Why aren't Alternators original characters?

Recommended Posts

Forget Arcee, Black Arachnia would make a cool Decepticon repaint for the Honda S2000 (a "spyder" is another name for open cockpit/convertible car after all.

I would be fine with some of the repainted/remolded Decepticons as characters like Blackarachnia, BW Inferno... I really dig the Ravage fig, so far. The thing is, the Decepticons look kind of lame it they're just a bunch of car robots. That's great for Autobots, but the Decepticons need more variety, like they had in G1.

Besides, I'm just talking about repaints.

If they have to be G1 characters means crap like Grimlock as a car then the line should never have existed.

You can call that figure what ever you want. His name doesn't have to be Grimlock. It's just a toy. Have some imagination.

Nevermind that he's gray, has Grimlock's head, and comes with a sword and a gun.

I call figures by the name given to them by the manufacturer. If he is called Grimlock he is Grimlock. And since they ruined Grimlock I boycotting the entire line.

Consider this...the Nazi attitude really isn't necessary and it's gonna start arguments in the thread.

My complaint with the line right now is that it feels very "Sketchy" and not grounded enough.

Am I the only one that likes the idea of the Mustang Grimlock? I think it looks really cool

It degrades Grimlock.

If you never realized it, Grimlock is a fictional character. He's not gonna get his feelings hurt by becoming a Mustang. Move along purist, nothing left to say here.

I disagree that it degrades Grim. Is it something completely different than fans were expecting? Absolutely. You may be a Chevy person, you may not be a car person, or you might just look at the situation differently than others. My take on it is that the Mustang was key in starting the "muscle car" craze of the 60's and early 70's here in the US. To many people the Mustang is a prime symbol of power (especially the '67 which the new design is based on), also to many TF fans Grimlock is power personified. Aggressive, angry, brute straight forward strength... To me, the match couldn't be any better.

But what do I know, I'm one of those people that is going to call Meister, "Jazz." :thumb

I agree completely. I was going to make this point myself. :thumb

And I'm going to refer to Meister as "Jazz" as well.

Ya know, I was gonna call Meister "Jazz" too, but the name Meister is kinda growing on me

I really don't care about the connection. The alts are such a goldmine of great figures that I could really care less about the fiction around them. So as long as the toys stay at a high level of quality, call them whatever you want, or connect them to whatever fiction you want.

They're most likely called by G1 names for the same reason that RID, Armada and Energon figures were. The names have some recognition value to them.

Personally, I couldn't care less if they called Smokescreen Billy-Bob and Hound was Sally. They're still amazing figures ...

To be fair, I call figures by what the manufacturers named them as well. Just makes it easier when talking to people about what ones you have or are looking for.

But come on, just because you don't like the idea of Grimlock as a Mustang doesn't discount that there are a lot of good toys in the Alt/BT line. If I use your logic I should be boycotting as well because I'm not fond of Battle Ravage's cat head. :roll
