Was Galvatron really superior to Megatron?

Recommended Posts

When Unicron turned Megatron into Galvatron, we're all led to believe that he was "suped up". In the Marvel comics, Galvatron kicks Megatron's but. However, Megs was still zoning out from being linked with Ratchet at this point. If Megatron was functioning at 100%, and Galvatron wasn't nuts, who would have had come out ahead? I was thinking about this yesterday, and wanted to see what everyone else thought.

Im not into the comics but I think Galvy was supposed to be stronger then Megs. Maybe his madness is in part due to the lack of Unicron's presence. Because he didnt show signs of being insane until AFTER Uni was destroyed. He even did the logical thing and suggested that he and Rodimus work together before being overridden by Unicron. Megatron is dangerous enough but part of that danger lies in his intelligence. Galvatron is a different kind of dangerous because he lacks the sanity to not be a loose cannon. I think it evens out a little.

Galvatron was significantly stronger than Megs, and really, just about every other Transformer from the "present" timeline. Anyone who's read the UK comics can have no doubt on this point; Galvatron gets more opportunities to flex his muscles there, and he's insanely powerful.

Now, true, the UK Galvatron is from the current timeline's future, while the Galvatron that fights Megatron aboard the arc is from an alternate timeline. But I think we can assume that those two Galvatrons are roughly equal in power because both were written by Simon Furman, and alternate universe Galvatron seemed pretty impressive on his home turf in the alternate universe.

In fact, if there was really any doubt, and leaving the UK series out of it, let's compare resumes up to the point where they had the fight:

Galvatron: Won the war for the Decepticons, defeating and killing nearly every Autobot on Earth.

Megatron: Got his ass kicked by Shockwave, the Predacons, and Ratchet... twice.

C omic book Galvatron is relatively unknown to me, so I can't say.

I have no doubt that strength and powerwise Galvatron is far beyond Megatron. Hell in the show he was blowing up planets.

In a battle of wits, I'd have to say Megatron. Like it was pointed out already. Galvatron had his head messed with to much between Unicron and lava baths he was loosing it.

Another key factor that was messing with him was his memory of being Megatron which is just one more factor in his favor.

So basicly, arm wresling, I'd say Galvatron. In a game of Connect 4, Megatron.

I still think prime can kick their a$$ anytime :)

Yeah, but Megatron survived for millions of years (ignoring the crash on earth). Galvatron survives for, what, 20 years, then gets pwned by getting tangled up in Hook, Line, & Sinker's net that they throw over him.

Also, Megatron could lead an army. I don't think Galvatron was as effective.

If Megatron was turned into Galvatron - how could they fight one another??

Simon Furman found a way.

Galvatron travelled in time back, twice - firstly in "Target:2006" and again in the Time Wars. In both sagas Galvatron encountered Megatron and was careful to avoid killing Megatron in case it might cancel out his own existence. Of course, this was entirely needless as the Transformer he _thought_ was Megatron was indeed Megaplex - a clone of Megatron constructed by Straxus (who himself believed that he was the real Megatron). Yeah, I know he was never actually called "Megaplex" in the comics, only ever Megatron. I call him Megaplex -- it's a personal thing to distinguish clone Megatron from the real Megatron (and it also makes my e-Hobby Megaplex toy more canonical in my eyes :D).

Galvatron II was plucked from an alternate universe to serve present-day Unicron in the universe of Earth-91274. He battled Megatron (the real one!) until he came to his senses and realised that he was potentially jeopardising his own existence -- and that he needed to actively keep Megatron alive.

However, Megs was still zoning out from being linked with Ratchet at this point. If Megatron was functioning at 100%, and Galvatron wasn't nuts, who would have had come out ahead?

In Target:2006 Galvatron did defeat a fully operational MegatronMegaplex. Despite being a clone, Megaplex was identical to Megatron. The only thing that prevented Galvatron from killing Megaplex was the fact that he thought that Megaplex was Megatron and thus was afraid to cancel out his own existence by killing him. He did royally kick his arse though.

Hook, Line & Sinker were forged by Unicron for the specific purpose of retrieving Galvatron II. Also, they smashed his head in before netting him! It's not like that itty bitty net they threw on Chosen One in "Kung Pow: Enter The Fist." ;)

Galvatron _was_ an army! Not even the combined power of the Wreckers, Decepticon Mayhem Attack Squad and Powermaster Optimus Prime were able to stop him.
