primary cast & as the show progresses introduces characters that make sense & have back storys & aren't just there to sell another nondiscript character I probably won't care about anyway. Personally I find it a lot easier to care about a small group of characters who form this would be team than I would an army of filler characters. The first G1 season had a lot of characters & that was fine because everybody made sense on some level but by season two it was like who the hell are all these guys, reinforcements from Cybertron, DUR.

Supid ass characacters with stupid ass plot lines from that point on. I'm not about to say all cartoons today are viably intelligent but not all are dumb & poorly scripted either. I can't say I've bothered with a lot since graduation however I found that once you actually stop to take a look at some of them & look past the simplified animation some of them are really good. Samuria Jack is as simplistic as it gets but the show in itself is brilliant. Teen Titans as was BTAS or SMTAS is basically a comic book come to life. I've read very few super hero comic books growing up & just loved it fro the get go. If Transformers is anywhere near on the same level a CN/WBs other Superhero colaborations it should be great kiddie entertainment for the kids now as G1 was for the kids then. Some of us just need to GTFU to realize it.

I'm done. :redface

I seriously hope this spawns some massive creativity as you say. I could go for human piloted mecha (they better TF) teamed with the cons. Pretenders anyone? That's not a bad idea so long as the Cons are actually in the show or behind most of the plot. I shall indeed wait and watch. It's just a bit shocking to understand that the show is actually *gasp* going in a different direction than usual.

I'm guessing the Autobots show up at earth and find bad humans with tf technology. They wonder how they got it. Shadowy figure behind main bad human. Yup is Megs. Autobots eventually bust a lab were tf stuff is being made, and find one of his henchmen. Then Prime gets obsessed in finding Megs.

Pretty much how Teen Titan started with Robin and Slade.

If it happens like that - I swear Deathmarch will love! LOVE!!

*Imagines Autobots battling transforming robot drones, only to be stunned by Skywarp teleporting in or Thundercracker sonic-booming them. Some of the plot is revealed. Hunt for Megs begins. DUN-DUN-DUN!!* (Note - that even if they have stand alone episodes there can be a basic overlaying story that won't confuse kids - such as every episode mentions, hints, or shows Decepticons in some form as human villain supporters with Megs being the big-baddie).

:tflaugh I dunno....the Great Slade Chase gets old IMO. It gets so intense I think Robin comes off as a crazy person, which I think was delved into in an episode.

It's set in the future right? So that's a guarantee it's gonna be futuristic. If done in a good way this will be a majos plus side for me.

Any one notice that Dog Prime has Star Convoy's torso?

That is cool.

And I like stylized animation. Loved Clone Wars.

G1 shows standard writing is ass by todays standards, but it was a hell of a lot better than RiD A/E/C.

I'm sure that this show will be infinatly more watchable than the recent years attempts. But with dog Prime and The "Titanic Transformin' Power Rangers" plot they've described I think I have every reasont to be concerned in my preliminary estimate.

I watch, present tense, cartoons and enjoy them. I don't think this whole "Not made for you, Nostalgia boy" argument is valid.
