I'm Alternators only collector, with some G1 reissues. I also have the Titanium figures and Cybertron Soundwave and Downshift. I like Soundwave because they gave him a good looking, modern form, and made his cassettes into bombs. Downshift was just a neat '70s.

 

I don't really collect Cybertron toys, even though I do think this line has the most good looking toys out of the three new Transformers cartoons. It's really a matter of the fact that I can't buy everything.

 

For me, the only time I get really fanboyish went it comes to G1, is the cartoon. Beast Wars and Beast Machines can stand on their own, since even a dumb concept like BM was still well made. However, out of the five other cartoons, G1 is still the best. RID was fun, mainly because it had a good sense of humor about itself, but I do not like Armada, Energon, or Cybertron.

And that's a position I respect.

 

Personally, I have never been as excited for a toyline as I am about Classics. While I have liked many figures from recent lines, at my core, I love the G1 characters and Classics is a dream come true. I'd even go so far as to say if Classics were the last TF line EVER, I'd be content (so long as they get out a Jazz and Prowl :tflaugh ) to say " I can call my collection complete" While I am aware of the strengths and weaknesses of each line, G1 will always be a soft spot.

 

But I think the REAL issue as of late is the movie. In 2003/4, the G1 hating was pretty well gone, or at least not as major. But with the announcement of the film, and all the press related to it, we have people that have never touched a Transformers toy, watched a Transformers show, in decades suddenly coming out to complain that the film is not "THEIR" Transformers.

I think a good many of us who've been around (be it on message boards or not) since Beast Wars have seen major changes, and accept that we have no control over and accept it as it comes (with the knowledge everything goes in cycles). But a LOT of people came back in during the homage heavy days of Energon or RID have not experienced a change like this, thus don't know how to cope.

 

So I don't feel G1 itself is being hated on, it's the idiots who've popped up since the movie started getting pushed proclaiming all that is good about G1 and how if it isn't G1, it sucks

We have to all agree about Classics. Those look good, no matter who ya are. I can't wait to start seeing those on shelves.

Maybe they should have been the movie toys. If they were, everyone would be so happy that you wouldn't know what to do with all the happiness.

or, they'd keep Starscreaming, cuz some people just want a live action G1.

thier will be tards in any fandom but this infighting is just getting silly. G1 was the first and with out that thier would be nothing but well... go-bots (the horror) ok their were some odd episodes but thier were also some awsome ones. and the rest would not be around if it wernt for G1 and again thier have been hits and misses. but with out eather TF's would not be what it is today a large fandom thats not as lame as hotwheels collectors and slighty less geeky then SW and ST fans

Who are the G1 purists?

people who think that G1 is the greatest tf series ever and that all modern series are garbage compaired to it. no one series is 100% perfect, they all have their own strenghts and weaknesses.
