Is anyone else annoyed by the quality of the Movie figures?

Recommended Posts

"Why is it a majority of the movie figures suck?"

I think it may be a quality v. quantity issue. I would guess that the Chinese workers and Supervisors were responsible for assembling many more movie figs than animated.

Unlike the mess of Animated that fell apart out of the packaging, and then wore down it's own soft plastic, I have yet to encounter a QC issue with any of the RoTF figures I have.

I'm only at about 10, but they are fairing much better then the figures of last June.

My Rampage fell apart in my hands as I transformed him. Im 23, not a little kid, so I wasnt forcing parts and I wasnt trying to crumple him up like a piece of paper. I hate Rampage so fucking much, that if he were a real sentient robot in real life, I'd wedge a potato in his exhaust pipe and piss in his gas tank.

My neighbor got Rampage too, but his didnt have the same problem as mine, so it must be a QC issue.

Ransack's limbs fall off if you so much as look at them (but his bi-plane mode makes up for it).

On the upside, voyager Megatron is beyond pleasing and Soundwave looks awesome. Springer too is neat.

And about your Animated comment, I only had one Animated figure crap out on me: deluxe Ratchet. His legs popped off with little effort, but it took a whole 5 minutes to fix. Other then that, every Animated figure I've bought (and I have a lot) are awesome.

Your lucky then, 80% of my Animated figures are junk. Parts won't stay on, they're loose as hell, and the plastic is grinding and itself to dust.

My Ransack, yeah the arms pop off, but they hold well when you snap them back on. The only figure that I'm hearing anyone realy complain about is Rampage.

Myself, I'm loving the return of Transforming robot toys, could care less if the kiddie crap returns!!!

(no offense)

Guess I was just lucky, I dunno. Ive bought Animated figures from Wal Mart, Target, Navy Exchange, HasbroToyShop.com, BigBadToyStore, eBay and several other retailers. Ratchet aside Ive never had any problems with the line. I dunno why they've been a problem for you. Humidity? Pets? Children? Toys coming alive at night to wage war lol :D

I don't see what the big deal is ... you don't like the movie line ? Then go with classics and/or animated :shrug

As long as the alt-mode is accurate and the bot-mode is a somewhat well proportioned humanoid I like tham all ! Not sure about the new Constructicons ... they're just machines that transform into another kind of machine to, like MASK :wtf

yes devastator sucks but if people don't like the movie toys don't get them then i myself was dissapointed with payload, swindle, brawl wasnt bad just the arms woud'nt stay in the bloody peg holes, landmine's balljoints were loose and protoform starscream will most likely develope gold plastic syndrome and salvage's arm has the same problem as brawl my only complaints. still i love the movie verse toys comics and well i just think the whole thing is a great reboot unlike...RID

The QC and plastic quality seems much better this time around. However, the new toys have the old movie crux of beign weirdly complex and parts having to be force slided against each other a lot of the time.

Examples:

Wheelie's legs take some doing to get over his robotic penis when going to RC truck mode. (Wheelie's awesome)

Leader Prime's chest plates are a royal bitch and require the silver shoulder points to be force slided against the doors. Also, when you lift the cab from the legs, I get the same impression, especially with the grill/front of the hood. (Prime's also awesome.)

Precisely what I do. I even assist the Bayformers collectors by telling them where to find good ROTF stuff, but restrict my buying choices to Universe and Animated.

It would be unfair to single out Animated for QC issues; I've encountered similar issues with Universe. However I've yet to encounter a toy that "fell apart out of the packaging." Most I got were paint app issues, slightly loose ball joints. Worst QC issue was actually the wonky door on my Universe Sideswipe.

But good on you if ROTF is showing better QC than the Animated ones you got.

^ The problem with Animated really isn't a QC problem, it's a problem with the entire line, the weak plastic.

I've found the quality of the ROTF figures to be no better or worse then the figures from the '07 movie. The overall aesthetic of some of them might not be for everyone, but that to me is not an indicator of quality insofar as the individual figure is concerned.

As far as the Animated line goes, I guess I've had the luck of the Irish. I've really had almost no problems with any of them. I've got the same Lugnut problem everyone seems to have (his cockpit is a bitch to keep locked in alt mode). The first Animated figure I ever bought (Voyager Screamer) has a defective hand. I've snapped up a lot more of the same mold that have had absolutely no problem at all...which has been my general experience with Animated. And I fiddle with those toys quite a bit.

On the other side of the rainbow, overall long-term degradation due to the plastic used for that particular line is what some of you are referencing, so that gives me cause for some mild concern.

I've been pretty luck with QC myself. Most of the complains I have are in Animated too. My Starscream was missing his right thumb, my first Bumblebee's shoulder cup for the balljoint broke off after he fell 2 feet (although I've popped on and off thesame arm on the second one I bought and saw no stress marks), and my Oil Slick came with two regular barrels instead of one regular and one chain-flail. Also my Animated Swindle's joints are a little too tight.

My Lugnut's cockpit holds together perfectly in vehicle mode, although a crack appeared in one of his fingers (which I fixed with super glue) and his arms were really loose (I also fixed those).

Besides a couple loose ball joints here and there, I've had great luck with my figures. Hell, even the shoulders in my Aniamted Ultra Magnus only make the transforming sound when I transform him. Not once has that figure made a noise when i didn't want it to.

Back on subject, my ROTF Soundwave works fine. Aside from the fundemental flaw of nothing pegging into anything else, he works fine. All his joints are tight (meaning the lack-of-pegs isn't as much of a problem) and I don't see a single piece of paint that is where it shouldn't be. His legs do like to unclip themselves in alt mode about a mm, but only when I'm fiddling with other parts.

SO far...my ROTF Soundwave is a rag doll and WILL NOT STAND PERIOD. Rampage goes to pieces if I look at him sideways. Ransack is fairing much better than most. Sideswipe and Skids are TOPS for me right now. Am i pissed or annoyed? Not really. Hasbro is as consistent as ever with QC problems. I think they figure if QC problems are going to exist in the ROTF line they might as well make sure they are there for Animated and Universe too. I wish we could go back to the days when TF's didn't fall apart when you touched them. ALSO...I think the cheaper plastics etc. are Hasbro's attempt to keep costs down so they can continue to bring us the toys we demand. I mean lets face it...Hasbro is kinda damned if they do and damned if they don't with us fans.
