Is anyone else annoyed by the quality of the Movie figures?

Recommended Posts

With the television series of Cybertron and Animated, nearly every figure had some respectable qualities about it. Cybertron, though gimmicky, were a return to the more solid construction and feel that a lot of the Beast Wars figures had. Think about it, I'm right.

And Animated has been one awesome figure after another, besides Ratchet, which I can never get to stand on his own, but I love him all the same.

But the Movie figures. . .

The last time the movie figures were on the shelves, I picked at the rack, not really liking anything, but wanting SOMETHING. I made the mistake of picking up Bonecrusher, Brawl, and 1st form Bumblebee, but was pleased with Landmine and Arcee.

Why is it a majority of the movie figures suck? I picked up Soundwave and while he looks cool, he has some major issues. Posing is damn near impossible unless all you want is the imposing "I'm looking down on you" look, and Triple changer? I haven't seen such a lazy mode change since Armada Overload's attack mode.

In short, I'll be happy to see him on screen, but his figure pisses me off.

Are the movie figures purely designed by Hasbro? Does Hasbro suck that much without help from Takara? Or is this them struggling to create figures based on Michael Bay's transforming razor blades?

I honestly want to know.

Honestly, the last run of movie chars from the first flick were disappointing.

This time around, I only have picked up leader OP, Breakaway and Sideswipe. Optimus is surprisingly good this time other than some small details I would have liked from the first movie version(rubber tires and articulated hands/fingers and a gun), but otherwise he is pretty stout.

Breakaway so far has impressed me, quality is good, posing ability is also high, the only downside for me is that I'm not fond of the color scheme, but I'll get past it. The only major thing is that I took apart his cockpit so I could make his head come up further so it did not look like he was shrugging all the time.

Sideswipe I just took a chance on cause his alt mode in all the preview pictures looked shabby, but once home and out of the package, he was tight. As with most people, he's not the most stable due to foot design, but after you play with him for a few, you figure it out. Other than the feet and the latch problem with his chest(which I fixed thanks to Jin), he's a nice figure with a good look.

And lastly, I picked up the legends class Springer and Jetire, and as with legends class, they are fun and simple but enjoyable.

Also I would like to say, it's nice that the movie figures I have picked up from the new line actually have more of an elongated look, that being having a torso and abdomen area instead of looking like an upper torso was just planted on a pelvic region and sent on their way. It improves the aesthetic of those bots that have a semi humanoid form.

Beyond those, I guess it depends on the interest of the buyer and the dice roll known as Quality Control.

Is Animated even being shown in Japan? I don't recall seeing any Japanese packages of Animated figures. So I guess the Animated figures, which you love entirely, are purely made by Hasbro, who you say sucks..... BUT then again, I don't really know and don't care who makes them so long as they are being made.

I didn't say Hasbro sucked, I was asking DO THEY SUCK without help. Lets try and keep this a friendly conversation please, since I'm honestly curious about the huge quality difference between Animated figures and Movie figures.

Wasn't Cybertron Downshift designed and marketed entirely by Hasbro? That's a fabulous figure in my opinion, so I know from experience that Hasbro is capable of designing a good transformer. That said, the movie figures are purely in Hasbro's hands, right?

no, takara started TF, so their hands are in everything, you are getting designs from both spectrum....

just like the g1 movie was made and marketed by marvel and sunbow, the japanese are the ones that did the animation, direction-design and focus, so to answer your question, takara and hasbro have to get together before they release robots....to make sure the contracts stay on que.....and quality is different for each line if you hadn't noticed...the bt/alt line is comparison to the masterpiece level, so.... i guess it is all opinion

Razor blades, that's a new one. I prefer piles of scrap, but doesn't roll out the tongue the same way, I guess.

Anyway, I thought the process was, Hasbro has idea for toy (or in the case of movie, Bay and the CGI guys), shoots it off to Takara, their engineers figure out how to get from robo-to-alt as depicted by Hasbro, or as close as humanly possible, then toys are produced in a factory in China, resulting in hair-pulling frustration on the lack of QC on these mofos.

Anyway, it's all preference, really. I hate the ROTF toys I've seen so far, but mainly because they stick to the Bay film's design aesthetic.

I don't see what the big deal is ... you don't like the movie line ? Then go with classics and/or animated :shrug

As long as the alt-mode is accurate and the bot-mode is a somewhat well proportioned humanoid I like tham all ! Not sure about the new Constructicons ... they're just machines that transform into another kind of machine to, like MASK :wtf

What I'm buying is not the issue. I am picking up some Movie-formers, but I'm being much more selective in what I pick up. For instance, I just grabbed Voyager Prime, Rollbar, and Ransack, all three of which I really like. I already had Leader Prime from the first movie, but I wanted to pick up Voyager Prime to go with Voyager Megatron when he becomes available. Leader Megatron, however, looks like a fatty fat fat with a thin little tentacle arm and thunder thighs.

I picked up Soundwave because I was seduced by the promise of a "Space Cruiser", a promise which was never delivered. :(

The Animated line is as different from the movie line as apples to oranges. I'm curious as to why these two lines look like two different companies made them, that's all.

Unlike the mess of Animated that fell apart out of the packaging, and then wore down it's own soft plastic, I have yet to encounter a QC issue with any of the RoTF figures I have.

I'm only at about 10, but they are fairing much better then the figures of last June.

My Rampage fell apart in my hands as I transformed him. Im 23, not a little kid, so I wasnt forcing parts and I wasnt trying to crumple him up like a piece of paper. I hate Rampage so fucking much, that if he were a real sentient robot in real life, I'd wedge a potato in his exhaust pipe and piss in his gas tank.

My neighbor got Rampage too, but his didnt have the same problem as mine, so it must be a QC issue.

Ransack's limbs fall off if you so much as look at them (but his bi-plane mode makes up for it).

On the upside, voyager Megatron is beyond pleasing and Soundwave looks awesome. Springer too is neat.

And about your Animated comment, I only had one Animated figure crap out on me: deluxe Ratchet. His legs popped off with little effort, but it took a whole 5 minutes to fix. Other then that, every Animated figure I've bought (and I have a lot) are awesome.
