Just Finally Saw Beast Wars now on Season 2

Recommended Posts

Hey guys - be careful with the spoilers - remember that the dude who started this thread hasn't finished watching Season 2 or seen Beast Machines yet! :)

From the very outset of the series we get such great characters. I can't think of another character like Dinobot anywhere.

What about Carnivac and Bludgeon?

There have been traitors who have left their side for the other due to their personalities and how they conflict with the goals of their original team. But Dinobot just joins the Maximals because he pretty much has no choice after alienating Megatron. Even while he's with the Maximals he despises them and there's always friction there, all the way to his heroic exit from the series...

I disagree about Dinobot despising the Maximals.

Even as a Predacon he never really had any personal hatred towards the Maximals and saw Optimus Primal as a worthy enemy whom he respected and honoured - to the point where he was willing to grant him a warrior's death. After defecting to the Maximals, although there were moments of friction, I don't think he ever really disliked his comrades. Just because you might disagree with someone from time to time doesn't mean that you actually dislike them. Who hasn't ever had an argument with a friend? And Dinobot and Rattrap were best of friends (that's all I'll say w/o revealing any spoilers).

I just got done with the episode where Dinobot dies :(

Dinobot truly is my favorite character in the series...to bad he's gone, he was the best warrior the maximals had and largely due to the fact that he was willing to do what the rest were not. He defected from the preds because he thought he was with warriors that had honor. Apparently there was a time where preds were more like Klingons that had honor about battle. Then Megs took over and showed his true colors! Dino saw himself as a true predicon while Megs was just out for himself and the rest were a bunch worthless weaklings. Dino didnt see megs and company as real predicons...

I wouldnt say that Dino bot and rat trap were the best of friends but they saw battle pretty much in the same way...go for the kill, trust no one, everybody lies ect ect ect.....

this created a real tight bond between the two. Remember rattrap believed prime was a weakling and too soft. it seems rat trap was developed to have a greater sense for tactics than even prime. So i am sad to see that rattrap is made into a coward in beast machines since he truly was never a coward in the first place, he just saw the whole battlefield a lot better than everyone else and in that regard his mentality was vary much like Dinobot which is why they made such a great team.

alright now off to finish season 2 and watch all of season 3.

Yeah....

Dinobot: "This is the way a TRUE Predacon behaves!"

Other Preds: "Do you realize you're the only one acting like that?"

Who are they? Are they from the comic?

yes. They're only two of the most awesomest characters from G1. :)

Carnivac and Catilla were originally members of the elite Decepticon Mayhem Attack Squad, but during the Time Wars Carnivac and Springer ended up saving each other's life - and so a warrior's bond was formed between them. Afterward Carnivac and Catilla sought out Springer and the surviving members of the Wreckers and together they formed an alliance called the Survivors.

Bludgeon was part of the new Decepticon Mayhem Attack Squad. Like Dinobot, he also lives by a code of honour very similar to Bushido (called Metallikato). Carnivac once defeated Bludgeon in battle - but he refused to kill him, instead he allowed him to live in defeat thus denying Bludgeon a warrior's death... a fate worse than death for Bludgeon as he would be forced to live with shame.

Bludgeon kills Catilla and Carnivac beats the snot out of him for it

I was only talking about TV characters...

"I can't think of another character like Dinobot anywhere." <--I interpreted the word "anywhere" as meaning from any TF canon. It's certainly not terribly specific.

Predacon.

Also, as Father Time suggested, Dinobot's code of honour was pretty much his own. None of the other Predacons have it. It's similar to Bludgeon in G1 who lived by a unique code of honour (Metallikato) that none others have (Metallikato is defined as a forbidden martial art, so it's not that surprising). Carnivac's warrior bond with Springer was also a rarity.

I wouldnt say that Dino bot and rat trap were the best of friends but they saw battle pretty much in the same way...go for the kill, trust no one, everybody lies ect ect ect.....

Prime?! (o_O)

You're not even up to the episode where Optimus Prime appears yet

Dinobot and Rattrap had a very close bond with each other, despite the fact that they argued a lot. This was first formed in the Season 1 episode "Chain of Command" where Rattrap, as acting Maximal commander, earnt Dinobot's respect. From that moment on Rattrap and Dinobot started forming a staunch friendship between each other. As I said, they did argue and fight a lot with each other, but for the most part, it was all just friendly banter. They're like brothers who just enjoy paying out and hurling insults at each other but it's all just friendly jabbing. But that changed in "Maximal No More" where Rattrap was quite emotionally hurt by Dinobot's re-defection to the Predacons and re-re-defection back to the Maximals. And Dinobot knew that he had not only really hurt the feelings of his best friend, but also violated his own code of honour ("The rodent's words give off the stench of truth.") - hence why we see Dinobot kneeling in Seiza position and attempting to commit Hara-kiri at the beginning of "Code of Hero." And of course, he ultimately redeems himself with his noble sacrifice and glorious warrior's death in battle.

And you will notice that it was Rattrap who most urgently wanted to reinforce Dinobot (all the Maximals wanted to help, but Rattrap was the most insistent). Rattrap was the first to arrive on the scene. It was Rattrap who knelt down next to Dinobot and cradled him - with Dinobot dying in Rattrap's arms. And upon the moment of Dinobot's death it was Rattrap who was the first to stand at attention and salute Dinobot's departing Spark. It was also Rattrap who operated the controls that cremated Dinobot's body (although due to an animation error it's Season 1 pre-Transmetal Rattrap!). And Rattrap's last words to Dinobot was to assure him that they were still cool - that they would be departing on good terms ("Like I said, you're just a slag-sucking saurian, but it's nice to know where you stand") - Rattrap was assuring Dinobot that he had earnt Rattrap's trust again and that their friendship was repaired, thus Dinobot could die without regret.

The close friendship between Rattrap and Dinobot is very well known throughout Transfandom. :)

I really liked Beast Wars and Beast Machines a lot more than I expected to. I even went out and bought tons of BW TFs

but most of those got cleaned out in the great toyshelf purge of 07

I still really like the shows though. and yays no humans

and yays no humans

There are humans in the show, just not Homo sapien sapiens. The show refers to them as hominids and suggested to be post-Homo hominids, which would explain why Megatron was determined to eradicate them in order to prevent the human race from ever existing.

Just finished season 3...and I guess the wars are over!

Yeah I can see how Rattrap and Dinobot are best friends...you're right about that.

When I said that rattrap felt that prime was to soft I meant Primal, that was all in season one.

now after seeing the show I wish I could get the rattrap and dinobot figures. Rattrap Dinobot, blackaracnia and tigerhawk my favorite maximals.

I feel that Tigerhawks vok personality should have carried on for several episodes long (meaning he should have been introduced way earlier some how). Then he became tigertron yet airrazers spark was in him as well, so I was expecting that this guy would have 2 personalities talking; one voice would be airrazors and the other tigertron. would have made more sense.

Ravage was great!

Dinobots very late return was perfect timing. Megs should have known better.

the only thing is that in the end you never got a real sense that it would ever mold into Beast Machines. they head back to cybertron yes but I remember when I saw (i think it was) the first episode of beast Machines on the internet and megatron (as a head) clearly has control of cybertron and says that primal lost the beast wars.

Is this new continuity?

I am looking forward to beast machines, the images I've seen on line are amazing! I'm looking forward to a show with more deep emotion and less sillyness. I read that this show is darker and more serious which, in comparison to most transformers cartoons, is to me a breath of fresh air.

Well no beast machines till saturday.

No, it's the same continuity.

Remember how Megatron's strapped on the back of the shuttle, while the Maximals transwarp back to the future? If those chains would break, Megatron would be free, and would land earlier in the timesrteam, before the Maximals arrive on Cybertron. So, the planet's free for his conquest.

/Long

And as I recall, it was Rattrap who hatched the plan to return Dinobot II's memories? (some of them, least ways)

Although that didn't happen on screen ("Too dark" I think the official line is?) I think from his actions on the Nemesis, that Dinobot certainly wasn't a mere slave of Megatron any more.

Here are a couple of other Beast Wars video goodies to feast your eyes on. :)

Beast Wars II (Second) - "Get My Future"

01:02 --> BB! :D

Beast Wars II - "Super Voyager"

Beast Wars Movie (Lio Convoy's Crisis) opening scene

Theme song "Space Dreamer" at 03:06.

This movie was released in cinemas and also ties the Japanese and Canadian Beast Wars continuities together as

Optimus Primal appears in the movie. When Primal's was abducted by the Vok in Season 1 he was momentarily transported to the planet Gaea where he teams up with Lio Convoy and his pack before returning to the Vok construct on Earth).

Final fight scene from BW Movie (SPOILER!)

Beast Wars Neo opening - "Love Forever"

Beast Machines opening - "Phat Planet"

________

PS: Asthaloth: As I understand it Dinobot's original persona manifested itself in Dinobot II after the death of Rampage. With Rampage's dark influence removed Dinobot II began evolving to becoming more like the original. You'll notice that Dinobot II speaks with a more electronically digitised version of Dinobot's voice but after Rampage dies Dinobot II's voice is no longer electronically digitised and he sounds like the original Dinobot. It is after that moment that Dinobot II begins questioning everything around him as Dinobot is reborn within him - and yet again he dies a noble warrior's death!
