Well lets be realistic, back when BW came out many of the old G1 fans bashed the hell out of all the then New transformer fans because they loved this new Beast Wars show. Which kinda started the whole G1 fans hate change sterotype. Honestly I don't see that much anymore. Everyonce in awhile, but not nearly as much as I saw it when Armada started up.

 

It was more like "OMFG TRANSFORMERS CAN'T BE ANIMALS"

 

and then they forget the dinobots, thevarious animal cassettes(Not just the famous ones, but also stuff like the dino ones that came out late in G1.), various pretenders, the sharkticons, sky lynx, the predadons, the seacons.

 

god, there were at least 2 dozen animals TFs in G1, and the dinobots got rereleased in G2. there was no place for them to Starscream.

 

Yeah, but even the Decepticons hated on the Beast Transformers (season 4). But yeah, the Dinobots kicked ass. Maybe the reason why Beast Transformers from G1 were better loved was because they were still robotic in beast mode.

Prior to Pete's allegation in the last thread I was enjoying pdemio's opinions on what makes Transformers what it is and had been writing a reply. Starscream had lead to it, but it was no longer about him, the conversation had moved on.

I did not agree with most of what he said, nor expected him to agree with mine, I just enjoyed talking about it and could have happily talked about it as long as someone was interested and raising points that opposed mine.

 

That's what I do.

I don't come to forums to joke around or make friends, I see something that interests me and I discuss it.

First off, I'm going to quote the definition of complacency for you.

 

"An instance of contented self-satisfaction."

 

Let me explain this. The only 'content' is from you. People have the right to be satisfied if they like something (see Constitution). There is also no reason people should feel bad for liking something that they enjoy, as long as it's not something immoral. I don't see anyone contesting your opinion of disliking certain toys. But, you are definitely trying to tell people that they are stupid for liking toys that you don't. That's a cracked out point of view that you've got there. Look, man. People are always going to like different things. The world would be a mighty boring place if everyone was the same. Why not just respect peoples' different opinions as just that? Different. As far as making friends, I have no problem believing you on that one.

I guess the best I can say is that my aim is to discuss things. For whatever reason what I say is not understood or misread constantly. I'm not having any fun as I just wanted to talk Transformers, and I doubt anyone here is having any fun reading or responding to this, so I'll agree to talk about this with me personally no longer.

But I do still hold by the opinion that this fandom reacts differently when G1 is mentioned, which was the whole reason I posted in this thread in the first place.

i think what josh lowe was originally trying to say is that why are g1 purists always the end of everyone's jokes...

 

they are targeted because those guys see g1 as the holy grail of tf's and any other continuity of the original series ruined it for them. its fans like that who can't handle that prime died in the movie n they can't handle new leaders as the center of attn in other series. now we have prime in every series (which isn't a bad thing) *heck, in robot masters, you get more then what u bargin for...*

 

but it shows that without prime n megs being evolved throughout tf's history, i don't think they would sell like they have now. g1 purists hate the fact that they see these two characters get regurgutated into every new cartoon and dont think its cool.

 

what ends up happening is when a g1 purists comes to the forums and has an opinion, everyone thats into the 'new stuff' always gets into heated arguments as to why cant we change your mind to like the new stuff n how its better then g1...

What it boils down to, is that the G1 purists (actually, they are more of a dying breed than they were about six years ago) insist on the better overall construction and characterization of their baby.

 

:Points to Macross 1/48 Valks and 1/60 VF-0S...:Remembers Oh yeah, we got MP-Prime, UM and SS.

Only difference is that the G1 show is corny while SDF Macross is great. :P

I don't see it that way. I'm into it ALL. I don't see G1 fans being the butt of every joke. I'm a G1 fan. I should know. I will say this though. For the most part, G1 fans are a dying breed. Each year, with each new Transfan, G1 gets older and older. Those of us that were in it from the beginning are outnumbered by plenty of new faces who have shown up because of Beast Wars, Robots in Disguise, and in some cases Armada/Energon/Cybertron. Does that mean we should all act like a bunch of grumpy old wiseasses? Hell no. Not unless you really WANT to be made fun of. We should welcome these new guys with open arms to a certain extent. They will never understand G1. They weren't there for it.

 

Some of your other comments really bring it into perspective though. Why is it that anything that comes after G1 is crap to you guys? Why is it that the new stuff "ruined it" for you? Did it somehow magically erase G1? No. That's why I suggest getting over it. G1 is still there. It's still cool for us G1 fans. The Transformers brand is not being ruined by change. If anything the fandom is spoiled by Hasbro's obsession with trying to link everything back to G1. Spoiled. I honestly believe that. Every time something new comes out, I have to wade through all the crap that is "New stuff sucks." Frankly, I'm bored with it. Transformers is/has been/always will be more than G1. Each Transfan's thoughts of what makes Transformers will depend when he/she joined the fandom. It doesn't mean anyone is better than anyone else. Being a Generation 1 fan should not make you an elitist.

 

Truthfully, I just want the bickering to stop. There should be a way for everyone to express their differing opinions without insulting those that possess different ones. I think it has something to do with human interaction. I'll tell you this though. Having the opinion of "I won't respect anyone who doesn't like what I like" is a really f*cked up way to go through life. Those that don't agree are in denial. Think about it.

I think the fact that there is such hostility towards the very defense of liking G1 just shows how disliked G1 is. People need to lighten up. The mere term "G1 purist" comes off that someone is trying to be elite in some way. Maybe if all of us generation 1 fans didn't act like we're better than everyone else, there wouldn't be problems such as this.
