Target and TRU banning "What's in the back?"

I saw a skid of Energon combiners on a Walmart floor still boxed after midnight of the release date. (I was there that late for other reasons, and this was a bonus). I peeked inside, and an employee ran over real gruff like and yelled "SHOP THE SHELVES NOT THE PALLETS!". I walked away, rather startled. I found a different employee and showed her that the "don't open before" date was past, and asked if I could browse what was inside. She opened it for me, no problem. Maybe that guy thought I was a scalper (?), but there were over a hundred toys on that pallet, so I'm not sure what his problem was.

It was probably Czarcher, just doing it to try and maintain his rather weak points...

... well I thought it was funny.

Edit: Anyway, I went to TRU today, and they are definitely just doing an inventory. The tape that was up there is cut now, and they brought out a ton of old... Cybertron and Titaniums? Yeah, I'm sure these few figures were kicking around in back for a while now.

Anyway, they didn't have a single Transformer that actually transformed, unless you count stupid Real Gear guys. I hope TRU gets the Allspark stuff soon, what the heck is going on with this? In about 9 major retail stores I have checked, I have only seen NW Prime from the Allspark line.

I think most if not all my point have been validated by multiple board members in this thread.

+Plus I don't work at Wallmart.

I was gonna see about buying some stuff from you in the end cap,but you just convinced me to look elsewhere. It's too bad,I was trying to like you Trainwreck. I guess you just can't judge someone by their avatar.

People can differing opinions & still do business. HOW BORING would life be if we all agreed with each other? And what would the internet be without people taking the mickey out of each other? Don't take things so personally dude!

Sane?!?!?!?!?!?!

But boring, yes. When it comes to the internets, asshattery is the staff of life.

There's a couple differences between the stocker opening a case off the pallets for a customer and the customer doing it themselves: authorization and insurance.

Oh lighten up a bit. It was obviously a joke, that's why I put that second part on there. It's not like I've personally attacked anyone in this thread at all.

Were you really interested in anything I had, or just saying that to make me feel bad?

And for the record, my Avatar is awesome! Mustangs and Wheeljack, got to be my favorite piece in my collection.

Back on topic, it seems there is a very differing opinion on this matter between people that have worked retail, and those who have not. I work an office job, and have never worked retail REALLY (I worked at a baseball park as an usher and would OCCASIONALLY help with the retail guys). But I also think a lot of this factors to people talking about several different things.

This thread really started out with me wondering what this was all about, not whether it was right or wrong to ask to look in the back. As many of us "Cherry Pickers" have confirmed, we've never asked to see new product unless there was clearly black space on the shelves.

Thus never risking the job of the employee helping us. I've also always denied to give an answer to anyone that asked if I am looking for a specific figure. That defeats some of the fun of it for me, I like to just see what will happen with one or two new cases (whatever it takes to fill the blank space on the shelves).

So in all aspects, I have always been extremely respectful to retail staff (unless I catch them lying to me, and giving another customer service I was not given). Even in those cases, I don't cuss anyone out or get violent, I only question the logic of this unbalanced treatment.

Many times when I go "hunting" I will wear one of my many Transformers shirts and tell them I'm a collector looking for specific pieces for my collection, and that I do not intend on buying multiples of the same figure. In MANY cases, I've found out the guy working the toy aisle is also a collector, and we have some nice G1, Movie, and Animated conversations. This, again, goes back to the respect thing.

But to make a blanket statement calling those of us who would like to see backstock rude, scalpers, or any other name is not really called for (this isn't directed at you Czarcher).

I think we need to respect what the retail guys go through, as I disagree that it is a laid back job. I know it sucks, because I see the crazy people that shop at Toys R Us...

well put. this turned into a really ugly ideology fueled debate rather quickly, and I myself was no exception.

what needs to be stated is that, in regards to target's policy, they can not search the back for specific items, or figures. for instance, asking them to find chaser figures out of a case assortment when the shelves have plenty of merch is a no-no.

however, it should also be kept in mind that not all employees at target are allowed to go into the back room to pull product. the carts are filled for them by backroom guys, and they take them out and stock them. at least in my experience. I worked lees that 18 hours a week when I was there. thats why I quit.

Guh. Reminds me of some douchebag I knew a while back. He was a smart-ass spoiled brat who had money to blow so his Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh! decks were always pimped out and unbeatable. And he contributed it all to his "skill."

He once bragged he went to a local YGO! tournament held by the town card shop; before the tournament even began, he convinced the store owner to sell him all the boxes of the new booster packs--which were supposed to be the prizes. Tournament was cancelled, everyone went home pissed except him.

There's a douche like that in every town... sometimes more. Sounds like he would win awards for his douche-baggery though. Someone should snatch those stupid cards out of his hand and set them on fire...
