Why aren't Alternators original characters?

Recommended Posts

Wouldn't it have been better if HasTak had created the Alternators/Binaltechs as brand new characters? That way they wouldn't have been bound by G1 design conventions, and would have had more freedom to make the figures their own, without them being dependent upon G1 in order for fans to fully appreciate them. And you wouldn't have yet another G1 storyline such as we are getting via the Binaltechs.

I think the popularity of the Binaltech/Alternators line justifies their decision to use G1 as a model.

think about the ages... 20+ somethings watched the show back in 84 and now are purchasing cars... its only logical the think thats there the connection began. They are fans and now everthing from the 80's is back (everything returns in 20 yrs when those who knew it now can make it) and of course toy cars (replicas/diecast) work a several ages but it was a smart move pitch the idea with older collectors in mind...

just my opinion.. what the hell do I know... its not like i'm going to buy a ZO6 Vette just because I have one on my desk... but if they ever make a commerative edition read blue tracks - I'm on it ... even if it cost 45,000+

come'on Chevy Please... I'll give you a cookie....

I honestly doubt they'd sell nearly as well as they are now if they were totally new figures with no tie-ins to anything else TF-related. I see your point LM, but I think it's all a marketing strategy :thumb

Off course it would have been cool to see all new characters in the BinAlt toyline but Energon/Superlink is already filling the need rightfully. Remove the G1 concept and you remove the fame of that toyline IMO.

Most adult collectors, much to your dismay, I am sure, LM, collect TF's for the nostalgia tie-ins to G1, whether it be Energon Homages or Alternator Homages.... and Alt are geared for our age group and unfortunatly, you and those like you (rebel scum) are in the minority when it comes to what you want from Transformers.... at least it appears that way to me.

I also think that quite a few of the autocompagnies want names linked to their cars that the adult buyers already know.

I'd still buy them even if they weren't G1 characters but I do think I'd be mad if they were named anything else. The Subaru transformation scheme screams Smokescreen/Prowl/Bluestreak.

I'm happy that these characters got the upgrade that I wanted them to have 20 yrs ago. Now that we have several figures out now though I would be more comfortable with all new characters but why should Hasbro have to pay for new name copy rights?

Well, in all fairness, they do have one Beast Wars Alternator, in the form of the upcoming Ravage....

Well, actually I believe it's an homage to G1 Ravage... the head looks more like G1 Ravage than Battel Ravage. GEEWUNN RULEZ j00!!!!!!111!!!11111!!1111!!!!!
