Was there ever any confusion on that point?

or do you just like typing "SIC Titanium"

:tflaugh

RIRFIB

reasons:

* That's the way the toys are, and the toys came first.

* That's the way they've been coloured in the G1 and G2 comics, which came before and long outlasted the cartoon.

* I also grew up reading various Transformers story books, such as the Ladybird books etc. (e.g.: "The Autobots' Lightning Strike"), and they were always coloured toy-accurate in these books.

* AFAIK in the more contemporary comics (i.e.: Dreamwave until now), Rumble and Frenzy have been identified as being red and blue respectively (i.e.: toy accurate). IIRC they followed RIRFIB in Dreamwave's "More Than Meets The Eye" books.

* In the cartoon, Rumble is PURPLE, not blue! Okay, he had some blues, but he was mostly lavender. Also, in the Japanese dub, the lavender robot was called Frenzy and the red/black robot was Rumble - making it more toy-accurate.

* The number of incarnations that followed FIRRIB vs number of incarnations that followed RIRFIB shows us that the majority of TF incarnations use RIRFIB.

I personally cannot accept a "standard" established by what is nothing more than an anomaly from the cartoon, which is really a confusing screw up by Sunbow animators - Hauler and Sunstorm are based on anomalies too, but they're not confusing. Even before the e-Hobby toys came out, we always knew that Hauler was some obscure Autobot who only ever appeared for a brief moment in MTMTE (he's still listed on the "Obscure Transformers Web Site") and Sunstorm was one of an endless army of generic nameless repaints - a colouring anomaly to be sure, but since his colour scheme is unique, it means that he cannot be confused with other first year Sky Raiders. The whole FIRRIB thing on the other hand is clearly the animators mismatching the Rumble and Frenzy colour schemes.

All true, but good luck getting anyone to buy into that. The fact of the matter is, Rumble "is" blue and Frenzy "is" red on the show, and that was the primary influence on a lot of Transfans.

It is interesting to note that this preference has not been supported by Hasbro since the original cartoon or in any other media, though.

According to the japanese version of the toon then, the guy who was making all the earthquakes was called Frenzy, while Rumble just kinda stood around or hung out in Soundwave's chest....

yeah that makes sense

well neither of the toys had pile drivers, and it never said anything about that on their tech specs. So meh

WHY????

Ah yeah I really wanna type something more but I best not. :redface

shockwave2005: Does it matter? In the cartoon Frenzy and Rumble both have Rumble's earthquake making ability - in TFTM we see them using them at the same time even! So no matter if you subscribe to RIBFIR or FIRRIB, Frenzy always had Rumble's power in the cartoon. Which is stupid, because Frenzy is supposed to have a completely different special ability which he never really used in the cartoon - but he did use in the comics -- spectacularly so in G2. ;)

Also, Rumble was originally supposed to create Earthquakes by sending seismic vibrations into the ground generated from his legs -- not from his piledriver arms - which the toy never had. Also, it's a lot more effective to create earthquake by generating underground vibrations as opposed to just smashing the surface with piledrivers -- piledrivers simply break the ground apart -- seismic vibrations can travel and do far more wide-ranging damage. In some books they would illustrate Rumble actually jumping up and down to hammer vibrations into the ground, which I think was a pretty neat concept. If Rumble ever appears in an upcoming live action movie, it'd be cool if he retained this ability, and each time his feet lands we should hear this seismic shockwave (similar to the seismic explosions from Jango Fett's Slave-1 in Star Wars Episode II) followed by an animated "ripple" tearing outward from Rumble.

I think the concept behind his tech spec was the round tape hole things would turn like big tumblers generating the seismic activity which would travel through his body and into the ground by his legs. I always liked that better than pile drivers because it explains the tape hole things.
