It's like if they name a bot that transforms to look like Bumblebee but they name him Bumper instead. If they get the beetle, they can go back and name em BB.

 

It's the mainline they avoid the Autobot Whoever. Alt Hound is also Autobot Hound and there was an Autobot Ratchet in Universe.

:pfx  Most of the other 'Bot Alts are spot-on, this would leave HasTak's options open.

Remember that "Meister" was an easy alternate solution for "Jazz" that the fandom knew. Skids' name is Skids in the Japanese cartoon same as it is in the American one. So why would they have picked an unrelated name over "Autobot Skids"?

 

As for Mirage, it could simply be that the car company that owns that is using a different form of copyright to hold that name, or that they either allowed Hasbro to use it or that Hasbro felt they could get away with saying a toy was a different case than a car. Maybe Hasbro's just testing the strength of the copyright to see if it applies to toys and cars the same. Alternatively, it could just be a temporary name that they're using until they get a final name cleared. We DID only just see the prototype at Botcon, remember.

Mitsubishi quit selling the Mirage years ago, so there shouldn't be a problem.

 

Jazz is a current Honda model, so there probably was a problem with that.

Probably because EA has an exclusive contract, they throw around money like no tomorrow for those.
