Combiner reduxes

Recommended Posts

I'll wait until next year... at BotCon they said that they *might* do combiners for the 25th anniversary, and if they do they'll be all unique molds w/ no repaints.

Anyway, I think it's great that they're making guys like Onslaught and Silverbolt. And I'll be honest, I think it's great that they're standalone figures because they're not hampered by the dual transformation thingy. Both of them look awesome IMO. And honestly I don't think combining is that important, and I don't think it would be practical at that size either. I don't want to think of the deluxes that would have to support the weight of three other robots. They'd look like bricky ass. I'd much rather see deluxes that look like Classics Mirage (who would be crushed under the weight of any larger figure, or even one of the same size).

That'll be neat. I'm wondering what else they'll have in store for the 25th anniversary.

Anyways, I don't see how much strain it would put on the plastic. Their pretty light. It's not like taking a figure like Primus, Unicron, E. Omega Supreme and having him stand on two deluxes. You're asking for two deluxes to hold up at most an Ultra (which isn't much bigger or heavier than a Voyager), in addition to two more deluxes for the arms.

However, if they do the Predacons, they must all be Voyager size for the following reasons:

Predacons/Predaking kick ass

All the original Predacons were the same size and they pulled it off w/o the whole "team leader is the biggest and the grunts are all the same size" routine

They all have swords and I'm a sucker for swords.

Also, my thoughts on peoples comments on the Energon combiners:

They were done. Not to the best of their ability, but decent. It would have been better w/o the repaints of the same mold so you have a 2-2-1 set up for them insted of 5 individiual molds. And the only other real problem was elbow articulation, or lack thereof. You could sort of pull it off with the tank figure on Bruticus Maximus, but otherwise not.

But combiners in the style of the RiD Team Bullet Train or possibly even Landfill weren't bad (although Landfill's articulation sucks due to Wedge pretty much blocking hip articulation forward).

As for Universe Silverbolt... :clap I love flying Autobots. There's too many ground based ones and not enough flyers to match the flying Decepticon forces. Plus it'll be another flyer to hang in my display (yes, I've hung all my flight capable Transformers with the exception of some Megatron/Galvatron figures who have their own shelf).

I hope they don't do combiners for the 25th Ann. line.

"Hey, you know that Ultra Onslaught and Ultra Silverbolt you bought? Well never mind. Here's a new set of combing Combaticons and Aerialbots!"

In terms of Hasbro marketing/sales... I think it would be in their best interest to try something like this. If they're combiners then people are likely to spend a lot more money since they'd want each figure to complete the set and for the combiner. Where as when they release individual characters at what seems like random, without the ability to combine some people will pick and choose.

You guys have to admit if they did do this you'd buy them all to cmbine them... which is exactly what Hasbro would want... you to spend as much money as possible.

True enough on all counts.

I doubt that they would make either the Aerialbots or the Combaticons as a combiner team for the 25th anniversary. Two reasons: 1) The existence of Universe Silverbolt and Onslaught, and 2) the Energon combiners, which included the Aerialbots and the Combaticons.

That leaves the Stunticons, the Protectobots, the Predacons, the Terrorcons, the Technobots, or the Seacons. Unless they do Devastator... again.

edit: and they're re-releasing the original Seacon molds, so I doubt it would be them either.

Seriously...Seacons? Why Seacons? I still don't understand.

They were cool at the time...

at least that was my thought as the show was being cancelled and I was all :tfsad about it and looking for something to hold onto

but Powermaster Prime gave me my groove back

snaptrap and the seacons were awesome... hot pink and allspark blue before it was allspark blue... what's not to love

I disagree.

"Wanting" and "actually getting" are two different things. Let's not forget the majority of Hasbro's money comes from kids and a kid can want until he's blue in the face, it doesn't mean he'll get the whole combiner team. I know I never had a complete gestalt as a kid. I had plenty of individual gestalt members, but I had to make up reasons why Swindle was combining with the Technobots and Silverbolt.

Dude, I don't even have a complete set of the Energon Combiners, and I was an adult with disposable income when they came out. Since they all combined anyway, I picked up my favorite torso and my four favorite limb molds and called it a day.

I probably won't pick up another complete combiner team again without a major reinvention of the concept.

Thing is, the 25th Ann. line is really a collector-oriented line.
