The only S3 gang I liked enough to say they could hang with the old gang were Magnus, the Technobots, Terrorcons, Cyclonus, Springer and Arcee

so I'm being asked to choose between a bunch of retards (s1-2)or a bunch of turds? (s3)

 

Well.. atleast I enjoy watching season 1 - 2 .. it is to me, everything transformers was supposed to be in its most basic form. There is not a single thing, imho that redeems season 3 .. it's too painful for me to watch.

 

The only interesting character in s3 though (being this is what this thread is about) to me is Ultra Magnus. IF the writers actually cared enough to write something good, I'm sure they could of done something really cool with this character. For the rest, it's too the sharkticon pit.. even the sharkticons themselves.

If the Beast Wars writers wrote G1 season 3 then everyone would have been all like what season 1, and 2. Then again if that had happened then G1 wouldn't have ended with the season 4, 3 episode opener, and we'd of had Headmasters, and Powermasters series continued here in the U.S.

Provided of course, the show went in that direction. I dunno if Headmasters were a product of the writers wanting to do it or Hasbro pushing them to do it.. as far as I remember, they were clean out of diaclone/microman/3rd party molds at that time.. heh, probably why a majority of the toys took a nose dive as well. :tfevil .. geez I'm on such a negative binge tonight.

 

Seriously dude.. if Larry and Bob both worked on G1 .. even at the start.. we'd probably have a much better conclusive story for our guys... perhaps anyway. This is the 80s 30 minute toy ad era..

I don't care if it was Hasbro trying to push product those 2 could have made anything sell. And yes if they worked on it from the beginning then the continuity would be far more cohesive.

IMO, They shoulld go back to G1, and rewrite the stories, THEN do a new G1 series. But that's a discussion for another day...

 

On this topic, I largely believe that the cartoons were "slaved" to the toy from the start, and that as a result it became more of a push to include as many of the characters as possible rather than quality storytelling. And YES, I agree with you Galzamus: if the BW writers had written G1, G1 would probably be beating the Simpsons as one of the longest-running animated series.

This is kind of a Star Trek: TOS versus TNG question: in my opinion, Transformers season 1 and 2 win because without them season 3 wouldn't exist anyway. Its not that there aren't good characters in season 3, such as Cyclonus or whoever else, but it was more of an ensemble show and none of the characters are as interesting as stand-alone characters to me as the season 1 and 2 characters are.

Oh if only the BW writers had descended from Olympus to write G1...

 

Sorry, I know everyone's high on Forward and DiTillio, but let's not forget that while Transformers was on, they were busy writing HE-MAN. Not to mention the fact that Transformers was conceived as an episodic show and didn't have an ongoing story like BW did. Go back and watch the standalone episodes of BW and you'll find that the writing is of equal quality to G1.

Did any of you guys thought that the main characters for Season 3 like Ultra Magnus, Galvatron, Hot Rod, Kup, Arcee, Sky Lynx, Springer, Blurr, Cyclonus, Scourge, Metroplex, Trypticon and Wheelie was a good as some of the characters from season 1 and 2 not including Optimus Prime and Megatron?
