Don Murphy update - movie SPOILERS

Now back on topic, having the matrix on Earth and the Autobots having to find it so they can get a leader and having Prime just be a soldier at the beginning is plausible.  I just think it steers a bit too far away from most of what all Trans Fans think of in terms of G1.  I believe that Optimus Prime having the matrix already, and that the reason they wind up on Earth is because they had to look for energy or had to stop a threat to Cybertron and were attacked by the Decepticons while trying to do this is a much better explanation.  Granted that is my opinion, but I'm sure many others share this opinion too.

Yeah but (and I hate to say this) this isn't G1. I mean, it is and it isn't. I think if the story is going to be a new story worth telling, then it needs to be new. Not "all" new, but just new. Creative. I'm all for a different take on the G1 mythos, personally. I think it would just be a waste to spend all this money on a film that'd essentially be a MTMTE retread.

I agree Madhammer...I agree and that I'd like it not to be MTMTE all over again, but at the same time I don't Optimus Prime acting like a crap leader who can't fight for crap or something like that. Do I expect that, not at all.

I'm just hoping for an entertaining, well-written, well-directed film with atleast decent acting and good characterization.

Yeah, I think there are basic things that you can't change without fundamentally altering what "The Transformers" is. Just like with Spider-Man - you knew to expect that Peter Parker would be a brainy nerd who doesn't really see himself as a "superhero." Same with Wolverine, Magneto, etc. in X-Men. It's just part of the characters' personalities, which made them so appealing to so many people.

Anyway we all know that the part of "sucky G1 Autobot leader" has already been taken. :tfgrin

I have a problem with what was said, although there are somethings inherant amongst all primes (sans rodimus) and primals. each megatron/galvatron we got was a different guy, from alt mode to personality... which megs do they choose...

MEGS is the antigonist and therefore the MOST important character in the film, if he isnt evil, and smurfin people and robots up, who cares...

using that as an argument, TRANSFORMING is the most important aspect of the film not wether there is mass shifting tapedecks with telepathy. I have been watching g1 in my spare time and it really did suck, but the toys rock hard, even though they are bricks. It would be nice if John strayed from the foibles of G1 and use thier creative genii to take our hobby to the next level...

but that is my opinion, please reserve all flams to PMs

I totally agree with you Smith^2. I want to see a bunch of F'in people get stepped on, blew up, run over, etc. I've said it many times before. Humans are fodder for a Decepticon Heel. :thumb

ON WITH THE CARNAGE!!!

Anyway, you said it before, seeing a huge 40 ft robot standing in front of you would be scary as heck. That should definitely come across in this film. The fact that there are huge and could crush you with no effort at all.

Regarding the Matrix on earth- and humans tinkering story - and I really dont know if its fact or roumor, but....

I have heard a lot of complaints about this concept. And I agree that the idea of the matrix being on earth sounds lame, with one possibility that i have not seen mentioned as of yet:

What if, in the 3 billion years or so that the Ark was burried under mount st helen - the Matrix was discovered. Maybe it was jetisoned before the crash - maybe the TFs were split up like in the DW comic. And thus the "search for the matrix" only takes place *after* the TF's are re-awakened....

I am not saying i do or dont want this just throwing it out there....

I know this is a double post, but its two seperate subjects in this thread, so:

re: Soundwave and his minions:

We have been debating Soundwave's Alt mode - what seems to be the general concensus, is that he should be a communications vehicle (like a news van) and he should have minions....

I like the idea of Lazerbeak and Ravage being part of the equipment (i really like that 4wheeler-scooter that someone here has as his sig.)

But i am curious, regarding Rumble/Frenzy (or only one if thats the case) - what do people think of a Pretenders/Terminator approach?

I know that pretenders are pretty universally hated - and the idea for the mainline of TFs being pretenders was lame. But with Rumble and Frenzy they are about the right size, and with SW being a news van, they would then be able to be "inside" of him. And it would add a layer to the "Robots in disguise"

So what do you guys think?

I think that Optimus not being a Prime in the beginning opens him up to character development. If he started out as a seasoned warrior and had the characteristics we all love, it would go over well. The climax of the film could have the Autobots beaten and Optimus near death caused by a selfless act to save a human/ group of humans/ mankind (Whichever). The matrix (or whatever name now issued to it) could see the nobility and honour in Optimus and choose him as leader. In the end, the Decepticons are vanquished, but not destroyed, and the hero for a new age is born. Woohoo. (Yes I like 80's over the top wording) Anyways, at least it would show the matrix to be more than just a Unicron killer.

One of the ideas that was floated and seemed pretty popular was that Rumble and Frenzy could end up being motorbikes and Ravage, as my sig shows, an ATV/quad bike... They could still be carried within Soundwave and would be human sized when they transformed...

One the subject of the matrix, we knew a few months ago that the Transformers are on earth because we have the matrix... We also know that -some- Transformers crashed onto earth in prehistoric times. So the idea is there the Autobots could have crashed aboard the Ark and the Decepticons may follow later, or that the Matrix was brought here by a small group. maybe the Dinobots or... well, there's lots of alternatives.

We know there's no Dinos in movie one but it's possible the Transformers that will BECOME dinos may feature.

Or that could all be so much hot air.

It's all still debatable at the moment but there's more to it, seemingly, than all the transformers ariving in present times chasing the matrix.

Redoing MTMTE is a safe way of doing the film. People who grew up with the original TF series will see it and think it's great. I'm not talking people like you or I that are diehard transfans, but guys and girls like my brother, or your brother possibly(you know what I mean). Having a movie that appeals to all the people that grew up in the 80's is a huge possible fanbase. The kids nowadays will want to see it regardless cause it's Transformers.
