I'm debating whether to scratch build the treads from styrene or use actual rubber treads from a tank or something.

I say go for the rubber treads. Just that much cooler, yannow?

Valandar does have a point, rubber treads would be cooler.

that's the beuty of Don's work...since he makes figures himself, his designs CAN be made! :D

Update:

Finished the basic structure for the hip joint, thigh, and lower legs. Those and the shoulders are mold casted for symmetry (and in case I screw up and can mold cast more). No sanding and no details added yet. And some parts are held together by tape for now. I want to see if all parts look proportional before proceeding with details. First few pics are bot mode. Last pic is basically what alt mode would look like. Again, crits/comments much appreciated. Thanks.

Looks awesome so far. Just one thing though. Doesn`t WW Grims legs in alt mode jet out and down like Onslaught`s from G1`s Brutcus` torso rather than fold behind the thighs like Alt Grimlock`s? Meaning the front and rear treads would be in more of an allignment? Not sure, it`s just thats what it looks like from the pics of Grim from the WW comic.

You are correct. However, I have not added the rear treads yet. What you see there is the leg portion without the rear treads on the side. Once the rear treads are added, it should align with the front treads. though it won't stick out as much and its not suppose to stick out as much anyways as seen in the 10fingers pic.

Retarded me I didn`t notice the rear treads not being on there yet. *punches self in sac* Anyway, have you thought what you might use for his head. Modify an existing or brand new sculpt?
