those are good too. Just so you know, I also make custom waterslide decal sheets. I could put the flames on it, whatever else, and fill the rest w/ faction symbols. They are $20 per custom sheet.

Is a bath really necessary? I just start the painting right off the bat. I don't even work up from different shades of colors. I remove small intricate parts to paint them separately and later go back to do touch ups but thats it. Here's my Animated Inferno, I think he came out alright that way.

I think it can depend on the colour you're wanting to paint, when painting something white or yellow or a lighter colour an undercoat helps a great deal in getting a good finish with less layers of paint i've found.

Washing a model first helps get rid of any oils or mold release that may still be on the plastic which can interfere with paint adhesion.

Im not usually worried about that, since I paint on figs as soon as I open them (I plan ahead :D). Although, Laser Cycle Soundwave and BM Animated Jetstorm are taking longer then anticipated.

IF you're painting them right after opening them, then washing the figure is even more important because they often still have mold release on them from the factory. That's one of the biggest culprits for paint not adhering properly.

I give my figures a rubdown with lacquer thinner on a soft rag. Works wonders. you can see the plastic dull down, it's ready for paint.

The bath will be done on the basis of advice given, but layering up the colours will be done on the basis of....well that's how you're supposed to paint things! I've been painting for too long to just slop on the paint until I get the colour I want.

 

On a sidenote, Sideswipe is a freakin' awesome toy! I think I'll end up buying another one after I've done my repaint!
