G1 haters

Recommended Posts

I see us G1 types as the older grumpy guys sitting at the nursing home pointing at the newer cartoons/toys and saying:

"Sure, they have articulation, but where's the imagination? Back in my day the cartoons had spirit! They were fun to watch!"

and then there's the beast wars folks. They'd be the people who put us g1ers in the homes:

"Dad...mom...shhh, just sit back and relax, damn! Look, Beast Wars gave us the ball joints and easy to fix broken limbs problem. No more bricks pops, you gotta see that."

Now...BW was 10 years ago for cying out lud and we see the rebirth of fans with RiD-Cybertron. This Armada era is still young, most being anywhere from 4-15 or so. They consider BW old, as for G1 why should they care? To them we are like old vets at the nursing home complaining about what has passed and little care for the future:

"Dude, Gramps will not shut up about this Optimus Prime thing, something about Cullen or something, I dunno. And then my Dad was saying how Hot Shot was Cheetor who was Hot Rod, and Iwas like, Dad! Shut up!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lame ass comparisons aside, most G1 fans will always love G1 the most, hell it's what a lot of us grew up with. There are also a lot who didn't grow up with G1, they had other shows to see and that's what they grew up with; thus it imprinted on thew as G1 did on us. I never see it as hating a line as much as i see it as a changing of the gaurd of sorts.

I think it's partly a case of denial - a lot of G1 fans are very unsure about the movie but want to be seen as open minded and never stop to think that it could actually turn out horrible and constantly rearrure themselves it wouldn't matter if it did.

And it's also "maturity". Some G1 fans like to feel like they've "grown up" and grown out of such fanboyism. Which means of course, acting like a complete piece of Blot and pushing it in other peoples' faces.

It's just another case of people on the internet looking for stupid reasons to be "Better" than other people. Geewun is the Transformers community's "Goth Punch" or "Emo".

um, stop trying to make yourself a martyr and realize the reason you were bashed so much is because you wouldn't shut up about it, please.

I'm not making myself a matyr.

I'm not talking about the being bashed bit, I know why people bitched at me.

I'm fine with that.

I'm talking about the assumption I hated change and anything not G1 because of my opinion on one figure.

I'm not the only one it's happened to, and I know a number of people who avoid forums because of that kind of thinking.

Oh Gods, you're getting the Martyr rubbish too?

Sorry, dude with Grimlock avatar, but if that's the only defense you have, it means you can't argue. So quit while you're ahead. Or not too far behind, rather.

I think this would be a good time for everyone to push themselves away from their keyboards and breath. Folks...

THEY

ARE

TOYS.

All other whining and crying is pointless. I don't care if they call them 'collectors' items' or not. They are toys. This is a hobby. Get over yourselves. If you don't like it, give reasons and let that be that. If someone says they don't understand why you don't like it, that is their opinion and they are just as much entitled to it as you are of yours. Don't sit around and try and convince other people not to like something.

THAT

WOULD BE

IGNORANT.

If someone doesn't like something and they gave something other than "It suxxors" then they should be allowed that opinion as well. This stuff is just retarded. I don't mind open discussion and a little debate can be very interesting. When you start resulting to childish little insults, it's going to be stopped. Chill, cool it, calm down. Whatever you have to do to control yourself from these little petty outbursts, do it. No one is above anyone else.

Furthermore, there are no guidelines of "What Transformers must look like". Hasbro OWNS the rights to their brand, which means THEY dictate what things will look like. Don't like it? Don't buy it. No one is forcing you. In fact, that is pretty much the only control over the product you will actually have.

Take it or leave it, but pretty soon, I'll just start deleting all the stupid stuff and try and save a few of the remaining sane citizens.

:tflaugh Awesome analogy

I grew up with my brothers G1 toys and videos (Although I was born early enough for the film)

G1 sucked.

It was camper than Centre parks.

Ofcourse I refute that for some of the comic arcs, but the Cartoon blew.

It is the past, sure its where it all began but to be honest the United nations began because of World war 1.

Odd comparisons aside, I'll be glad when the world regards G1 with nothing more than light nostalgia.

I was a purist up until about a week ago when I bought some cybertron (namely armorhide and breakdown) andnow I freaking love it although I will stand strong in my belief that Armada was a demon child spawned from the loins of the devil himself sent to crush our spirits.

I either like a figure, or I don't. There are good & bad toys in all of the series. My reasons for liking/disliking a figure are my opinions, I often don't have the same tastes as everyone else. Sometimes I'll try to let others see my reasons but that's not always possible. I was completely underwhelmed by the BW 10th figures as I missed the show & toy line as a kid so I don't feel an urge to go out & get them. From what I've heard though, they're pretty-much well liked & i'm probably missing out. I find it very hard to understand why anyone doesn't want to collect all of the Alt figures, it's their choice though!

FWIW - I can't stand the look of ANY of the Titanium line, I love the look of the Classics line though. Each to their own I suppose.

is it any wonder why people think you're a wanker when you make posts like that?

I'd rather people think I'm a wanker for my actual beliefs than think I'm a wanker for beliefs they project on to me.

Every review I've heard from people on this site says he is a hella-cool figure- why should someone not think you're a douchebag when you insult the intelligence of fans because they like a child's toy that you didn't? That's the whole thing.

I'm not insulting the intelligence of people who like children's toys I don't, I'm saying that those who say a collector aimed product isn't what they want, but were told it was intended to be or is going to be the best they're going to get so will settle, as opposed to saying "If you want my money you have to do better" is screwing themselves and other fans over.

If that bothers you, that's fine, but their complacency affects me and every other fan so we're entitled to have and voice our opinions about it.

It's the same with anything. A comic may offend half of it's readership, but as long as 90% of those keep buying it anyway as it's all they have, the company has no incentive to "right" things 'cos sales, the important thing, says there's no problem.

I'm not going to respect someone like that, ever.

And just to remind you, we're not talking about children's toys here, we're talking about collector aimed products.

The non collector aimed stuff is all great 'cos it does what it's there to do, make kids happy.

Come on, man. I've asked that you guys don't keep that crap going.

And that is just the way things are. You have no control over it. Majority rules, so there is no need to go around insulting people for their likes. You aren't the center of the Universe; especially not the Transformers Universe.

I'm not going to respect someone like that, ever.

This comment right here is the exact problem, imo. You're saying you're going to disrespect someone over their preference of childrens' toys? How low will you go?

And just to remind you, we're not talking about children's toys here, we're talking about collector aimed products.

The non collector aimed stuff is all great 'cos it does what it's there to do, make kids happy.

Actually, we're talking about both. Childrens' toys are the foundation for Collectors' items. Need I remind you that there were no collectors' Transformers back in 1984? You can't place different rules on things that still fall under the same category; that category being toys. Once again, I have to say that if enough people buy it that like it, the rest fall into the minority. My question would be about the Japanese. What are they saying about this item? I mean, technically it's getting produced for them, even though I know a large consumer fanbase of Takara products exists around the world. I'm just saying, are you also branching out and trying to change their minds as well? Why just English speaking fans? Surely, failing to acknowledge anyone who wants to buy these would put a huge hole in your strategy of changing the sales of these products.

I'm a "collector" & if Takara are screwing me with MP Starscream, it sure feels good!
