I got into TFs in 96 with Beast wars, and this is my take on the whole thing:

 

G1 is a good show. Animation sux, but is made up for with the clever writing, fast pace, and great character designs. Credit must be given just because of the fandom it started. A bad show can't do that.

RID, if you remember it's supposed to be humerous, it's fun to watch!

My 1st comment I was playing devils advocate. What I really mean is that we are all Transformer Fans and there really should not be divisions or rivalry. It should be the simple love for the Transformers as a hobby

I think it's partly a case of denial - a lot of G1 fans are very unsure about the movie but want to be seen as open minded and never stop to think that it could actually turn out horrible and constantly rearrure themselves it wouldn't matter if it did.

 

And it's also "maturity". Some G1 fans like to feel like they've "grown up" and grown out of such fanboyism. Which means of course, acting like a complete piece of Blot and pushing it in other peoples' faces.

 

It's just another case of people on the internet looking for stupid reasons to be "Better" than other people. Geewun is the Transformers community's "Goth Punch" or "Emo".

So what you're saying is that because I (and others) didn't like the A/E/C trilogy or the beast era I'm an (in your words) "emo" or a "goth Punch"? Because if that's what you're saying, then you need to seriously STFU and go play with some of the other special needs children.

Ever since Hasbro started to recycle Japanese shows, they were horrible. The above included, as well as RID. With exception to Generation 2, all US Shows were better than those 4 combined.

 

OK let me leave out Energon, I haven't seen enough of that. But I remember that Super Link was better.

Seeing how Beast Wars/Machines is the only worthwile thing ever to come out of the franchise...

 

 

Thats your opinion Chief. I think BW was a great show, havent watched BM, gotta say from what everyone's said about it and the fact I pretty much know the plot of it already. I don't get why everyone degrades G1, granted it might have continuity errors and some episodes were cheesy, big deal, you can't tell me there weren't some stupid BW episodes. G1 was a good fun show, it had good charachters and it was just fun to watch, was it some great change your life show you just had to watch, no of course not. My opinion, its my fav. The original comics, eh, I liked some, others not so much, the later storylines I digged. I like BW to, can't say A/E/C have any place in my heart though. I admit at one time I was G1 only, I've since mellowed, I bought the BW complete series, the Armada first half DVD boxed set, and have gone back and bought figures from most lines. I think the reason most G1 fans complain is well in the past few years, there really hasn't been any show thats worthwhile. There've been some good toys, especially from the Cybertron line, but not an overwhelming load of them. And change is good, but not just for the sake of change, I think thats what everyone's gripe about the movie is mainly about, it looks like thats the case. I don't think theres a true fan out there that doesn't want this movie to be good and succeed, people are concerned I think they have the right to be. I think hollywood is big on remakes and "reimaginings" which in most cases turn out to be crap, doesn't mean this movie is going to be. I gotta sign me personally, after seeing some of the designs, I'm kind of scared, I do plan on watching the movie and reserving judgement then. Bottom line is we all have our favorites and our dislikes. SOme people probably think Energon was the greatest TF show/line ever, thats there right. I still like the original better myself but thats just me. Diffrent strokes for diffrent folks, but we're all fans and we should respect that.

Though in my opinion only I have to say RID was one of the better of recycled Japanese shows. G2 unless you mean the kickass Marvel comics arc was nothing more than a collection recycled G1 toons with obnoxious CG1 thrown in to divide up the scenes. I remember watching G2 and thinking this sucks. No tank Megatron, and why isn't prime's trailler black and have kickass guns on it. Sorry I'm okay if you like it but G2 ranks about a notch higer than the whole BT Kiss thing happening now.

G2 wasn't so bad. It was just a really lazy effort to rehash an old series as a new series. The stories were the same as g1 though and G1>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Energon

As I mentioned in another thread, I am biased against RID because I saw Car Robots previous to that. And yes, I meant the G2 "cartoon". I remember it was on every Saturday morning, and every time I tuned it, it was Dinobot Island. I think that ep was on 6 out of 10 times or something nuts like that.

I like G1, grew up with it and all that, but as far as I'm concerned change is good for the francise. If the TF francise were to stay as G1 or G1 homages, it would soon become very dull because it wouldn't be getting the chance to be pushed in new directions. Like with Star Trek for instance, a lot of the older Trek fans want Star Trek to be Kirk era/Kirk style all the time, they hate Deep Space Nine for being different, they hate Voyager for having a woman captain who doesn't get her top off like Kirk used to do, they hate Enterprise for not having Kirk in it and not following the time line as they expect it to be told and they like Next Gen because it's usually as boring as the old 60's Trek with Riker being the new Kirk. That kind of thinking can destroy a francise.

So having the TF francise changing a lot helps it, invites new ideas, keeps the francise from becoming stale. I'm quite fond of the newer lines, Armada Hot Shot may not be great, but the toy is a good mould when you consider it was designed with kids in mind. Plus a lot of Cybertron is very good and Energon wasn't bad, RID had some great moulds and the mini cons are excellent.

As long as the TF francise is allowed to grow and change, then it will always be good. If it doesn't get to grow and change, it will just become boring. Change is good.
