MP-03 Masterpiece Starscream review .....

Recommended Posts

I just want to say that I don't like being left out of the "G1 purists" group b/c I consider myself to be one. I just think that being a purist means respecting the integrity of the original series, not insisting that everything following that series imitate it slavishly.

oh and BTW I guess I tend to trust the opinions of non-fans more... they don't have an agenda

As do I, which is why I think MP SS can do without a blue nosecone and tailfins. A simple gray color is all MP SS needed to maintain realism and give him G1-style colors.

I think your point is fair Pete - However i dont think comlexity and durability are mutually exclusive.

Yeah. This guy could have easily been made out of the sameplastic as Cybertron Jetfire.

It wouldn't even need to be that hardcore of plastic. Does anyone here have any of the 1/48 Yamato Valkyries? They've got small, moving Blot all over the place and, with the exception of one notorious part, they're freakin-a durable. I also think that if Takomy or Hasbro would (could) have made this in a 1/48 size it would have been more durable, without much more of a markup. Seriously-- those things go for ~$150... and when you're up to the $100 range anyway, I think most people would gladly pay and extra $50 or so for a larger, more durable figure.

Takomy was using SS as a bullet aimed at the VF-xx's anyway, right?

:tflaugh to Pete's last statement b/c it is so true.

I agree w/ Mike. I would have been much happier w/ SS if he were in the "right" colors and w/o the blue nose and fins. That would have kept up w/ the realism and done a better job of being an homage to G1, which means "imitat[ing] it slavishly" since this is clearly supposed to be the masterpiece G1 SS.

Actually, I've heard horror stories from Yamato Valk owners.... I guess it all comes down to a combination of QC and luck.

I have one of those Robotech Masterpiece toys from Toynami. I bought it from Digital-toys for like $37. When I opened it, I found a plastic pin for the jetpack thingy had broken. It was hell trying to glue it back on.

I've had mine for a year and haven't had a problem yet. And serisouly-- after I watched the movies at the bottom of this page I was *alot* less carefull when transforming my Valk. The thing's a beast.

The only horror stories I've heard about the valks is the backpack hinge, which has been taken care of in the new VF-0x's and have recast parts readily available from many different people.

I don't think it's any special magic or new technology (these were made in 2002) with them that they couldn't use with MPSS.

That's different from the Yamato 1/48..... WAAAAAAY different. The Masterpiece robotech line was just slightly updated G1 Jefire's-- the 1/48 are completely redesigned. If you have any interest in Macross whatsoever, you should pick up one of those things. They're quite awesome. I picked up a VF-1S Hikaru with the intent of repainting it into Jetfire but never got a round to it.... but I still enjoy it every day and it's a great card holder! ;)

Yeah, MikePrime found a bunch of pics of Japanese F-15s and they are predominantly that color grey (which of course could explain why Kawamori went w/ that color). I guess the skies in Japan are much gloomier than over here b/c that color would not work w/ our skies.
