To be honest, if BT/MP had not drawn me back in, I don't know that I would have really ever bought any MOVIE TFers either. I"d have gone to the movie and enjoyed it as much; bought toys for my kids as I do, but if BT/MP hadn't drawn me back into the collection side of it - I honestly doubt i'd have spend money on the new ones either.

:pfx alt smokescreen is the TF that rekindled my love (armada unicron was the bugger that got me looking into other lines after that... BUGGER! :redface )

I've always hated BWs.. as a principle, not story line. Outside of the NAMES, it could have been transanimals - something completely other than TFers.

Umm.. why?

Transformers adapt alt modes depending on the environment that they're in. The original G1 Transformers only transformed into vehicles because they reactivated in 20th Century Earth, vehicles which the Ark's computer mistook for the dominant life form on Earth because it wasn't programmed to recognise organic life. The Transformers did make early attempts to adopt beast modes, but they weren't very successful - e.g.: the Dinobots, alt modes scanned in from dinosaurs in the Savage Land (in the cartoon scanned from dinosaur fossils). The Transformers later began developing technology incorporating organics within themselves, such as binary bonding and Pretenders.

By the time of Beast Wars, the Transformers appear to have perfected the ability to scan and adapt proper organic alt modes. And it wasn't as if the Transformers actively sought them out, per se, they simply acquired them if it suited their needs. Being on prehistoric Earth - at the very dawn of humanity (pre-civilisation) there was no technology for them to scan. The best way for them to adapt was to acquire beast modes. The organic beast modes also served as a shield against the overtly high levels of raw Energon radiation in the Earth's atmosphere at the time (certain raw energies, such as raw Energon or Plasma Energy, is lethal to Transformers but organics are immune, as demonstrated in G1's "The Rebirth").

The fact is that the Beast Wars Transformers transform into beasts because they adapted themselves to an organic world devoid of machinery. You can't really be a robot in disguise by being a Lamborghini driving through a jungle in 4,000,000BCE Earth. (-_-)

Even as a kid, the insecticons and such made absolutely no sense.

So wait... mechanical beasts don't work for you... and organic beasts don't work for you. It just seems like you hate Transformers being anything other than vehicles, which means that if they ever tried to make animal modes, then as far as you're concerned they just can't win!

Also, in the G1 comics the Insecticons were the size of insects in their insecticon modes, so at that size most people didn't notice that they weren't organic insects (they just didn't notice them).

Btw, you know that Binaltech Ravage (the first Alt Ravage) is actually Beast Wars Ravage, and not G1 Ravage right? According to BT continuity, he's captured his G1 self and stores himself in cassette mode in his cassette player (as a form of imprisonment).

AlternatorsRavage(Corvette).jpg

...one assumes that the Alternators-exclusive Ravage figure is G1 Ravage - perhaps he managed to escape from his future self and had himself rebuilt as an Alternator... who knows. Hasbro never bothered to give Alternators a freakin' story. (-_-)

BW Ravage=G1 Ravage. Same character continuity wise.

I still find it funny that you guys are arguing logic over toys and cartoons that never make sense no matter what side you're on.

It's opinions folks! Someone states theirs, you state yours, listen and move on. If someone doesn't like it, then you cramming your argument down their throats won't help them, it will probably reaffirm in their head that they're right.

Who gives a damn if Beast Wars were formatted due to advanced technology (which I thought happened chronologicall before G1/1984?) or if Rodimus Prime is the magical offspring of Optimus Prime or why Hobbits don't wear shoes or why Ninja Turtles don't wear clothes but masks to hide their identities? Are people so stupid that Clark Kent takes off his glasses and he's miraculously someone else? It's just fun, sit back and enjoy it.

Suspend disbelief and enjoy whatever you like and stop arguing. It's all for fun, nobody's getting mad and saying you're stupid...We were simply stating what we did and didn't like.

If someone only watched G1, they probably only watched it for a reason. I personally don't like G1 after Optimus Prime dies in the movie... from there, robots grew beards and turned into silly vehicles, not to mention crazy other things too. It got too far from what I liked about it originally. Some people like the comic continuity, and it doesn't follow the show. Whatever continuity you follow, you can't really go mixing timelines because they don't really work. They may coincide at some points, but are too different to really create a TF canon (although many people have tried).

As far as Alternator Battle Ravage, I swapped the head on mine to an Alyosha KO Swerve head and painted it black and called him Wildrider. As much as I love the original cassette Ravage, which in the show made sense as a sort of pet to Soundwave, I never took Walmart Ravage out of the box.

(I know Ravage's original toy box art says he can talk, and in Japan he can talk, and in BW I guess he talks, and in the comics the cassettes could all talk... I like Laserbeak and Ravage to be animals and not talk... it's how I learned to love them, and that's how I see them.)

With as many bots out there to choose from in the BT/Alt line, I don't see the point in popping animal heads on them or having a car turn into a giant robot jaguar. Where's my blue version of the Civic mold, dammit?

It is very scary that you and I think so much alike MR. I bought Walmart Ravage to complete my collection but I have no desire to remove him from his box. I also prefer that my G1 inspired animals not talk and I never saw a logical reason to put animals in the Binaltech/Alternators line in the first place. The money that was spent on redesigning Ravage into a Jaguar could have been spent creating an Ironhide/Ratchet or Bumblebee/Cliffjumper figure for the Binaltech/Alternator line. Furthermore, I too want my blue Honda Civic Frenzy! Hasbro likes making money and they would make even more releasing Frenzy as an Alternator repaint. That's one repaint I think few would complain about. Maybe we fans should petition Hasbro for its release.

Hey MR, did you ever post pictures of your "Wildrider" custom. He sounds pretty cool.

I'm having a hard time deciding between G1 and Energon. I liked Energon 'cuz of the homages.

I did, but the pics I posted were in the "initial" stages. I never got to finish him, but I got stickers from Reprolabels to put on him (the Swerve LeMans set, new colors though) and then moved out here before applying them, and well, turns out customs are highly flammable.

The head looked good with a red face and a black helmet. I actually bought Swerve this time around, but he's still MISB. I'm waiting on YOUR Stunticon heads so I can fix Battle Ravage again and remove the silly kitty head for the second time. :)

I love that Alternator. While the same character that technically is BW version of Ravage with G1 version of Ravage inside of him. According to the BT story.

Yes but you can discuss opinions in terms of why people hold certain opinions - i.e.: justifications of opinions. It doesn't necessarily mean that we'll agree, but we can at least come to understand/appreciate differing opinions through such discourse.

sgt___york didn't just say "I dislike BW because I just don't like animal Transformers," he said hates the core principle of Beast Wars - and I'd like to know why.

I'm not saying that he's not entitled to hate BW - it's his opinion and he's entitled to it. But I'd like to know more about why he feels that way about it. I'm not opposed to him hating BW, but BW is a franchise that is very widely-loved by the fandom... I very seldomly ever come across people who hate it with a reason beyond just "'cos they're animals," so if he has a deeper reason for hating (not just disliking - but actually hating) Beast Wars for higher reasons, then I'm curious to know why.

And I've presented my reasons for liking BW so that he can address them and throw rebuttals at me. :) This is a discussion forum after all, is it not?

+1 QFT. :pfx

So true. The Jaguar Ravage is incredibly underwhelming by BT/ALT standards.

True. Then chalk me up for the "Generally doesn't like the toys because they're animals" as I never got into the show any. Plus, I was not into TFs at that point, which has a lot to do with it as well. It took the return of Alternators (as a revamp back to G1) for me to get back into them.

I'm sure folks love it, as it is popular. It's fine for people to want to understand why someone else doesn't like something that they do.
