Don Murphy update - movie SPOILERS

I'm more concerned about Jazz's voice myself.  The late Scatman Crothers had a one of a kind voice, and I'm not sure if anyone else can pull off Jazz's voice quite the same way.  Sure, you can get some random hip-hop star like Jay-Z or whoever to do it, but it just won't feel the same... :tfsad

Yeah, when I was a kid I always wondered why Jazz never spoke in Season 3. Then I found out that Scatman Crothers died in 1986 I believe. The guys in Maxim magazine had said something about him dying and that the voice of Hong Kong Phooey was gone. I was like Hong Kong Phooey? What are these guys smoking?!?!? He was Jazz. It was obvious that the Maxim guys are from the wrong era.

But yeah, getting a voice for Jazz will be dificult. Scatman left some hard shoes to fill.

Samuel L. Jackson

Sam would be a good fit. He was great in The Incredibles and awesome in Pulp Fiction.

If the Movie Jazz has some soulful phrases like Cartoon Jazz, that would be "Kool & the Gang."

Ill tell you who would be a good Jazz. He's a good successor to Mr. Crothers, he's obscure enough that everyone wont think of him when Jazz speaks as in the Isaac Hayes/Samuel L Jackson proposals.

The guy who plays the guitar on the intro to Chapelle's show. I was watching the DVD the other nite and it hit me that that guy would be perfect. He sounds a bit like Ray Charles.

That's a great idea... even better than when I suggested it a few pages back... :wave

Oh, and look who posted right after that post... :tflaugh

It's all good, man. Just picking on you... obviously I agree with you though! :thumb

Well, we should know who the director is in about 3 weeks, so then's the time to really start pushing voice talent I guess. It'll be the director's call who he or she wants to work with...

Don't mentioned fans having lot visits and the very vague possibility of being extras a couple of times, but I doubt anyone's holding out for it. Again, pimping Mr. Optimus Prime for a role is probably going to be down to the director's choice.

i quite like the idea of the dinobots stealing the matrix and it's their ship the autobots are looking for. they could maybe even take thje comic approach with the dinos and have them trapped somewhere. i think the sequels will need some dinos

I maybe the only one, but I dont want a Jazz... I really want that character's name to be Meister (not a takara snob) when the alt was announced, I really fell for the name, plus if the resulting toy (what I am really concerned about) has to be named AUTOBOT JAZZ that is gonna suck balls

Meister(noun)::one who is knowledgeable about something specified -- often used in combination

He could have that name and still sound like my grandad... which btw has ALWAYS been creepy for me, I loved scatman, but growing up around old black guys, seeing one transform into a porche was always kind of odd. I would love for meister to have a voice of a hip hop guy* or someone like sam jackson or Don Cheadle. Jamie Foxx wouldnt be terrible for that role but after ray and the pending miami vice, I am not gonna wanna see or hear his ass for a long time

*not Will Smith, a real Hip Hop Guy, from the underground, like Black Thought, Mos Def, or Q-Tip, those three have acting credits and were actually good at it, without selling out hiphop

Oh well, must not seen it. Either that or you went back in time to post that before me so that you could post this message. I mean, that kind of plot seems to be what Hasbro is using to explain some of their stuff....

What if the old Autobot leader crashed on Earth, and the Autobots in the movie have to locate the ship to recover the matrix. Like someone said earlier, Optimus wouldn't be a prime yet, just a warrior.

You totally lost me there because I'd hate to see any cRappers get the Jazz gig.

I could live with Will Smith because he can act (>IMO<) and could wear the Autobot insignia without hypocrisy. He has an image few rappers can live upto (and I so hate to play the "role model" card).

If Will is a sell-out then I say all power to him because hes probably inspired me more than any rapper ever could.

I have similar discussions with my cousin and we'll never agree but I'd still buy him a beer, so I'm guessing we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

PS: I think "I Robot" showed us that Will can have dark thoughts. He didn't act his pants off but we saw something different IMO.

Eminem for Starscream! *not*

For some reason, you just made me think of Redd Foxx as Jazz. Now there's something that'll keep you up at night...

The thing about making Jazz a hip-hop guy is that it's going to reek of "oh aren't we trying to be hip by having a rapper/R&B guy as one of the voices." To me that falls within the "celebrity voices" thing and I'm not crazy about that. If he could be cool and laid back in an understated way, I'd be cool with that.
