The box art has additional paint decos on the shoulders and shins.  It helps a LOT.  I'm wondering if the toy is an unfinished test shot, so the final version will look better.

 

And I know I shouldn't be shocked by this anymore, but WTF.  Compare the robot modes of Alt Camshaft and Windcharger (Overdrive) with their G1 counterparts.

Is it just me, or would Overdrive have been the better Acura and Camshaft the better Honda based on their transformation schemes?  Just taking into account G1 Overdrive's chest and legs, and G1 Camshaft's arms?  I mean, neither is a perfect match, but if you're going to do a half-assed obscure homage, they could've made them moderately less half-assed.

And that is my problem w/ the way the line has been going. I miss the real homages that made you immediately identify the new mold w/ a G1 character. This one doesn't look like anyone from G1 at all. And to top it off, now they are using another mail-away figure?!?!?! Gimme a break. I have no interest in this recolor (and don't even get me started on the whole recolor/remold thing).

Give us an Ironhide (I would be surprised if they didn't in the Skids mold), a Huffer in the form of a Ford Ranger or something, Soundwave as a Mustang even, just no more totally obscure ones.

The color looks like all these crappy primer-coat tuners that seem to be all over the high school parking lots around here.  BLECH.

 

I think what we have here is an excellent start at Alt Nightbeat - but it's still really lame to only look forward to a release for its kitbash potential.  :tdown

Well, I was waiting for a repaint because I was hoping the new one would be a con, and I get at least one of every mold.

 

Obviously, this is worse, so I might as well pick up a Prowl.

That is Weird as Hell!?!? It resembles him too. Damn, Maybe I should take a break from the web more often. then again, this being a straight repaint is disappointing. Im gonna call em Bluestreak. The RX8 should have been Gray and named Camshaft. *Grumble* My stomach hurts. Alts are going to hell in a hand basket. Straight up too cheap to pay Takara for new head molds. At least it has the big spoiler. Ugh!

Outside of Tracks' forearm cannons, this is the first box art where the bot is holding weapons.

 

I'm disappointed but I want this guy more than those other repaints.
