Why aren't Alternators original characters?

Same here...I grew up on G1...don't need to grow up on it again.

And calling Energon/Armada "Alternate Universe G1" is a cop-out itself. It once again places everything as revolving around G1. I personally don't feel G1 had enough complexity to manage multiple universes...Energon/Armada is simply what is called a series restart. But with that restart, come loss of trademarks and introduction of new characters. It's not an alternate universe, it just exists where G1 doesn't.

Also with Robots in Diguise(I dont need to forcefully call it Car Robots, as i'm not a 14 year old kid who thinks he is the best fan of his age group because he heard of it's japanese name)...RID has loose ties to all the series before it. It is a very light series, meant to be taken lightly...Overthinking RID will just confuse it's characters, haha...

I agree with LM to a point...But I think Alt/BT needs the G1-base to go on. If they introduce completely new characters...so be it, it's off the ground now...time to move along.

BC I agree with you...for once I think, maybe twice or thrice...whatever...point is I agree that Armada/Energon...though I'm not a big fan of the cartoons (I do like what I've seen in Super-Link, though), I like the toylines to certain degrees...particularly the Energon toys.

To me it all has nothing to do with anything else. I call the toys whatever I want and give them the personalities I want and even change their abilities. On a personal note I re-write their Tech Specs and Bios to fit what I want from the toys. Been doing that since Late BW...

Examples: Tow-Line is called Frequency by me sicne he is a communications van and not a hauling vehicle. Armada Prime - I make him a Bounty Hunter named Orion in Energon.

Back to what I was trying to say --- I agree with BC and I think eventually TF's will get almost completely away from G1-Influences, probably in about 3-5 years.

That'll happen when the kids who grew up on Beast Wars begin to come of age and have disposable income. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

I think you're missing out, personally, but to each his own.

Hey...that's my quote....*sigh*...I've been beaten again...

Dang it LM...You show me up at every turn...boohoo *cry* :tfsad

Well I do believe that stagnation is forming and that eventually, 3-5 years, give or take a year or two...TF's will get away from G1-influences, not completely...cause that can't happen.

And I like Homages, but at the same time I get sick of 3 out of every 5 characters being direct Homages, except in Alternators.

And LM you are probably fairly correct: BW will be the next big influence on toys as G1 is now. I would love to see a new series with a Primal character, not necessarily Optimus Primal, but just Primal...with influences based on BW Optimus and given a more feral/wild side-look.

I have problems with robots naming themselves Primal and other things like that. What were the BW characters' names before they landed on prehistoric Earth? Wouldn;t those names have sufficed?

Unfortunately that's what Hasbro did with the names for the original BW characters before the show was created. "Rhinox," "Waspinator," "Rattrap," "Tarantulas," etc., etc. Bit of a giveaway as to what their beast modes would end up becoming. :roll But keep in mind that at least according to the tech specs on those first BW toys, this line was somehow supposed to be more literally connected to G1 (in Hasbro's typical "let's forget that TF:TM ever happened" thinking that gave us G2). That is, "Optimus Primal" really was supposed to be Optimus Prime in a new form (hence the head sculpt), and the same with Megatron. Thankfully Forward/DiTillio came along and got rid of all that nonsense. (Could you imagine how much worse the "TRUKK NOT MUNKY" debate would have been if Optimus Primal really *had* been Optimus Prime?)

the way i see it is that the alt and binaltech universe must be a different one to the original g1 (OBVIOUSLY), but it goes with the dimension therory of reality, something has happened (megs creating that new corrosive) and so time has altered and a new timeline has been occupied.

(if that makes no sence go watch back to the future 2)

bw is linked to g1, they decended from the autobots and decepticons, starscream's spark reappeared and there were even a few incidents involving the ark's occupents
