Target and TRU banning "What's in the back?"

Recommended Posts

In any case, there's no pegwarming around these parts. In fact, many people think most toys have never existed. Good move on their part.

Yeah.... we wouldn't want you risking that professional career of yours over a Nightwatch Prime. :roll

More ridicule and sarcasm. BIG suprise there. :slap

And I would'nt call living in your mom's basement and collecting toys a 'proffesional career'.

Get a life Hardhead and stop pestering people.

Come on, fellows. This is getting a little bit silly now. :redface

seriously. shut up. not that big a deal.

store employees have more to do than grab a specific figure for you because you missed it. the employee has no obligation to be your personal shopper. check other stores in one doesn't have what you want, or buy it online.

and, FWIW, when I worked for target, those price scanners would give false info all the time. they would show price cut items at full price, and items that had moved off of TPC (temp. price cut) as still being the lower price. we had numerous cases of "ghost locations" when the Sigma 6 figures came out. we put out both cases we had, and the computer still showed 1 in backroom. Blot happens.

this damn discussion is turning into an idealogically fulled, non-sensical debate.

the way it works is, target employees (can't speak for wal mart and tru, never worked there.) can not check back room stock for a specific item from a case assortment. If a case has 3 barricades, 4 arcees, and only one dropkick (fictional scenario, real numbers may differ.), and there are two cases from that wave on the shelf, but both dropkicks are gone, then you're out of luck. if there are plenty of figures on the shelf, but you want the one thats not there, come back later.

if the shelf is empty, and they have more in the back, give it a minute. they do what's called "research" at least a few times a day (every couple of hours at my old store.) if they have any to put out, they will. if not, they will put a little grey dot sticker on the peg tag or shelf tag. that means they have more on order, and are waiting for a truck to bring it to them.

I used to have to battle these star wars guys almost every day. and, it only got worse when the galactic hunt gold coin figures came out.

our shelves were overflowing with SW figures, and these jerks wanted me to spend god knows how long digging through the cases we had in the back to look for any gold coin figures. and the hot wheels guys are ten times worse. we actually had to call the cops on one guy.

don't be those people! if an employee tells you he can't check the back, HE CAN'T CHECK THE BACK!!!!! just believe him, and go home and whine about it on teh interwebs.

It pisses me off to no end when people assume that we retail employees just stand around and wait to help people. we have other duties we have to attend to. and my store was incredibly Outback about us taking our breaks and lunches on time. I actually got a write-up for taking my lunch an hour late, because some old lady insisted that she wanted a copy of super amrio sunshine for the x-box.

just move on and stfu.

That must have been some pretty strong tape, to stop you.Hopefully HTS will continue to cater to fans (though it is nicer to find toys in brick & mortar stores).
He should have used his knife on the tape... :tflaugh
Use the knife from Target to cut the tape at TRU! :mwahaha
Beat me to the punch by 5 pages. Curses!

So says the person who works in retail, and wouldn't HAVE a job in the first place if it wasn't for customers.

Look, why is it hard to understand that you work in a service industry that is consumer based? I understand that you may think people regard you as servants or something, but the fact remains that in almost every industry, someone always answers to someone.

For example, I am a commercial insurance broker for large, multimillion dollar companies. I have a staff who answers to me. I have a manager that I answer to, and I have clients that I have to answer to as well.

Yes, there are problem clients / customers / people in this world. But the sooner that you realize that customers pay your salary, not your company... the better off you will be.

A common misconception is that "the world answers to me".

Reality check, folks...

It's not an issue of "who answers to who". It's an issue of two parties mutually agreeing on an exchange. And, in this case, one of the parties (the seller) no longer chooses to provide the other party (the buyer) a particular service.

Yeah, an angry customer, scalper or otherwise, can argue about "the customer always being right". They can even to take their business elsewhere. But evidently the stores implementing these policies just don't feel keeping such business warrants the cost. The reality is that it's give and take. And the employee's boss is not the customer.

And I just don't see Target going outta business anytime soon because some upset toy collectors decided to stop shopping there. :lol Few buyers would be that disaffected by such a policy, as scalpers would suffer the most. Let the scalpers complain all they want. Their bargaining posture is highly dubious. After Target, TRU, and WalMart, where else they gonna go?

I wouldn't bother answering crazy fans/scalpers. Wait in line like the rest of us if the stuff is not out. Or better, get a life.

exactly. it's toys we're talking about here. not food, or anything vital to survival. the sales breakdowns we had at target put toys way behind things like consumer electronics, domestic goods, and food.(we were a super target.) so target isn't going to take a financial hit from some guy who wants to cherrypick cases not getting his way. this policy is designed to help the employee. and, wtihout them, whose gonna run the store?

I had an incident a few nights ago at my new job where some lady tried to swap price stickers on some xbox games to get them cheaper. I caught her, and she asked to speak with my manager. she started spouting some nonsense about "the customer is always right." he told he that's not the case anymore. he trusts his workers more than the people who shop here. reason being, we've never tried to steal from him. we're a small business, and very tight knit. he says he has to be able to trust us to do whats right, and that means believing us first.

Oh, and FWIW, the company does pay our salary. my bosses signature is on my paycheck. and I get paid regardless of the days sales. and if someone comes into my store and gets huffy about us not checking the back, I tell them to leave. it's happened before, and our sales didn't suffer.

and neither will target or tru's. because not enough people even care about this. it's a non issue.

Not only do you have an awesome boss for standing behind you in that situation... what that lady did was commit an attempted retail theft.

:alert He should have had her arrested :alert

This, on the other hand I would have to disagree with you on. Your boss might be the one who actually signs your paycheck, but where do you think the revenues come from that fund it?

Sales, my friend. :)

And where do sales come from?

Customers! :wave

I'd bet if you asked your boss this very same question, he would agree with my statements. Believe me, if your boss's business started some huge, "anti-customer service" policies that pushed away droves of his customers, the sales would drop and your job would be in jeopardy.

But what do I know... since I apparently have no life, live in my parent's basement and have OCD about collecting toys - and always stomp my feet until I get my way when I don't. :roll
