Movie Bumblebee

Buddykiller: But remember that VW is now owned by BMW. They have a very prestigious name to uphold and which they certainly do not want to sully by associating any of their vehicles with violence.

One thing to consider:

Movie "product placement" type of licenses tend to go to only a single manufactuer - so if there are obviously recognizable name brand cars in the movie, they'll all be from the same maker.  Think about it, when was the last time you saw more than one car maker featured in a movie?

(Don Murphy once mentioned something that addressed this on his board, but it went almost unnoticed due to the silly size-changing arguements, etc. that normally plague that place.)

but isn't it the company that usualy pays the studio for placement?  i.e. cadillac paid for their car to be used in the big chase in the matrix.  at least thats what i would have thought, i dunno why, if they wanted a kick ass looking car, they'd automaticaly beg caddi for rights.  i'd think that with this movie hasbro and the studio would want a varity of cars and brands, i realy hope we don't get stuck with one manufacturer.

The type of product placement deal will vary on the parties involved and what kind of accord they reach with each other - in some cases the manufacturer will supply all of the vehicles free of charge and other times it pays to place them (which is essentially a form of advertising).  I don't know off the top of my head what kind of deal Cadillac did with the Matrix producers - but look closely, every car in the freeway chase was a GM.

I have the feeling that for this type of movie, as the Autobots in alt-mode features the vehicle in such a huge role, that the studio will probably have to go with a type of deal that excludes more than one manufacturer.  As this seems to be the case with most "big-budget" blockbuster-type films (I think because of law-suits, etc. that studios are afraid to use obvious name brand products without permission).

It may seem silly, but you have to view it like a corporation would - if a VW Bumblebee VW rescues a Corvette Tracks, it implies to the corporate suits that the VW is a superior product; therefore, GM would deny permission to use the Corvette.

PS Goki:  BMW doesn't own VW, I think you're thinking of Mini.

hmmm, i see what your saying, also did a quick wiki and your correct about bmw not owning vw

bmw owns mini and rolls royce

BMW is the world's largest premium carmaker and is the parent company of the BMW MINI and Rolls-Royce car brands, and, formerly, Rover.

i thought somebody had bought volkswagen but i guess not

Oops, my bad. Volkswagen is partially owned by Porsche. (found that on wiki :))

PACERS ROOL j00

For some reason I really like a lot of the worlds "crappiest" cars as much as the greatest. I wouldn't mind driving a restored Chevette or something. :wtf

Maybe a Pacer or one of those little MG's :usa

i have no clue what he will be,  what kind of car did they turn him in to in that devils due comic where they all went time traveling.  wasnt it a grimlin or something sad like that???  I could see them useing that as an alt mode

so far as the karmangia. i searsously doubt they would use that. sence it was made by VW and didnt they already pretty much say there isnt a chance in hell of us getting BB and a bug so why would volkswagen let them use another vw design

Gremlins, sad? I dunno, they WERE available with a factory V8. And I witnessed one (yellow, too) give a very thorough Starscream-slap to a decked out Silverado shortbed once.  Hell, Im a Jeep fanatic and since AMC owned Jeep at one time, I have a soft spot for a few of their cars....

A Vega was as crappy as a Pinto, or a Pacer, Gremlen or even a Chevette. :wtf

Hell it was an economy car, but you could put a V8 in it. If I recall my dad had two and he thought they wern't THAT bad, but they rusted very fast.

Vegas were crappy, but COULD kick ass. Ive mistaken more than a few for '71 Camaros when wearing Cragar SS mags, rear slicks, a pair of racing stripes up the middle and a 383 stroker. Youre right about the rusting, and its a shame since the bodystyle on that car is actually pretty damn slick.

But a pinto, pacer, chevette, etc all look like econo crap. The Grem is so wierd and out there, you gotta love it on some level though...

1970 Volkswagen beetle :tftongue

That lime green color and those porsche style mags give me a special feeling! :drool

I suspect they'd make him something similar to a Pinto, but worse:

A Mustang II!!!!!

There's little in the car world worse than a Pinto pretending to be a Mustang.
