Alternator Megatron????

Recommended Posts

IF this is actually being produced into a toy, an ALT/BT is probably out of the question unless they change the scale.  Movie Megs is possible, but from reading other posts, it also seems unlikely due to prior descriptions*.  This would basically leave either unused concept art, quite possibly from the Neo G1 line or Titanium line, or a potential Masterpiece Megatron, where scale wouldn't necessarily matter.

I guess my question to Hornet is - which film in the last few years has gone out of its way top make the marketing/toy designs decidedly different than the movie designs?

xmen? Spidrman? Batmanbegins? (which is as far from a kids film as i can imagine and still be talking about spandex operas) Pirates of Carribean?

where is this theory of yours coming from? what precident?

yeah I've been seeing Pirates of the Caribbean toys all over the place this time... now that they know it'll sell tickets. Not sure how that's a kid-friendly movie though (meaning young kids). And as you said, I don't really look at Batman Begins as very kid-friendly either. Or Spider-Man or LotR or X-Men or...

[quote name=Lord Madhammer' date='Jun 1 2006,

That's where it came from and I meant he'd be taller than 20th Prime who's 30 cm tall

So at 1:32 he'd be 30 cm.

And isn't MPOP 1:32 scale to begin with.  Seems like a good fit.  I still think this just a drawing by a a student, though I hope it isn't.

in all honesty, i'm under the impression that the movie designs will be something similar to this. the movie designers will want the tf's to look relatively realistic and toys based on such designs would be a very strong deviation from what we've seen in the past few years. also, Transformers are first and formost, a toyline so Hasbro would probably be more concerned with selling the toys than the success of the movie.

i don't care what line. i just want it

They would do so at their own peril... I can't see any marketing exec okaying that idea.

well, you never know. just look at your own sig, for example. the toys are all brightly colored with fairly humanoid robot modes. those are the kind of toys that appeal to little kids. the movie designs might very well appear relatively dull, ugly, and boring to those same kids. the execs might very well think that the number of kids put-off by the movie-inaccurateness of the toys may be smaller than the number of kids put-off by the movie designs themselves.

Who knows what they'll do... if there are only a handful of (main) characters, they may decide to release multiple versions at different price points.

Hmmmm. Now I see all those ancient cross breed TFs coming back. Watchman, a Soundwave Discman "with hidden face and movable arms", TF:TM Reflector digicam "be an opperative for the evil Decepticons with this Transformable Digital Camera. It disguises as_____" "Inflatable Optimus Boobs"

*sidenote while I'm joking Superman* I dont know which thread mentioned the 3' Superman but I saw that thing yesterday. Big ass brick. 3' tall and it doesn't have knee or elbow joints  :tdown

You know, I'm thinking Hasbro said that they planned to do just that. I think they mentioned that at last years botcon. Either way, I do like the looks of that Megs. Hope he comes out.

that thing's way too meched out and anime looking IMO... it's got the typical "robot samurai" look going.

and BTW Hasbro is concerned about the success of the Transformers brand overall. It's been one of their most popular and lucrative franchises, and they are not going to be cavalier about how they handle it with something as important as a big-budget, high-profile feature film. This is a huge opportunity for them and I'm sure they'll be treating it as such.

Just wanted to throw this out here:

We know that non-consumer car Alternators can't be 1:24 scale, as they'd be too big. I mean.. at 1:24 scale jet would be scary.

But the M1A1 Abrams? If it were Alternators scale, in alt mode it would be 13" long, 6" wide, and 4" tall. (Wikipedia dimension listings)

I was also looking into whether or not Hasbro could get the contract to produce them, and found out that they are made by General Dynamics, specifically the Chrysler defense division. GD also makes a ton of subs, and the F-16 fighter (so close, yet so far).

... Damn, www.generaldynamics.com is a sparse website.

well, i'm just not sure how the kids would react to toys based on the movie designs. they're just not used to tf toys being relatively realistic. at the very least, Hasbro might give the toys brighter colors.
