Mixing KO's & g1

Recommended Posts

people can do what they want. if you feel fine with buying kos, then go for it. i wouldnt say your collection is Blot for it (some people views seem to be needlessly negative on the subject) its just not official. and like i said, if it doesnt matter to you then youre ahead of the rest of us in some respects because some of us morons will spend a rediculous amount of money on tfs that have been reproduced elsewhere.

but just to reiterate, kos arent for me. i bought a ko devastator once. didnt care for it. live and learn.

Transformers are toys.

Toys are made to have fun with.

You can have fun with a knockoff.

If you're a "real collector", they don't count. If you collect them just because you have fun with them, hey, enjoy. I've had some KO's that actually were MORE durable than the original I had.

As a kid, I grew up with "Shackwave" - which was a really popular toy here as Shockwave was never sold in Australia. I incidentally also grew up playing with a KO of the pre-TF Perceptor, which was black. These toys represented the Shockwave and Perceptor of my childhood, and I'll admit that I had lots of fun playing with them. When Takara announced the Perceptor reissue, I got really excited - not about getting a Perceptor reissue (although my original G1 Perceptor was in desperate need of replacement) but of the thought of e-Hobby doing an exclusive reissue of the black pre-TF which my childhood KO toy was based on!! And of course, my dreams were answered with the announcement of Magnificus (w/ Gamede). Hurrah! Magnificus gave me the means to legitimately own a toy that resembled a toy that I grew up playing with!

But as fun as these KOs were, I could never count them as Transformers. The thing that made me stop counting them was the advent of the internet and my soon affiliation with the online fandom. When comparing my collection with other collectors, I soon realised that it was unjust for me to include my KOs when comparing myself with others who owned the original. So during the 90s I went and acquired myself an original Perceptor (and later I got the reissue too) as well as an original G1 Shockwave to properly add to my collection.

So as Valandar said, if you just want to buy a KO to muck around with and have fun with it - then go for it. But you wouldn't go adding it to your Transformers collection count. From a collectability POV, KOs will never count.
