ehhhhhhhhh

I just meant to say that BotCon comics are by definition apocryphal; it doesn't matter who they were written by. Getting a BW writer to do the comics is just a value-adder.

and BTW "value-adder" is exactly what those comics are in the first place. It makes the fanboys feel like the toys they just dropped major cash on are something special, and not just a bunch of repaints.

JUST TO MENTION THAT

I disagree. a story is a story, and if it's meant to continue BW, then it's meant to continue BW and stuff. That's like saying the BW cartoon was a value adder ot the toyline, it wasn't. it was meant ot be a real cartoon and stuff.

Now the G1 cartoon was an obvious value adder. >.> i won't defend it in that context.

huh, your like the poster boy for the phrase "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him listen for once, for God's sake"

and G1 was no more a value adder then any other transformers show in the last 20 years or so

I can't have my own opinion? you notice I said "I disagree" instead of "You're wrong?" I only got direct and stuff with your opinion about the comic because it was so obviously written to be a sequal. you've never heard of continuing the story of somethign in a different format? Wreckers isn't the only comic to continue the story fo a TV show. There's a comic for Angel that does that, for instance. some video games continue the story of a comic(There's a game that will take place Bone's storyline coming up soon, and Ultimate Spider-Man is a direct sequal to a storyline arc in the Ultiate Spider-Man comic and is even referenced in the comic, IIRC).

IMO, G1 was like many '80s cartoons, just thrown together for the sake of ratings. BW, BM, RID, armada(Despite the horribly rushedness of it due to Cartoon Network), Energon and Cybertron all have a story to tell, even if said story is Blot(Armada, Cybertron), just o.k.(RID, Energon), or great(BW, BM).

Opinions are flleting, as are teeth :tfevil  :tflaugh  :wave

Pretty much eery tv show ever made was for ratings

Also the day energon falls into the Good category is the day hell freezs over. It was awful, bad, terrible and ruined Starscream

unless its in the cartoon, its not crtoon continuity, its comic continuity...obviously

The 3H comics are obviously intended to be in the same continuity as the cartoon. A dispute in fan politics (re: Hallit vs Hartmans) does not alter this.

I go by the Law of RetCon (retrospective continuity) - unless later canon has contradicted it, then it remains in-canon. The Law of RetCon is also advocated by Simon Furman.

Bluestreak was referring to the pre-war period of peace. At that time, the Autobots were a political faction, governed by the Autobot Council of Elders.. but it didn't mean that all Transformers that were governed by them were necessarily Autobots too. In fact, most weren't until war broke out and the Autobots and Decepticons began recruiting fighters from the common populace --

Where is this written/said?  If it's official, I'll go with it.  I'd just like to know.

Your mum said it. Nah, I'm kidding. d: It's stated in G1. The replacement of civilian government on Cybertron (Autobot Council) with military leadership is portrayed in "And There Shall Come A Leader."

As to my original idea, I still see no reason that IDW can't make Big Convoy the Beast Era Prime.  The only information we currently have on him is from Japanese continuity, and it's obvious (as stated earlier about Magmatron and his troops in The Gathering) that they aren't fallowing Japanese continuity.  ...again, if he makes more than a cameo appearance at all.

... it's just a thought...

First of all, Magmatron and Razorbeast's troops do NOT appear in BWII or BW Neo. You do know that Snarl is NOT Tasmania Kid, B'Boom is NOT Apache, Spittor is NOT Diver, Bonecrusher is NOT Bighorn, Manterror is NOT Mantis, Transquito is NOT Big Mos etc. Just because they're based on the same toy moulds, does not mean that they are the same character. After all, Cheetor, Tigatron and Shadow Panther all share the same mould, yet we know that they are not the same character. Ditto Blackarachnia and Tarantulas, Waspinator and Buzzsaw, TM2 Cheetor and Tripredacus Agent, Rumble and Frenzy, Skywarp, Starscream and Thundercracker, Nightflight and Airwave, Laser Optimus Prime and Black Convoy (RiD Scourge) etc. Transformers is full of reused moulds and repaints... if we're going to start regarding each mould as the same bloody character, then we're in troule! d:

RE: Transtech

LordMadhammer, I think an idea of a Transtech comic is pretty neat. I'm not sure how well it would sell though, considering the limited commercial appeal of Transtech. *shrug* But hey, I'd buy it if they made it.

Although I would rather they left Optimus Prime and G1 Megatron alone. G1 references are nice, but I liked the fact that Beast Wars/Machines was its own new story... G1 is over... move on. :)

I have to agree in general.... Hasbro is a toy company, not a television production company. Obviously they'd like the Transformers shows to be good, but only inasmuch as they create excitement for the toys & other merchandise. I honestly believe it was serendipity that led Hasbro to pick an animation company for Beast Wars that had something to prove... Forward and DiTillio have said that Mainframe's dedication inspired them as well. But let's be clear on Hasbro's intent -- at the time, Mainframe was a no-name production house. They weren't going for the top dollar production value-type show, it just happened that Mainframe made it so.

And most of the positive and lasting reputation that the Transformers shows have is as a result of Beast Wars. It legitimized G1 and took the brand in a direction it had never gone in before (i.e. a good show and something not cheesy and lame).

Yup, I'd agree with that.

Although IMO G1 was already legimitised in the Marvel Comics. And again, Hasbro was blessed with Marvel's dedication to that comic line -- as Marvel said on the front cover of their last issue... "#80 IN A FOUR ISSUE LIMITED SERIES" :D

First of all, Magmatron and Razorbeast's troops do NOT appear in BWII or BW Neo. I guess you missed my point.  Magmatron's troops are NOT Archadis, Bazooka, Crazybolt, Dead End, Guiledart, or Hardhead ether (who were his troops in BW Neo) they ARE the American versions of BWII toys (scratch that, revers it) that never appeared in any continuity, American or Japanese.  So it's safe to say they are NOT using the Japanese continuity for these books, but that they ARE writing a totally NEW story to fit these rather cool characters into the American continuity.  So, basically they could do whatever they want, because there is no president for these characters in the US, or anywhere else (excluding Magmatron).

But it still does NOT contradict BWII or BW Neo. So what if Magmatron commanded a different team of Preds before BW Neo?? You could kill off his entire team, but so long as Magmatron survives and returns to his original time and place, then Japanese BW is not conflicted. All Magmatron needs to do is not get killed and return home to resume command of the Predacons we see in BW Neo, and we DO see some of the other BW Neo Predacons on Cybertron during the flashbacks, such as Dead End.

And these characters are NOT the American versions of their Japanese counterparts. B'Boom is NOT the American version of Apache. They are two complete separate characters. Read their tech specs!! They are NOTHING alike!!

This is vastly different from comparing say Airazor vs Airazar or Override vs Nitro Convoy - despite having different genders (which is a moot issue on a genderless robot), these are clearly the same characters. Canon (including their bio & tech specs) portrays them as being the same.  Canon does NOT portray Spittor and Diver as being the same character - quite the opposite, in fact. Not only do these characters differ from their counterparts in Function and personality profiles, but they also vastly differ in their technical stats, such as Strength, Intelligence, Speed, Rank, Endurance, Firepower and Skill. Some of them even differ in faction! Manterror is a Predacon, Mantis is a Maximal (albeit leader of the Insectron subgroup) - they also have different colours. B'Boom and Apache look identical, but they have completely DIFFERENT personalities... B'Boom's tech specs describes him as fierce, unpredictable, hard to control and driven by a savage fury. Apache's tech specs on the other hand describes him as a cool, composed albeit slightly eccentric authority figure. B'Boom and Apache are complete OPPOSITES as far as their personalities go!!

Just because two characters look similar or look the same, does not mean that they are the same character. After all, in the world of the Transformers, things are often... MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE! :D
