Target and TRU banning "What's in the back?"

Recommended Posts

I always figured there's one toy geek working in every store that tells everyone else "don't put out the new stuff until I rifle through it and get what I want..." like when each case only comes with one particular figure or variation or something. That probably just my conspiracy mind at work though.

Yep! That's my brother & fiends! Yeah, I mean't fiends, not friends!

I'm just pointing out the difference between "sales pay everyone's salaries" (a practical issue) and "who the employee's boss is" (a contractual issue). The principle of the customer being right is of the former. It doesn't elevate the burdensome customer to being anyone's boss, especially if said customer's business is the sort that isn't all that welcome. For most customers, the business relationship is important, yes.

so target isn't going to take a financial hit from some guy who wants to cherrypick cases not getting his way. this policy is designed to help the employee. and, wtihout them, whose gonna run the store?

Well, I guess the scalpers will run the shelves and endcaps for a handful of the toy section. Though somehow I don't think they'll be providing any better service to the other customers. :tfevil

ok i worked at tru while going to college

so dont give me bs on how hard you guys have it working there or target

working for a retail store is the most laid back job ever

employees are there to stock and help customers(im sure most if not all retail store has that mission statement)

if its not on the floor and you have it in the back you better go get it, i know i did

of course im not talking about specifics here i mean if the hot wheels(for example) pegs are empty

ill bring out that box (if we have it) but if its overflowing ill probably wont get it

and thats all im asking of employees if the pegs are empty and someone wants to buy it get it for them

btw if a store gets enough complaints even if its from the same person that store is in jeopardy of being fined and maybe closed down.....ive seen it happend

laid back hardly describes it. the christmas season alone made me want to kill people.

and your average employee cant just go in the back and pull stuff. I got a write up when I worked at target for doing because I wasn't "certified."

and like I've been saying, if the pegs are empty, and there is more in the back, they will put it out. if the shelves are full, and you want them to open a case so you can get a specific figure, they will say no.

nobody seems to understand this.

christmas IS a killer but i enjoyed working there coworkers was cool management was cool hardly any complaints from me so you just have to love the job to concider work AS work

so to my perspective it was all fun no work even reseting an aisle to put new merch i enjoyed doing lol

I agree. my time at target was awful, but my job now, in specialty retail, is great. awesome perks, great people. only a handful of dipBlot customers. and most of those guys want to haggle prices, which we cant change.

other than that, I love it.

retail is really love hate.

To prove a majority of you guys wrong.

I went to a Target today. 4 pegs of deluxes (out of 8) were completely empty, and the 5th was almost done. I asked if the guy could bring more product out. He asked what figure I was looking for, I told him "It's alright, just bring out enough to put on these pegs, and I'll see if I get lucky." Well, he brought out one case, and it didn't have anything I wanted in it. He asked "do you have all these?" I did, but I lied to him and said "nope, I see some stuff I want."

I put everything back on the shelves and left empty-handed. I hope some of the kids that were in the isle at the time got one of the 3 '08 bees I left them.

He did mention "I can't pull more than a couple boxes, since they are collector's items." It's funny that his co-worker interjected AS I was asking to get more product initially "If we have anything at all, it is out here. We don't keep anything in back." I saw the scanner when the guy scanned the peg. There were 6 unopened cases and several loose figures in back.

So yeah. If employees are going to lie to me, I don't have a lot of respect for them. If he would just tell me he can't bring out more, like the other Target did, I'm down with that. Luckily his co-worker was SUPER helpful, and I was extremely nice to him the entire time in return. He brought out enough to stock the shelf, and I didn't ask for more because I'm not an Afterburner.

That must have been some pretty strong tape, to stop you.

Hopefully HTS will continue to cater to fans (though it is nicer to find toys in brick & mortar stores).

says the college student who doesnt have to support anyone but himself

the money you pay to ship something is way less than the gas spent on multiple toy hunts. I completely gave it up. Now if I am out (like on tuesday I may be at target to get a new cd) then I look, but otherwise I never go out just for toy shopping since I have the interwebs

Also MUCH more environmentally friendly.

Customer service is important. Doing whatever it takes to satisfy the customer WITHIN REASON is important. And there is the key phrase... WITHIN REASON. If the customer is screaming in your face and forcing his way to the stockroom, that's beyond reason at which point a manager should be involved and booting that dork on his backend.

I agree, I used to work retail way back in college and just because someone is a customer at your store does not mean they can order you around for any reason. The customer is key, yes but servicing a select group may cause the other customer base to leave if the service they were waiting on was in the back searching for a single toy.

It's cool if the store allows it's staff to search the back but I think it should be on a store by store basis. If a store feels that the time for an employee to search for an item is a waste of their time which could be spent on other things then they should be able to do that. On the other hand, if there's a lull in store traffic and they have plenty of time, then the store should should be able to let an associate look in the back.

People need to chill with the I NEED IT NOW mentality, which causes shortages and high prices on the secondary market. I'm glad I didn't go on eBay when the 25th anniv. Joe Firefly and Beach Head figures first came out and paid 2-3x their retail, after a couple of months these figures were all over store shelves. Luckily I came to my senses that these were just toys and had no need to go into a big huff about them.

that proves nothing. you just found someone willing to break the rules. this is an exception. there are signs all over the three targets I shop at that state that they can not search for specific figures out of a case assortment. if the shelf is empty, and htey have more in the back, then they will put them out. if the shelf is full, but you want a specific figure, they will not help you. and expecting to do such is asking them to risk their job.

:pfx Well Said ,Good Point ,Bravo ~!

I saw a skid of Energon combiners on a Walmart floor still boxed after midnight of the release date. (I was there that late for other reasons, and this was a bonus). I peeked inside, and an employee ran over real gruff like and yelled "SHOP THE SHELVES NOT THE PALLETS!". I walked away, rather startled. I found a different employee and showed her that the "don't open before" date was past, and asked if I could browse what was inside. She opened it for me, no problem. Maybe that guy thought I was a scalper (?), but there were over a hundred toys on that pallet, so I'm not sure what his problem was.
