First Look @ 'Animated' Optimus Prime; New Info On Show

Recommended Posts

Cybertron Downshift was an orignal non-show mold. Wasn't even a Japanese mold. Was also my favorite mold of the series.

But he was a deluxe. Hasbro is fine with releasing deluxe-sized original toys but I can't, for the life of me, think of any non-show voyager or larger that was not just a repaint/retool of a pre-existing character who was featured in the cartoons.

What about "Voyager" Beast Primal / Megs :tflaugh

its a last minute opp. to win over the fanboys to the Bay camp for the movie, duh! :roll

What toy is that? And technically, Primal and Beast Megs are show characters.

My complaint isn't directed so much at this show in general, but just at the trend of animation today. it's piss poor. It's either suyper-Japanimation, or it's crap like this. Well, I'm really not surprised.

Well I hope that if Hasbro does intend to stretch out the movie line, we do get original voyagers at one point.

It's going to be a year. Look at Revenge of the Sith -- that toy line lasted for a year as well. Is it going to dry up next summer before the "Animated" toys hit? Yes. But that's what happened with Cybertron and Classics prior to the movie toys coming out.

I don't think the movie is a full "18 month" toy-line like we got with A/E/C.

The blurb I saw says "Animated" starts in January 2008, if Hasbro holds to form, my guess is the toys will be out in Nov/Dec 2007 and share space with the movie toys through the holiday season (similarly to how Classics shared the shelves with the end of Cybertron).

That's definitely possible, considering that Hasbro really isn't offering anything else for Transformers anyway. But I highly suspect that we are in for an ASSLOAD of movie toy repaints.

I certainly hope not. It just reeks of laziness and cheapness on Hasbro's part when they fill up a tf toyline with repaints. Does any other toy company fill up their actionfigure toylines with repaints as much as Hasbro does?

BTW, I was wrong about the release date, it's actually Spring 2008 and not Fall, which is a more reasonable time gap.

You make it sound like Hasbro makes their development & production costs back on every single mold they produce. They're a business, and profitability = staying in business. You should be happy that they're repainting toys; every repaint means more resources available to Hasbro for new stuff.

Did anyone notice how it says on the promotional posters that the new series will not air until Fall 2008? That has to be a typo since I really don't see how Hasbro can stretch the movie toyline out for a whole year, especially since they seem to have a policy against releasing original molds, of non-show characters, that are larger than a deluxe. What are they going to do, repaint the hell out of the existing movie voyagers and release nothing but deluxes between now and Fall 2008? They could make voyager molds of Bonecrusher and Brawl but what would they do for the autobots?

I thought it said Spring 2008? I could have misread that.

Well they do have several repaints of the movie figs planned BUT could it be possible that they may go back and do some more Alternators and Classics between the movie and the new cartoon?

EDIT: Sorry guys...wrote this before I finished reading the thread. Still I do hope we get more Alternators at some point.
