Batman: TAS wasn't killed off when new Batman flims came out in the nineties, was it?

Batman and X-Men weren't shows specifically created to drive a toyline. Animated episodes may continue running, especially in reruns, during the summer 2009, but I think the Animated toyline will "take a break" to allow the TF:ROTF toys to take center stage.

Not that the franchise isn't totally all about the toys, but I had assumed :animated was created based on the merit that the movie was so popular...

And now that I think about it, there were an assload of Batman TAS toys. It was pretty toy-driven too...but tangent aside.

Animated was in the works before the movie debuted. Remember the stuff about Transformers: Heroes?

The drastic stylistic change from the movie, and the fact that Animated was originally set to debut in January says that Animated was originally designed based on the prospect that the movie and the movie toyline bombed.

AZ's basically correct, my understanding is that Hasbro wasn't thrilled with the way sales declined throughout Energon and Cybertron (compared to Armada, which was very successful for them). They knew they had to do something different from the "anime-formers" - and basically adopted a two-pronged strategy, both of which were very different from the AEC lines. The first prong being the movie, but since they weren't sure the radical designs would sell, they had Animated waiting in the wings as a back-up. (With Animated being produced in a contemporary style to ensure it wouldn't end up as third-class filler for the odd hours in Cartoon Network's schedule.)

well theyve done a good job in my opinion.

OIC

I wasn't sure, thanks guys.

Just snagged Grimlock - He is all sorts of Awesome!

picked up Jazz, Soundwave, and Snarl this morning @ Target on the way to work... didn't see anything much else on the shelves. found a whole bunch of voyagers last saturday. including two grim locks. two SS, 2 optimus in earth mode, one megatron in cyberton shape, and 1 lug nut. 1 prowl and 1 deluxe optimus.. this is seriously the first time i've seen these figures in the south bay...

I picked up Soundwave and Jazz this morning, too.

Snarl looked pretty cool, but I passed on him and Oil Slick, as I'm trying not to be a crazy completist with this line. (Not so sure how well that's going, since the only ones I don't have at this point are Voy Cyb Meg, Lugnut, Black Arachnia, Snarl and Oil Slick :redface ).
