Fans Project Bruticus Upgrade sets up for preorder on BBTS

thats to much for me to read at this level of sobriety.

Here's what I'm taking from it, I have 2 battle rollars now the GoW2 set. While the main guns are mostly the same, the add on pieces are new as well as the light piping which is electric and awesome :mwahaha

Both Rollar and the guns use interchangable pieces that aren't limited to just one combination.

When it comes to custom guns, this site is my example of custom pieces and fair price

http://www.marauderinc.com/servlet/StoreFront

Sure they aren't TF sized, but look at the cost + intricasy, as well as bulk lots....

Same kinda plastic.

Then I also have to ask you to clarify your possition. You asked for examples of items that use a high volume of raw material but sell for less. I provided 3, 2 with picture. I can offer more, but without picture proof, it seems a shallow case.

When it comes to casting on trees, don't go overboard, we've seen the pics and have all slapped together a Gundam or 50. There's really nothing overboard going on here, especialy with the extra parts.

It seems your switching often between matereals to intricay in engeneering.

If thats the case Battle rollar is the perfect example of a good custom figure since it has many moving parts, and is also engineered with near limitless versatility. Also, any "cut away parts" are only done so on the figure to hide pieces that would other wise be stand out in a kibble like manner. Both the robot and alt are nice and full especialy when considering everything the figure is expected to do.

Now I really don't care to argue this point any further. Around every corner, I've made it a point to not knock what I'm looking at outside of price, and that right there is my gripe.

If it's a matter of cost concerning matereals, I've given examples of items that use much more matereal and cost far less.

If it's a matter of intricate design, and engenering, I've given examples of that too that cost less.

That right there is my point, sure this set looks great, but for what it is at the cost, it's a screw.

Defend it as much as you want, I don't care. Just be ready though because this perfectly justified price is only gonna encourage the next thing to cost that much more.

When i brought up the 2 car companies, they literaly are the same people. I've worked in auto advertising for years and can assure that. Don't know if the other company you mentioned is another affiliate, but if you buy an Infity, your getting a Nissan with a fancy name, thats all. My point in that is, OK, we're paying for the name, not the materials(maybe). The kick in the crotch is that the company were buying from can't even use the name :doh

I say just one more thing. I'm having an item made myself. I can't go into details due to legal reasons. I just got back from a social meeting about it. I can say this though with only $28 in the bank, the cost of molded plastic, it's really not that much. When I was told what I was looking at, I ordered a round of drinks in happy with all fear disapated.

Go figure...

Like I said earlier, it appears that we are at loggerheads on the issue of material cost, engineering cost, etc.; there doesn't seem to be much point in trying to push that point forward. That's fine; I don't think either one of us is here to win an argument. :)

Anyhow, I see your point and I do understand it - if the consumers fail to protect themselves from overcharging now, then they open the door to potentially even worse overcharging in future. All I am saying is that:

1. Despite our best efforts to build educated estimates as to FansProject's financial situation, we could be wrong. The organization might be charging at cost (or cost plus estimated development costs for their next project). The situation is only a screw if we assume that it is a screw from the start.

2. Yes, sometimes you have a situation where an Infiniti is essentially nothing more than a more expensive Nissan; but this is not always the case. A painting by Picasso is just paint on canvas; my six year-old daughter can produce the same for a fraction of the cost. Does this mean that Picasso owners are overcharging? Obviously not - there are other factors that make the Picasso valuable. You may not personally appreciate these factors in regard to the work of FansProject; however, others do. If they choose to pay for a higher price, it is not necessarily because they are being taken advantage of; it may be a simple exercise in good old-fashioned supply and demand.

Obviously I have no idea what it is, but - and I say this with absolutely sincerity - congratulations. I am a great believer in the idea that ordinary people should get more involved in the business of bespoke manufacturing. :)

It's good to be able to debate someone positively :thumb

Indeed. A small victory for cordiality in the sea of general unpleasantry that is the Internet; for this, three cheers. :D

I still would like to know more about the kidbash G1 upgrade

http://www.kidbash-store.com/product/bruticus-maximus-complete-upgrade-set

I think it's expensive for what it is too, but still very intresting.

  • Author

The arms on that upgrade make him look like Popeye

it reminds me alot of the Superion kit.

I will agree though, those arms are pretty full.

If it was $45 or so I'd spring for it just to try it, but $70 is to much. I am intrested in the $30 Upgrade for MC Captain America into Roadbuster though. I like that figure and wouldn't mind trying the set out.

It's cool how many upgrade kits there are to coose from at them moment. I hope it's something that stays, but I would ike the pricing on th majority to come down a bit. For example the Knight Morpher figure is a Voyager class figure. But at $79+ I can't afford it with how many other cool thigs are coming out. Which is a shame as I love the damn thing... :(

Yeah, that's what really makes it a lousy alternative to the one by FansProject. Why buy that one when you can get so much more from the set by FansProject?
