It's funny, but you don't see fans out there saying, "This is so not RiD! HasTak, Michael Bay and Don Murphy are going to alientate the whole world and the Transformers fans who keep them employed if they don't stay true to RiD!"

G1 purists are the only ones who get their underwear in a knot anytime the TF line progresses away from their idea of the original. G1 is no more or less "official" than BW or any of the Japanese lines.

I'm a gen 1 fan, but lets face it, its a 80's cartoon, trying to watch it now compared to the other cartoons, it(gen 1) makes beast machines look good. Between Simon Furman and Hasbro, Gen 1 is dead and gone... we will never see Gen1 and any good form again... its dead! let it R.I.P!

for the newer generation of kids, Armada,Energon, and Cybertron is Gen 1... hasbro has said that its the revamped gen 1 with the minicon being there.. I came to grips with this and so should the rest of Gen 1 fanboys.

My personal favorite of the cartoons was RiD... a different tell of the transformers, but I didn't like the lazy cowardly leader they made Megatron out to be.

to this so called Gen1 classics line- this isn't the old made new... Megatron is still the same idiot leader that doesn't care about his troops in his command... its all about him! so to me that means no new mold for Galvatron but a repaint(power up) version of the Megatron Nerf gun.

plus I truly think this line will have a Nemesis Prime in it too... further proving to me this isn't My generations Gen 1 but the current generations version.

My Gen 1 is dead and not being revived in any form... I can live with that.

R.I.P. Generation 1 transformers... you served fandom well! :tfsad

The idea that there is a "true fan" of anything, let alone Transformers, is incredibly arrogant and ROFFLElicious at the same time.

Seeing how Beast Wars/Machines is the only worthwile thing ever to come out of the franchise...

you make a huge jump when you say people who hate G1ers hate non whites too.

and, FWIW, the groups you mentioned don't hate beliefs. They hate skin colors. There's a huge difference. You can't pick your skin color.

poor kids.

Actually, it's ok, because ignorant comments are being deleted.

uhhh.... wow. :wtf

I think that it has to do with the fact that G1 fans, such as myself, are rather stuck in their ways. For example, I grew up with the toys and loved the comics, but it wasn't until I was halfway through my first year at university (and had a student loan to blow!) that I got really back into tranformers. I started to collect the toys that I never had before, read the new comics, watch episodes of G1 I had never seen when they were released on DVD etc.

This was only 4 years ago now and it's only recently that I've even taken the slightest of interest in anything post-G1. To me, any toys past that aren't a homage to G1 (i.e. MP OP, alternators, etc) don't interest me as much. Reasons for this? Well for one the toys I speak of are ones that are familiar, ones which have been familiar for a long time now.

Take prowl for example - regardless of the BT story when I bought BT prowl all I was thinking was that this is the prowl whose stuffy character I loved in the comics, who was mercilessly shot down in the movie, who I owned as an original toy, simply given a modern form. Like many G1 fans I didn't take to the mold straight away. Why? Because it wasn't quite the prowl I remembered. He didn't quite transform the same - it's that simple. Do I care now? Hell no! I love the toy.

I guess that's the real point I'm trying (sort of) to make. G1 and it's characters have had so much background built up on them (between comic, cartoon and fanfic) that anything that isn't familiar isn't as readily warmed to. Back to the Prowl example, the only RID I've ever seen is a few toys in stores (not through choice - UK didn't show the cartoon I don't think) and one of the figures was Prowl. Now I don't know anything about the character bio for RID prowl but because it doesn't look anything like G1 prowl (even though chances are the characters are nothing like each other) then it doesn't hold much interest. Even the A/E/C Optimus and megatron, despite their visible similarities to G1, don't hold as much appeal as they just don't have the same persona as in G1.

Bottom line I think is that although I, as a G1 fan, love G1, I am accepting and loving other aspects of the TFs (am watching cybertron as I type) and can readily accept any new ideas that future directions such as the movie throw our way. Whether or not they become as cherished time will tell.
