How many of you are almost done?

Cool characters? They got the crap beaten out of them by human-Autobot resistance guerilla fighters in New York. And they never merged into Monstructor (not that I would've done much good). I think Galvatron was glad to be rid of them. :P :P

Yeah they kinda bit big hairy ones in the 80s comic.  I got turned onto them after reading MTMTE...

Please do not mention "hoo-hah" again. It is slang for "Night Viper".  :tftongue

is it really?

I actually enjoy the team dynamic between most of the gestalts much more than the gestalt itself. In fact I have every single gestalt and none of them are merged.

I go on spurts with what I want - I stay current on new series though - I learned my lesson passing some of the RID guys - now I want them - so since armada I try to get everything new - u end up paying more later - I esp like jap exclusives we did not get - maybe cause I never saw them as a child - instead of fort max I will get the grand max set - that pretender is too kewl - right now I really want the big powered gift set and I am gonna be happy to be done with galaxy force/cybertron.

I love gen 1 - just in no rush and I already have alot - those bots will always be around - and eventually prices will drop a bit I think - not to mention who knows what will be reissued - I love reissues - I like good condition bots and love retools as long as they don change too much.

I need G1 Mirage for 85 I need the deluxe vehicles deluxe insecticons, swoop and omega supreme. for 86 I'm missing the stunticons, protectobots, sky lynx. I dont care too much for the deluxe vehicles I just want the combiners and swoop, maybe sky lynx too

Great thread and topic.

Been wanting to start and finish a collection of G1 for a long time but still in grad school so money is an issue. But after this long semester, I decided the hell with it and just to start.

A quick question for all of you: What's cheaper and more efficient? To just buy a complete transformer or buy scraps and just going on a hunt for the rest of the parts? Also, what's cheaper, to buy a complete gestalt set or to buy each figure individually?

I know that some figures you will have no choice but to hunt for parts and figures which I think is fun.

Well, it could go either way, but your budget could bear $5 a week for a year ($260) more than a gouge of $150, one time.  Or.. you could save up that $150, but sometimes items just show up when you least expect them.  Like that giant lot everyones talkin about, that I hope STPrime wins.  :)

Honestly - i wouldn't go with one method.  I mean, it's not like you're missing out on their initial run - that was 20 years ago.  If you can plunk down for a full one, go for it.  If you feel like a fixer-upper - go for it.

There are several TFs that I think are cheaper to part together. I parted my Scorponok together over the course of a few years and it cost me a grand total of $35. There are a few TFs I would only get complete. 88 Autobot Headmasters, Groundbreaker, Splashdown come to mind. Predaking also. The parts are VERY easy to come by but people seem to think they are worth $25 a part. For the TFs that have over ten parts, try to get one on the cheap that has MOST of the parts, then hunt down the few you need. Don't pick up a bare bones Cityformer, Omega, Gutcruncher or Roadbuster and expect to buy each part individually, you'll shoot yourself in the foot that way.

My new and improved list is:

1984

Bumblejumper

1985

Ta-da!

1986

Ta-Da!

1987

Pinche Autobot Clones

TM Scourge

1988

Nightbeat R small gun (See...Don't try to part this one together)

Catilla Tail and gun

1989

Various parts for the Pretender classics

1990

AM Prowl missile

What Classic Pretender parts do you need? I saw some at the last collectors market that I went to... (my Ramjet now has missiles!)

Grimlock, helmet and tail

Starscream, Shell and helmet

Jazz---I got a complete one from a chap that I've done some business with on the board. I was expecting the usual c8ish condition that I tend to get from him, but a solid c5-6 shows up. If he will take the return, then I now need the whole thing, if I'm stuck with it, I guess I need the bot and shell.
