Combiner reduxes

Recommended Posts

You forget that there hasn't been a single decent Torso leader with limb team members combiners. Ever. (Devastator doesn't count due to A. being a six figure combiner and B. Ghey except if you have irrational nostalgia love for it, like myself.)

Predaking would like a word with you...

its a shame that they cant combine but I wont loose any sleep like some one else pointed out I'm also little fed up with the standard 5 man team 1 guy in the core 4 as the other bits. but I'm not saying I'm not in favor of 5 man teams I just want them to mix it up a bit when it comes to their combined form. I had a go at it myself *shamless plug* with Bruticus and predaking but nothing ground breaking. but from an engineering POV if they were voyager/deluxe sized they would need some sort of super structure inside like MP screamers die cast core only this core would have to extend down into the legs and who ever formed them and that would not be cheap... cool but not cheap

would like to see 2 bot combiner like gaogaigar bros., not super ghey energon/superlink, so you could mix and match between the 4 bots.

Yeah, but kitbashers don't have accountants or safety standards. :)

this is true, however, they don't have a billion dollar corporation backing them up either

Does anyone really know personalities for Razorclaw, Long Haul, Strafe, and Groove?

Not really. Even less can recall info from their tech specs.

I know them!! I especially like Groove, the pacifist of the Protectobots (not First Aid - for some odd reason the cartoon writers gave First Aid Groove's personality - grrr) but my favourite Protectobot of all would have to be Blades - complete opposite of Groove and quite unusual for an Autobot - also unique because he thoroughly enjoys fighting but doesn't have any anger/rage issues. He just likes fighting (action junkie would be a more accurate description).

Silverbolt was a bit more significant a character than Landmine.

But sorry you don't like him.

Actually, I much prefer Landmine over Silverbolt. Of course, Landmine (and Cloudburst) win big brownie points for nearly getting laid by HOT giant Amazonian women. ;)

But I agree with you - you can't blame Universe Silverbolt for looking too much like G1 Silverbolt when the intention of the design is to pay homage to the character, regardless of whether you think the character is good or bad.

I.S.T.: you may hate the G1 Silverbolt toy/character and think that he doesn't deserve a Universe upgrade, that's your opinion - but considering that they have set out to 'upgrade' the G1 toy/character as a Classics/Universe figure, in the context of what HasTak have set to achieve here, then I think that they've appeared to have done a good job (I like the pics but have yet to see the toy IRL).

They could make a really awesome Classics Wheelie figure - and if it looked good, I must say that I would buy it and I would probably even like the toy. It won't ever change the fact that I despise the G1 character with a passion, but I can appreciate a well crafted toy for its own individual merit.

I second what others have said about Razorclaw, J-Five (Railspike), Cicadacon and Prowl (BW) as cool torso-formers.

Also:

+ Leozak

+ Jalgar

+ Wing*

+ Waver*

+ Slog/Kakuryuu**

+ Birdbrain/Rairyuu**

+ Build Boy/Wedge

*for what they are as multiformers, they're pretty good - no better or worse than the limbformers of that set IMO

**not the most fantastic of TFs but again, not really much better or worse than the limbs of the same set (they're all pretty crappy - but equally crappy! :P) - I suppose you could submit a similar argument for the Micromaster gestalts

I'm just very disappointed that they can't make good, big, articulated combiners. If they can make MPs the way they do, why not combiners? Bandai has been making combiners in their Soul of Chogokin line for years, I don't see how TomTak can't do it. Sure it will have a higher price point, but what collector wouldn't pay a higher price for a piece of well-engineered toy?

Ok, now that I got that out of my system. I have the say that both onslaught and Silverbolt looks great on their own, maybe silverbolt's head needs a little more detail. I would consider a purchase of these guys.

Yeah but Classics/Universe isn't specially aimed at just collectors - it's aimed at the general market (re: kids). Sure, collectors are definitely considered in this line as they are nice tributes to G1 - but it is still a kid-focused line - similar to the way Robot Masters was marketed too. RM also clearly had collectors in mind but was still primarily targeted at kids (you only need to watch the OVA DVDs to see that).

MPs on the other hand are targeted directly and exclusively at collectors. Like Takara's G1 reissues, Binaltechs, BTAs, KISS Play and other such collector exclusive lines, the packaging states "For Ages 15 and Up" which means that they are intentionally excluding children and exclusively targeting adults. They're also produced in more limited numbers and charged at relatively more expensive price points too.

This is not the focus that Hasbro are going for with Classics/Universe... in fact, Hasbro have never exclusively marketed anything at adult collectors. Their reissues, Alternators etc are all for ages 5 or 8 and up - in other words, they're inclusive of children - this is part of the reason why Takara TOMY has an image/reputation of being more collector/adult oriented than Hasbro amongst a notable number of fans.

Yeah... how many kitbashers use lead based paint that chips of and poisons their kids.

And how many kitbashers let their kids (if they have any) play with their completed figures... that might not meet the safety standards? ;)

which a bigger r&d budget would help.

:tldr

none of this is going to make it happen
