First things first, obtain 1:24 scale models(plastic) of all six Devastator pieces.

Second, research the transformations involved and plan out the transformations for each character and how they combine.

Third, acquire the parts for building each individual robot.

Fourth, go over the design and make sure you have a proper idea of how linkages are going to work. Perhaps a socket such as the one E. Prime has would work best.

Fifth, begin construction.

Sixth, While constructing, plan out the extra pieces, such as fists and head, where to put them, how they're stored, and begin building those.

Seventh, include any steps I may have missed.

Eighth, Blast you, because now I'm going to build a Devastator like this before I work on my other big project.

Not trying to be a passimist nor a dick here, but how much experience do you have building toys/models from scratch or simply in kitbashing?

Your project, though sounds great, seems too overwhelming. A bit over the top. Maybe you have a vast background and knowledge in these type of things, but if not, I suggest you attempt something easier.

My 2 cents

no, FG. It's a legitamate question.

I have been building models for the past 25 years; out of 1,234 projects, 132 of them were transforming robots. I admit this will be my first gestalst.

My plan is to create each individual robot with all the connection and Devastator robot parts contained within each constructicon. I do not believe this is impossible, but it will take some figuring. For Devastator's legs, I envision that the thighs will be composed of half from both Scrapper, Mixmaster, and Long Haul. (Long haul will provide the pelvic joint and the upper thigh, while the other two will provide the knee joint and the lower thigh.) Scavenger and Bonecrusher will contain the forearms and the fists. (I plan on them being contained within their bodies in some fashion), and Hook will contain Devastator's head.

for the linkages themselves, I plan on using something that will allow for both solid connection as well as mobility. I was thinking something along the lines of a ball and socket joint that can "pop-out" fort the arms, while a solid interlock mechanism mid-thigh would work for the legs. Connectivity between Hook and Long Haul is pretty elementary.

As of yet, I am currently working on the drawings for the plans. (for reference to my plan-making skills:

I do thank you all for you input and your help (especially you splendic; thanks for the devastator link!), and I will be asking for advice when needed. I plan on posting my progress on this monumental task regularly, but it may be some time before I have pics to post. I don't have a digital camera.

One last thing: if anyone else feels like doing a project like this, the go for it!! This is especially for you, OMEGAPRIME1983: pick a project and do it! Being brave doesn't mean not being scared, it means doing what needs to be done DESPITE your fear. I'm scared to death attempting this, but I'll never know if I can do it or not unless I try, and neither will you if you don't. So just pick something you want to try, and run with it.

I'll try to keep all of you posted.

until then, laters.

Sounds awesome. Experience is the damn best tool doing a project like this. I have no concerns now, and can't wait for you to update us on your project :D

Your welcome, Wraith. Wow. I am blown away by the fact that you have done over 1,200 models/projects, and over 130 "transformers". It seems like you certainly have the credentials for such a project. Now, don't forget to make enough for everybody! (or at least just you and I!) ;)

Seriously, though. Keeps your plans and drawings for everybody else. God knows HasTak will never give us such an amazing Gestalt.

I am really intrigued also. Please keep us updated as this progresses

I agree.... keep us updated when you make some progress.

Will do.:D I just wish I had a digital camera, so I could post some of my work. I know how it must sound : I say I have that many under my belt, but can I prove it? Well, hopefully, I'll be able to get one soon.

In the meantime, I'm about halfway through designing each constructicon. As expected, one of the biggest obstacles is the inclusion of the Devastator connectors and periphery (arms, fists, thighs, ect) into each constructicon. For Scavanger and Bonecrusher, the best I can devise so far is to make the fist/ forearm unit a part of their respective torsos that either slides or unfolds out during transformation. Either that, or work it in as some sort of a backpack.

As for Scrapper, Long Haul and Mixmaster, the thigh is a little tricky. My plan is to have both the leg robots and long haul contribute half of the thigh each. The exact way to do this is the hangup, as where the thigh parts will come from on the individual pieces. Long haul's truck bed can easily disguise the thigh sections he'll contribute, and on a side note, he might be able to contain the entire thigh/waist assembly. maybe all Scrapper and Mixmaster will have to contribute is knee sections.(perhaps the entire wiast/thigh section can be self-contained, ans serve as part of LH's legs.)

Hook is an interesting challenge; where Devastator's head will be adequately contained is a puzzle indeed. So far, Hook's transform prevents me from sticking big D's head in the middle. perhaps the head can unfold from the body in some fasion. (hook's torso, and swivel into place.) this remains to be worked out.

If anyone gets any ideas, please post them. Who knows; if this goes well, we'll see where the next project will go!

It has already been done, and pretty fantastically at that. Might wanna use this as a model...
