Target and TRU banning "What's in the back?"

Recommended Posts

I do have to say that I chuckled to myself a little this afternoon, when I asked the Target employee to pull a Nightwatch Prime out from the back stock room. He looks really nice with the rest of my collection!

Wow ! I found 2 Nightwatch Primes on the SHELF at my store today. I bought one and left the other one for whom ever was lucky enough to come along and find it. And I did'nt even have to bug anyone to get it. HA!

seriously. shut up. not that big a deal.

store employees have more to do than grab a specific figure for you because you missed it. the employee has no obligation to be your personal shopper. check other stores in one doesn't have what you want, or buy it online.

and, FWIW, when I worked for target, those price scanners would give false info all the time. they would show price cut items at full price, and items that had moved off of TPC (temp. price cut) as still being the lower price. we had numerous cases of "ghost locations" when the Sigma 6 figures came out. we put out both cases we had, and the computer still showed 1 in backroom. Blot happens.

this damn discussion is turning into an idealogically fulled, non-sensical debate.

the way it works is, target employees (can't speak for wal mart and tru, never worked there.) can not check back room stock for a specific item from a case assortment. If a case has 3 barricades, 4 arcees, and only one dropkick (fictional scenario, real numbers may differ.), and there are two cases from that wave on the shelf, but both dropkicks are gone, then you're out of luck. if there are plenty of figures on the shelf, but you want the one thats not there, come back later.

if the shelf is empty, and they have more in the back, give it a minute. they do what's called "research" at least a few times a day (every couple of hours at my old store.) if they have any to put out, they will. if not, they will put a little grey dot sticker on the peg tag or shelf tag. that means they have more on order, and are waiting for a truck to bring it to them.

I used to have to battle these star wars guys almost every day. and, it only got worse when the galactic hunt gold coin figures came out.

our shelves were overflowing with SW figures, and these jerks wanted me to spend god knows how long digging through the cases we had in the back to look for any gold coin figures. and the hot wheels guys are ten times worse. we actually had to call the cops on one guy.

don't be those people! if an employee tells you he can't check the back, HE CAN'T CHECK THE BACK!!!!! just believe him, and go home and whine about it on teh interwebs.

It pisses me off to no end when people assume that we retail employees just stand around and wait to help people. we have other duties we have to attend to. and my store was incredibly Outback about us taking our breaks and lunches on time. I actually got a write-up for taking my lunch an hour late, because some old lady insisted that she wanted a copy of super amrio sunshine for the x-box.

just move on and stfu.

Cause if you was youd know what a ghost loc. was and youd also know that if its still showed in the backroom SOMEONE didnt zero it out when they pulled those 2 cases.

Sorry as a Target team member i cant sit here and read that part :tdown

No, I wasn't certified for back room. I was just seasonal that got to stick around for another 6 months after the rush. I just went with what my GSTL told me.

but, that does bring up another issue with the price scanners. they can be wrong.

and god knows some of the guys we had on flow team back then were complete idiots.

This, on the other hand I would have to disagree with you on. Your boss might be the one who actually signs your paycheck, but where do you think the revenues come from that fund it?

Sales, my friend.

And where do sales come from?

Customers!

I'd bet if you asked your boss this very same question, he would agree with my statements. Believe me, if your boss's business started some huge, "anti-customer service" policies that pushed away droves of his customers, the sales would drop and your job would be in jeopardy.

well, not checking the backroom when there is plenty of merch on the shelf isn't "anti customer service." we only have the resposibility to provide a basic customer service. helping you locate items, and answering questions regarding the sales floor. everything else is handled up at the desk labled, conveniently, "customer/ guest service." this where you go to have a succession of people tell you exactly the same thing.

the retail relationship is symbiotic. we need customers to buy our stuff, and they need us to provide them with said stuff.

Not only do you have an awesome boss for standing behind you in that situation... what that lady did was commit an attempted retail theft.

He should have had her arrested

yep. he is great. and any good boss will stand behind his employees.

But what do I know... since I apparently have no life, live in my parent's basement and have OCD about collecting toys - and always stomp my feet until I get my way when I don't.

you said it, not me.

but yes, what do you know? you are on the customer end. in my experience, the average customer treats people in the service/retail industry as trash barely worthy of their contempt. and we just have to smile and refer them to guest service.

in a perfect world, I'd get to punch one of those hot wheels guys with no reprecussions... in a perfect world.

You just gotta find Scott at TRU, he'll get you the figures from the back.

You just gotta find Scott at TRU, he'll get you the figures from the back.

there's almost always at least one guy at TRU who will. they seem to be lenient. Target however, will reprimand employee's for breaking store policy.

All this talk about scalper reminds me of this video

where the woman buys the front spot in line for some absurd amount of money to buy all the iPhones in the store... only to get into the store and find out it's one per customer.

Insta-Karma at its finest. Wish that happened more with scalpers

Guh. Reminds me of some douchebag I knew a while back. He was a smart-ass spoiled brat who had money to blow so his Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh! decks were always pimped out and unbeatable. And he contributed it all to his "skill."

He once bragged he went to a local YGO! tournament held by the town card shop; before the tournament even began, he convinced the store owner to sell him all the boxes of the new booster packs--which were supposed to be the prizes. Tournament was cancelled, everyone went home pissed except him.

ok i worked at tru while going to college

so dont give me bs on how hard you guys have it working there or target

working for a retail store is the most laid back job ever

employees are there to stock and help customers(im sure most if not all retail store has that mission statement)

if its not on the floor and you have it in the back you better go get it, i know i did

of course im not talking about specifics here i mean if the hot wheels(for example) pegs are empty

ill bring out that box (if we have it) but if its overflowing ill probably wont get it

and thats all im asking of employees if the pegs are empty and someone wants to buy it get it for them

btw if a store gets enough complaints even if its from the same person that store is in jeopardy of being fined and maybe closed down.....ive seen it happend

I have never had any incidents along the lines stated happen to me. I'm constantly asked when I go into the stores (which is only like one to two times a week, but thankfully my family gets a lot of different stuff at Target and Wal-Mart). I usually say no figuring it's going to be a hit or miss with the figure. If it's not there, if there's an associate nearby I ask if there's any. If not, I just head out. Plus, there's a way to know if they have any in back by putting in the DCPI code in their little price check things. Just get the code number from a source that has it, take it to the store and put it into the price check thing. It's how I've been checking when I'm in the area for any Wiis.

laid back hardly describes it. the christmas season alone made me want to kill people.

and your average employee cant just go in the back and pull stuff. I got a write up when I worked at target for doing because I wasn't "certified."

and like I've been saying, if the pegs are empty, and there is more in the back, they will put it out. if the shelves are full, and you want them to open a case so you can get a specific figure, they will say no.

nobody seems to understand this.
